Maintain proper air pressure in your tires.Tests have shown decreased fuel economywith improperly inflated tires.

Drive at a constant speed whenever possible.
See a trained and qualified Volvo servicetechnician as soon as possible for inspectionif the check engine (malfunction indicator)light illuminates, or stays on after the vehiclehas started.
Properly dispose of any vehicle-related wastesuch as used motor oil, used batteries, brakepads, etc.
When cleaning your vehicle, please use gen-uine Volvo car care products. All Volvo carcare products are formulated to be environ-mentally friendly.
Twin Engine vehicles
If possible, precondition the vehicle with thecharging cable before driving.
If preconditioning is not possible in coldweather, use the seat and steering wheelheating primarily. Avoid heating the entirepassenger compartment, which reduces thehybrid battery's charge level.
Choose the Pure drive mode to help mini-mize electric power consumption.
In hilly terrain, put the gear selector in modeB to utilize the electric motor's braking func-tion when the accelerator pedal is released.This helps charge the hybrid battery.

IntelliSafe - driver support
IntelliSafe is Volvo Cars' philosophy regardingvehicle safety. IntelliSafe consists of a number ofsystems, both standard and optional, that aredesigned to help make driving safer, preventaccidents and protect passengers and otherroad users.
Support
IntelliSafe includes driver support functions suchas Adaptive cruise control* which helps the driverto maintain an even speed combined with a pre-selected time interval to the vehicle ahead.
Pilot Assist2 helps the driver keep the vehicle inthe current traffic lane by providing steeringassistance and maintaining an even speed and aset time interval to the vehicle ahead.
Park Assist Pilot* helps the driver pull into andout of parking spaces.
Other examples of systems that can help thedriver are the Active main beam, Cross TrafficAlert (CTA)* and Blind Spot Information (BLIS)*systems.
Prevention

Dynamic symbol in basic mode.
In the center of the instrument panel is a dynamicsymbol that changes appearance according tothe type of message displayed. The severity ofthe control or warning symbol is indicated by anamber or red marking around the symbol. An ani-mation may be used to change the symbol into alarger image in order to graphically depict thelocation of a problem or to clarify information.

Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge in the instrument panel showsthe fuel level in the tank.
The beige area in the fuel gauge indicates theamount of fuel left in the tank.
When the fuel level is low and it is time to refuel,the fuel pump symbol will illuminate with anamber-colored light. The trip computer also indi-cates the approximate distance driven on the fuelremaining in the tank.

Hybrid gauge
In Hybrid and Pure drive modes, the instrumentpanel will display a hybrid gauge, which can helpthe driver achieve optimal driving economy.
The hybrid gauge shows the ratio between theelectric motor's current power consumption andthe remaining available power. This information isshown in various ways.
Symbols in the hybrid gauge
Indicates the current available powerfrom the electric motor. A solid symbolindicates that the electric motor isbeing used.
A hollow symbol indicates that theelectric motor is not being used.
Indicates the power level when theinternal combustion engine starts. Asolid symbol indicates that the internalcombustion engine is being used.
Indicates the power level when theinternal combustion engine will start. Ahollow symbol indicates that the inter-nal combustion engine is not beingused.
Indicates that the hybrid battery isbeing charged, e.g. by lightly pressingthe brake pedal.
Driver-requested power
The hybrid gauge displays the amount of powerrequested (utilized) by the driver through pres-sure on the accelerator pedal. The higher thereading on the scale, the more power utilized inthe current gear. The mark between the lightningsymbol and the drop symbol indicates the pointat which the combustion engine will start.

The symbol in the hybrid battery gauge indi-cates that the Hold function is activated. The
symbol indicates that the Charge functionis activated.

Trip computer
The vehicle's trip computer registers data whiledriving such as mileage, fuel consumption andaverage speed.
To help promote fuel-efficient driving, data isrecorded on both current and average fuel con-sumption. Data from the trip computer can bedisplayed in the instrument panel.

The trip computer includes the following gauges:
Trip odometer
Odometer
Current fuel consumption
Distance to empty tank
Distance to discharged battery
Tourist - alternative speedometer
Unit standards for distance, speed, etc. can bechanged via system settings in the center display.
Trip odometer
There are two trip odometers: TM and TA.
TM can be reset manually and TA is reset auto-matically if the vehicle is not used for four hours.
During a drive, the trip odometer registers dataon:
Mileage
Driving time
Average speed
Average fuel consumption
The readings since the trip odometer's last resetare displayed.
Odometer
The odometer records the vehicle's total mileage.This reading cannot be reset.
Current fuel consumption
This gauge shows the vehicle's fuel consumptionat that moment. The reading is updated aboutonce a second.
Distance to empty tank
The trip computer calculates the distance thatcan be driven on the fuel remaining in the tank.

This calculation is based on average fuel con-sumption during the last 30 km (20 miles) andthe amount of fuel remaining in the tank.
When the gauge displays "----", there is notenough fuel remaining to calculate the remainingmileage. Refuel as soon as possible.
NOTE
This may vary if your driving style changes.
An economical driving style will generallyincrease how far you can drive on a certainamount of fuel.
Distance to discharged battery
The gauge shows the approximate dis-tance that can be driven with theremaining current in the hybrid battery.
When the gauge displays "----", there is littlecharge remaining in the battery and distancecannot be reliably calculated.
This calculation is based on average consump-tion with a normally loaded vehicle in normal driv-ing conditions, and takes into account whetherthe air conditioning is on or off. Changing drivemodes from Hybrid to Pure may increase thecalculated distance because Pure mode hasreduced climate control settings (ECO Climate).
NOTE
This may vary if your driving style changes.
An economical driving style will generallyincrease how far you can drive on a certainamount of fuel.
Starting values for fully charged hybrid
battery
Because it is difficult to predict driving style andother factors that affect the range of electricmotors, Volvo uses a starting value when thevehicle is fully charged. This starting value pro-vides an "up to" amount instead of a predictionon the range of the electric current in the motor.The difference in starting value between Hybridand Pure is because the vehicle is permitted touse more current from the hybrid battery in Puremode, and because the vehicle switches to ECOClimate.
Mileage when using electric motor
To achieve the longest possible mileage whenusing the electric motor, the driver of an electricvehicle also needs to think about conservingelectricity. The more electricity consumers(stereo, heated windows/mirrors/seats, very coldair from climate control system, etc.) that areactive, the shorter the potential mileage.
NOTE
In addition to high electrical consumption inthe passenger compartment, rapid accelera-tion, sudden braking, high speeds, heavyloads, low ambient temperatures and drivingup hills can reduce possible driving distance.
Tourist - alternative speedometer
The alternative digital speedometer makes it eas-ier to drive in countries where speed limit signsare shown in a different measurement unit thanthe one shown in the vehicle's gauges.
When used, the digital speed is displayed in theopposite unit to that shown in the analog speed-ometer. If mph is used in the analog speedome-ter, the equivalent speed in km/h will be shownin the digital speedometer.

Displaying trip data in theinstrument panel
Data recorded and calculated by the trip com-puter can be displayed on the instrument panel.
This data is stored in a trip computer app. Youcan choose which information the instrumentpanel will display in the app menu.
Open and navigate in the app menu2 using the right-hand steering wheel keypad.

(The App menu cannot be opened whilethere is an unacknowledged message in theinstrument panel. The message must be con-firmed before the App menu can be opened.)

Resetting the trip odometer
Resetting the trip odometer using the left-sidesteering wheel lever.
–Reset all information in trip odometer TM (i.e.mileage, average fuel consumption, averagespeed and driving time) by pressing andholding the RESET button on the left-handsteering wheel lever.
Tapping the RESET button only resets thedistance driven.
The TA trip odometer can not be manually reset.It resets automatically if the vehicle is not usedfor four hours or more.

Displaying trip statistics in thecenter display
Trip computer statistics can be displayed graphi-cally in the center display, providing an overviewthat facilitates more fuel-efficient driving.
Open the Driver performanceapp in the App view to displaytrip statistics.
Each bar in the graph repre-sents a driving distance of 1kilometers, 10 kilometers or100 kilometers (or miles). The bars are addedfrom the right as you drive. The bar at the far rightshows the data for the current trip.
Average fuel consumption and total driving timeare calculated from the most recent reset of thetrip statistics.
Fuel and electricity consumption are shown inseparate graphs. The electricity consumptionshows "net" consumption, i.e. consumed currentminus regenerated current generated by braking.

General information about TwinEngine
Twin Engine vehicles are driven just like anyother vehicle, but certain functions differ from avehicle powered exclusively by gasoline. Theelectric motor powers the vehicle primarily at lowspeeds; the gasoline engine is used at higherspeeds or during more active driving.
The instrument panel displays Twin Engine-spe-cific information - charging information, selecteddrive mode, distance to discharged battery andhybrid battery charge level.
Different drive modes can be selected while driv-ing, e.g. electric power only or, if more power isneeded, a combination of electric and gasolinepower. The vehicle calculates the optimal combi-nation of driveability, driving experience, environ-mental impact and fuel economy for the selecteddrive mode.
In order to function optimally, the hybrid battery(and its electrical drive systems) and the gasolineengine (and its drive systems) must be at thecorrect operating temperature. Battery capacitycan be considerably reduced if the battery is toocold or too hot. Preconditioning prepares thevehicle's drive systems and passenger compart-ment before driving to help reduce both wear andenergy consumption. It also helps increase thehybrid battery's range.
The hybrid battery which powers the electricmotor is recharged using the charging cable. It
can also be recharged during light braking andthrough engine braking in gear position B. Thecombustion engine can also help recharge thehybrid battery.
Important
No electrical current
Keep in mind that if there is no electrical currentto the vehicle, i.e. the ignition is switched off orthe start battery is discharged, certain functionssuch as brakes, power steering, etc. will not work.
WARNING
If the vehicle does not have electrical currentand both the electric motor and the gasolineengine are switched off, the brakes cannot beused to stop the vehicle.
Towing not permitted
Never tow a Twin Engine vehicle behind anothervehicle, as this could damage the electric motor.
Exterior engine noise
WARNING
Please be aware that there is no sound fromthe engine when the vehicle is being poweredby the electric motor and it may be difficult todetect by children, pedestrians, cyclists andanimals. This is especially true at low speeds.
High-voltage electrical current
WARNING
A number of electrical components in TwinEngine Plug-in Hybrid vehicles use high-volt-age current and can be extremely dangerousif handled incorrectly. These components andany orange wiring in the vehicle may only behandled by trained and qualified Volvo servicetechnicians.
Do not touch anything that is not clearly descri-bed in this Owner's Manual.

Available drive modes
WARNING
Keep in mind that the vehicle does not emitany engine noise when using the electricmotor and may therefore be difficult to detectfor children, pedestrians, cyclists or animals.This is particularly true at low speeds, e.g. inparking lots.
WARNING
Do not leave the vehicle in an unventilatedarea with a drive mode activated and the com-bustion engine switched off. The engine willstart automatically if the charge level in thehybrid battery is low and the resulting exhaustgases can be very harmful to people and ani-mals.
HYBRID
This is the default mode in which the electricmotor and combustion engine work together.
The vehicle starts in Hybrid mode. The controlsystem uses both the electric motor and the gas-oline engine - separately or in tandem - and cal-culates optimal utilization with regard to perform-ance, fuel consumption and comfort. At highspeeds, ground clearance is automatically low-
ered3 to reduce air resistance. Driving capacity onthe electric motor alone is determined by factors
such as the hybrid battery's charge level, theneed for heat/cooling in the passenger compart-ment, etc.
If there is sufficient charge in the battery, it ispossible to drive solely on electric power. Whenthe accelerator pedal is pressed, only the electricmotor will be activated until the battery reaches acertain charge level. Above this level, the currentin the battery cannot supply the power requestedby the accelerator pedal and the combustionengine will start.
When the hybrid battery's charge level is low, thecombustion engine will start more frequently tosave the remaining current in the battery. Chargethe hybrid battery from a 120-240 volt outletusing a charging cable, or activate Charge inFunction view to reset the option of only usingthe electric motor.
This drive mode is designed for low energy con-sumption with an optimized mix between theelectric motor and gasoline engine, without com-promising on climate comfort or driving experi-ence. When faster acceleration is requested bythe driver, the electric driveline will be utilized tohelp provide maximum additional power. Thevehicle also monitors the driving conditions andautomatically engages all-wheel drive if neces-sary. All-wheel drive and extra electric power arealways available regardless of the battery'scharging status.
Information in the instrument panel
When driving in Hybrid mode, a hybrid gauge willbe displayed in the instrument panel. The gaugewill indicate the amount of electrical currentrequired when the driver depresses the accelera-tor pedal. The marker between the lightning andthe drop shows how much current is available.
The instrument panel gauge when both the electricmotor and the combustion engine are being used.
The instrument panel also shows howmuch current is being restored to thebattery (regenerated) during light brak-ing.

PURE
Uses the electric motor only, with the lowestpossible energy consumption and carbondioxide emissions.
This drive mode maximizes the use of the hybrid
battery. Ground clearance is lowered3 to reduceair resistance and certain climate system func-tions are reduced to provide the longest possibledriving distance using only electricity.
Pure mode is available when the hybrid battery issufficiently charged. Even in Pure mode, the com-bustion engine will start if the charge level in thebattery gets too low. The combustion engine willalso start
if the vehicle's speed goes above 125 km/h(78 mph)
if the driver requests more power than theelectric motor can provide
if factors such as cold weather affect thesystem or components.
This drive mode is optimized for maximum drivingdistance with electric propulsion and is primarilyintended for use in city driving. Pure helps pro-vide the lowest possible consumption even whenthe hybrid battery is fully discharged. ECO climateis activated to control the climate in the passen-ger compartment, and in slippery road conditionsslightly more wheel spin may be permitted beforeall-wheel drive is automatically activated.
ECO Climate
In Pure mode, ECO climate is automatically acti-vated in the passenger compartment to helpreduce energy consumption.
NOTE
When the Pure drive mode is activated, set-tings for certain climate system and electricityconsuming functions are reduced. Some ofthese settings can be reset manually, but fullfunctionality will only be restored by leavingPure mode or adapting the Individual drivemode to full climate system functionality.
If condensation forms on the windows, tap themax defroster button, which will function normally.
OFF ROAD
Maximizes the vehicle's ability to traverse dif-ficult terrain or poor roads.
In this mode, ground clearance3 is high, steeringis light, and all-wheel drive and Hill DescentControl are activated.
This drive mode is only available at low speeds,up to 40 km/h (25 mph). If this speed is excee-ded, Off road mode will be cancelled and AWDmode will be activated instead.
All-wheel drive requires both the combustion andelectric motor to be in continuous operation,which results in higher fuel consumption.
In Off road mode, a compass will be displayedbetween the speedometer and the tachometer inthe instrument panel. The permissible speedrange will be shown in the speedometer.
