Installing a wheel Wheel changes must always be carried out correctly. The following instructions showhow to install a wheel and what is importantto keep in mind.
CAUTION
When not in use, the jack
* should be
kept in its storage compartment under the cargo compartment floor.
The jack provided with your vehicle isintended to be used only in temporarysituations such as changing wheels inthe event of a flat tire. Only the jackthat came with your particular modelshould be used to lift the vehicle. If thevehicle needs to be lifted more fre-quently or for a prolonged period, usinga garage jack or hoist is recommended.Always follow this device's instructionsfor use.
WARNING
Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in the Park (
P) position.
Block the wheels standing on theground, use rigid wooden blocks orlarge stones.
Check that the jack is not damaged,the threads are properly lubricated andit is free from dirt.
Be sure the jack is on a firm, level, non-slippery surface and that it is uprightand not leaning.
The jack must correctly engage in thejack attachment.
No objects should be placed betweenthe base of the jack and the ground, orbetween the jack and the attachmentbar on the vehicle.
Never let anyone remain in the vehiclewhen it is raised on a jack.
If a tire must be changed near passingtraffic, make sure all passengers moveto a safe location.
Use a jack intended for the vehiclewhen changing a tire. For any otherjob, use stands to support the vehicle.
Never crawl under or allow any part of your body to be extended under a vehi-cle supported by a jack.
The vehicle must be raised high enough sothat the wheel you are removing can turnfreely.
1. Clean the contact surfaces between the wheel and the wheel hub.
2. Lift the wheel into place. Tighten the wheel bolts securely.Do not grease the wheel bolt threads.
3. Lower the vehicle so that the wheel can- not rotate.

4. Tighten the wheel bolts in a crisscross pat-
tern (as shown in illustration). It is impor- tant that the wheel bolts are securelytightened. Tighten to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.).Use a torque wrench to check torque.
5. Press the plastic covers onto the wheelbolts.
6. Check the tire inflation pressure and store the new inflation pressure in the tire pres- sure monitoring system *.
WARNING
The wheel bolts may need to be tightened again several days after a wheel change.Temperature fluctuations and vibrationscan cause them to loosen slightly.
NOTE
After inflating a tire, always replace the valve cap to help prevent valve damagecaused by gravel, dirt, etc.
Use plastic valve caps only. Metal capscould corrode and become difficult toremove.

Spare wheel 13
The spare wheel is a Temporary Spare and can be used to temporarily replace a punc- tured tire on one of the vehicle's regularwheels.
The spare tire is only intended for temporary use. Replace it with a normal wheel as soon aspossible. The driving characteristics of the vehicle change and ground clearance reduces whenthe spare wheel is used. Do not wash the vehi-cle in an automatic car wash while using theTemporary Spare. The recommended tire pressure must be maintained regardless of at which position thetemporary spare wheel is used on the vehicle. If the spare wheel is damaged, a new one can be purchased from a Volvo retailer.
WARNING
Current legislation prohibits the use of the "Temporary Spare" tire other than as atemporary replacement for a puncturedtire. It must be replaced as soon as possi-ble by a standard tire. Road holding andhandling may be affected with the "Tempo-rary Spare" in use. Do not drive faster than80 km/h (50 mph).

WARNING
The vehicle must never be driven with more than one "Temporary Spare" tiremounted.
Driving with a spare wheel may alterthe driving characteristics of the vehi-cle. Replace the spare wheel with anormal wheel as soon as possible.
The spare wheel is smaller than thenormal wheel, which affects the vehi-cle's ground clearance. Watch for highcurbs and do not wash the vehicle inan automatic car wash when a sparewheel is mounted.
Follow the manufacturer's recom-mended tire inflation pressure for thespare wheel.
On all-wheel drive vehicles, the driveon the rear axle can be disconnected.
If the spare wheel is mounted on thefront axle, snow chains must not beused.
The spare wheel must not be repaired.
CAUTION
The vehicle must not be driven with wheels of different dimensions or with a spare tireother than the one that came with the vehi-cle. The use of different size wheels canseriously damage your vehicle's transmis-sion.

Handling spare tires Follow these instructions regarding handling the spare wheel.
This illustration is generic and appearance may vary.
The spare wheel is stored in a bag and should be secured with two straps onto the floor ofthe trunk/cargo compartment when the vehi-cle is being driven. The straps should be strap-ped down crosswise over the wheel, attachedto the load anchoring eyelets and pulled taut. Wheel changing tools are located under the cargo compartment floor.
Polestar EngineeredIf your vehicle is Polestar Engineered,Temporary Spare tires will not fit on the frontwheel axle due to the larger brakes. Tires should only be moved between the front and back, never from right to left or vice versa.

If one of the front tires needs to be replaced with a spare tire:
1. Use the spare tire to replace the rear tire
on the same side of the vehicle as the flat tire.
2. Move the rear tire to the front to replace the flat tire.

Snow tires
Snow tires are designed for winter driving conditions.
Volvo recommends snow tires with specific dimensions. The tire dimensions vary depend-ing on engine type. When driving with snowtires, the correct type of tires must be moun-ted on all four wheels.
NOTE
Contact a Volvo dealer for advice on the best choice of rims and tires.
Tips for changing snow tiresWhen switching between regular tires and snow tires, mark the tires according to whichside they were mounted on, e.g. L for left and
R for right.
Studded tiresStudded tires should be broken in by driving500–1000 km (300–600 miles) slowly andgently to help the studs settle properly in thetires. This gives the tire, and especially thestuds, a longer service life.
NOTE
Regulations regarding the use of studded tires vary from country to country.
Tread depthRoad conditions with ice, slush and low tem- peratures place considerably higher demandson tires than summer conditions. Volvo there-fore recommends not driving on snow tiresthat have a tread depth of less than 4 mm(0.15 inch).

Tire sealing system14
The temporary tire sealing system can be used to seal a puncture in a tire or to checkand adjust the pressure in the tire. Models equipped with a spare wheel 15
do not
have the tire sealing system.
WARNING

The tire sealing system consists of a compres- sor and a bottle containing sealing compound.The sealing functions as a temporary repair.
NOTE
The sealing compound effectively seals tires with punctures in the tread but maynot be able to fully seal tires with punctu-res in the sidewall. Do not use the tire seal-ing system on tires with large tears, cracksor similar damage.
NOTE
The compressor is intended for temporary tire sealing and is approved by Volvo.
LocationThe tire sealing system is located in a foam block under the floor of the cargo compart-ment.
Sealing compound expiration dateThe sealing compound bottle must be replaced if its expiration date has passed (seethe decal on the bottle). Handle the old bottleas hazardous waste.

5648. Start the compressor by moving the
switch to the I (On) position.
WARNING
Never stand next to a tire being inflated with the compressor. If cracks, bulges, etc.form on the tire, switch off the compressorimmediately. The vehicle should not bedriven. Call roadside assistance to have thevehicle towed to a workshop for inspec-tion/replacement of the tire. Volvo recom-mends an authorized workshop.
NOTE
When the compressor first starts, air pres- sure may temporarily increase up to 6 bar(88 psi) but should decrease again afterapproximately 30 seconds.
9. Inflate the tire for 7 minutes.
CAUTION
To help avoid overheating, the compressor should never be used for more than10 minutes at a time.
10. Switch off the compressor and check the
inflation pressure using the air pressure gauge. The inflation pressure should bebetween 1.8 bar (22 psi) and 3.5 bar(51 psi). If the inflation pressure is toohigh, use the air release valve to releaseair.
WARNING
If pressure falls below 1.8 bar (22 psi), the hole in the tire may be too large. The vehi-cle should not be driven. Call roadsideassistance to have the vehicle towed to aworkshop for inspection/replacement ofthe tire. Volvo recommends an authorizedworkshop.
11. Switch off the compressor and remove the electrical cable.
12. Unscrew the hose from the tire's valve and screw the valve cap back on.
NOTE
After inflating a tire, always replace the valve cap to help prevent valve damagecaused by gravel, dirt, etc.
Use plastic valve caps only. Metal capscould corrode and become difficult toremove.
13. Put the protective hose cover onto the
hose to help prevent leakage of any resid- ual sealing compound. Return the equip-ment to the cargo compartment.
14. Immediately drive the vehicle at least 3 km (2 miles) at a maximum speed of80 km/h (50 mph) to allow the sealingcompound to seal the tire, and thenrecheck the inflation pressure.
WARNING
During the tire's first revolution, some seal- ing compound may spray out of the punc-ture hole. Before driving away, make surethat no one is near the vehicle who couldbe sprayed with sealing compound. Makesure no one is within 2 meters(7 feet) ofthe vehicle.
15. Rechecking the inflation pressure Connect the hose to the tire's valve and screw the hose connector onto the valveas far as possible. The compressor mustbe switched off.

16. Check the inflation pressure on the air
pressure gauge.
If the pressure is under 1.3 bar (19 psi), the tire is not sufficiently sealed. Thevehicle should not be driven. Call road-side assistance to have the vehicletowed.
If the inflation pressure is higher than1.3 bar (19 psi), the tire must be inflatedto the inflation pressure specified onthe tire pressure decal on the driver'sside door pillar (1 bar = 100 kPa =14.5 psi). If the inflation pressure is toohigh, use the air release valve to releaseair.
WARNING
Check inflation pressure regularly.
Volvo recommends driving to the nearest authorized Volvo workshop to have the tirereplaced/repaired. Inform the workshop thatthe tire contains sealing compound. The sealing compound bottle and the hose must be replaced after use. Volvo recom-mends contacting an authorized Volvo work-shop for replacement.
WARNING
After using the tire sealing system, the vehicle should not be driven farther thanapproximately 200 km (120 miles).
NOTE
The compressor is an electric device. Fol- low local regulations for disposal.

The vehicle's original tires can be inflated using the compressor in the tire sealing sys-tem.
1. The compressor must be switched off. Make sure that the switch is in the 0 (Off)
position and take out the electrical cable and the hose.
2. Unscrew the tire's valve cap and screw the hose's valve connector as far as possi-ble onto the valve. Be sure the air release valve on the com- pressor's hose is completely closed.
3. Connect the electrical cable to the nearest 12 V outlet and start the vehicle.
WARNING
Inhaling exhaust fumes could lead to seri- ous injury. Never leave the engine runningin an enclosed space or a space withoutsufficient ventilation.

Never leave children unattended in the vehicle while the engine is running.

5664. Start the compressor by moving the
switch to the I (On) position.
CAUTION
Risk of overheating. The compressor should not be running for longer than 10minutes at a time.
5. Inflate the tire to the pressure specified on
the tire pressure decal on the driver's side door pillar. If the inflation pressure is toohigh, use the air release valve to releaseair.
6. Switch off the compressor. Remove the hose and the electrical cable.
7. Screw the valve cap back onto the tire.
NOTE

Determining the vehicle's permitted weight
Properly loading your vehicle will provide maximum return of vehicle design perform-ance.
Weight designationsBefore loading your vehicle, familiarize your- self with the following terms for determiningyour vehicle's weight ratings, with or without atrailer, from the vehicle's Federal/CanadianMotor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS/CMVSS) label, and the vehicle's tire informa-tion placard:
Curb weight
The weight of the vehicle including a full tank of fuel and all standard equipment. It does notinclude passengers, cargo, or optional equip-ment.
Capacity weight
All weight added to the curb weight, including cargo and optional equipment. When towing,towbar weight is also part of cargo weight.
Permissible axle weight
The maximum allowable weight that can be carried by a single axle (front or rear). Thesenumbers are shown on the Federal/CanadianMotor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS/CMVSS) label. The total load on each axlemust never exceed its maximum permissibleweight.

This service offers a way to send a booking request for service and workshop appoint-ments directly from the vehicle.
When it is time for service, and in certain cases if the vehicle requires repairs, a mes-sage will be displayed in the instrument paneland at the top of the center display. The timefor service is determined by how much timehas elapsed, the number of hours the enginehas run, or the distance driven since the lastservice.
To use the service
Create a Volvo ID and register it to thevehicle.

Hoisting the vehicle
When hoisting the vehicle, it is important that the jack is positioned on the designatedpoints under the vehicle.
For vehicles with Leveling Control* : If the
vehicle is equipped with pneumatic suspen- sion, this feature must be turned off before thevehicle is lifted onto a tow truck.
WARNING
If the vehicle is lifted on a garage jack, the jack must be placed under one of the fourlifting points. Make sure that the vehicle iscorrectly positioned on the jack and that itcannot slide off. Make sure the jack platehas a rubber pad to help keep the vehiclestable and prevent damage. Always useaxle stands or similar.
NOTE
Volvo recommends only using the jack intended for your specific vehicle model. Ifa jack other than that recommended byVolvo is used, follow the instructionsincluded with the equipment. The vehicle's ordinary jack is only intended to be used in temporary situations for shortperiods of time, such as when changingwheels in the event of a flat tire. If the vehi-cle needs to be lifted more frequently, orfor a longer period of time than for a wheelchange, a garage jack or hoist is recom-mended. Always follow the instructions foruse provided with the equipment.
