Low Speed Control (LSC) Low Speed Control (LSC) helps make off-road driving easier on slippery surfaces when towinga trailer on grass, etc. This feature is part of the
Off Road drive mode.
When driving at low speeds, LSC prioritizes low gears and all wheel drive to help avoid wheel spinand to improve the vehicle's tractive force. Theaccelerator pedal and engine react differently tomake low-speed driving easier. It is activated along with Hill Descent Control (HDC), which increases engine braking to helpkeep vehicle speed low and smooth, even drivingdown steep hills.
Activating LSCThis function can be activated in different ways, depending on how the vehicle is equipped.
Using the driving mode control
*
Select the Off Road drive mode to activate LSC.
Select any other drive mode to turn it off.
NOTE
When LSC with HDC is activated by the Off
Road drive mode, the feel of the accelerator
pedal and engine response will change. The function is deactivated when driving at higher speeds and must be reactivated atlower speeds if so desired.

When you are within approx.100 yards/meters of the vehicle, you can activateits horn and turn signals to help locate it.
The vehicle's instrument panelThis function provides information such as: thefuel level, range on the remaining fuel, averagefuel consumption, average speed and odometer/trip odometer readings.
Vehicle "checkup"The mobile app monitors the vehicle's conditionand provides information about bulbs and the lev-els of brake fluid, coolant and engine oil.
Driving logbookDetailed information about each trip made duringthe past 40 days can be saved and downloaded. All or part of this information can be exportedfrom the mobile app to a spreadsheet format andsent to an email address. This is very useful fore.g., keeping track of business-related driving. This function can be deactivated, in which case the vehicle will not transmit logbook informationat the end of each trip.

Theft notificationIf the vehicle's alarm is triggered, the owner willbe informed via his/her cell phone.
Remote door unlockThe status of all doors and windows is provided. The owner can lock/unlock the vehicle fromanother location but for security reasons, theapp's password is always required before thevehicle can be unlocked.
Engine remote start (ERS)*1ERS makes it possible to remotely start theengine using the remote key to enable the cli-mate system to cool or heat the passenger com-partment before driving. When the engine starts, the climate and infotain- ment systems will restart using the same settingsas when the engine was switched off. You can choose to let the engine run for between 1 and 15 minutes before it automati-cally switches off again. After 2 ERS starts, theengine must be started in the normal way beforeERS can be used again.
WARNING
Keep the following in mind before using ERS:
• The vehicle should be in view.
• The vehicle should be unoccupied.
• The vehicle must not be parked indoors or in an enclosed area. Exhaust fumes areharmful to the health.
NOTE
Always observe applicable state, province and/or local laws regarding engine idlingwhen using ERS.

WHEELS AND TIRES
473
Snow tires and chains
The use of snow chains and/or winter tires can help improve traction in winter driving conditions.
Snow chains can be used on your Volvo with the following restrictions:
• Snow chains should be installed on front wheels only. Use only Volvo approved snowchains.
• If accessory, aftermarket or "custom" tiresand wheels are installed and are of a size dif-ferent than the original tires and wheels, chains in some cases CANNOT be used.Sufficient clearances between chains andbrakes, suspension and body componentsmust be maintained.
• Some strap-on type chains will interfere withbrake components and therefore CANNOTbe used.
• All Wheel Drive models
: Snow chains
should only be installed on the front wheels.
• Certain size tires may not allow the assemblyof snow chains/traction devices.
Consult your Volvo retailer for additional snow chain information.
CAUTION
• Snow chains should not be used on wheels larger than 19".
• Always follow the chain manufacturer'sinstallation instructions carefully. Installchains as tightly as possible andretighten periodically.
• Check local regulations regarding the useof snow chains before installing.
• Use single-sided snow chains only.
• Never exceed the chain manufacturer'sspecified maximum speed limit. (Underno circumstances should you exceed31 mph (50 km/h).
• Avoid bumps, holes or sharp turns whendriving with snow chains.
• The handling of the vehicle can beadversely affected when driving withchains. Avoid fast or sharp turns as wellas locked wheel braking.
Checking tire inflation pressure
Correct tire inflation pressure helps improve driv- ing stability, save fuel and increase the servicelife of the tires.
WARNING
• Under-inflation is the most common cause of tire failure and may result insevere tire cracking, tread separation, or"blow-out," with unexpected loss of vehi-cle control and increased risk of injury.
• Under-inflated tires reduce the load car-rying capacity of your vehicle.
Cold tiresInflation pressure should be checked when the tires are cold. The tires are considered to be cold when they have the same temperature as the sur-rounding (ambient) air. This temperature is normally reached after the vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours. After driving a distance of approximately 1 mile (1.6 km), the tires are considered to be hot. If youhave to drive farther than this distance to pumpyour tire(s), check and record the tire pressurefirst and add the appropriate air pressure whenyou get to the pump. When weather temperature changes occur, tire inflation pressures also change. A 10-degree

Support battery Vehicles equipped with Start/Stop are equipped with two 12-volt batteries.
In addition to a heavy-duty start battery, models with Start/Stop also have a support battery thatprovides extra current during the Start/Stopfunction's start sequence.
The support battery is located in a box next to the spring strut in the engine compartment
The following table shows the specifications for the support battery:
Current (V)12
Cold start capacity (Cold Cranking Amperes -CCA) (A)170
Dimensions, L×W×H in. (mm)5.9×3.5×5.1
(150×90×130)
Capacity (Ah)10
• When replacing the start battery or support battery in a vehicle with Start/Stop, anAbsorbed Glass Mat (AGM) must be used.
• The greater the current consumption in thevehicle, the more the generator has to oper-ate and the battery is charged. This increasesfuel consumption.
• When the start battery's charge is below theminimum permitted level, the Start/Stopfunction will be disabled.
When the Start/Stop function is temporarily disa- bled due to high current consumption:
• The engine will auto-start, even if the brake pedal is depressed.
The support battery does not normally required more service than the start battery. If questionsarise, consult a Volvo retailer or trained and quali-fied Volvo service technician.
CAUTION
When connecting an external start battery or a battery charger, the Start/Stop function maybe temporarily disabled if the negative termi-nal on the vehicle's start battery is used toconnect an external start battery or a battery charger. Only the negative connection point
in the engine compartment may be used as a ground point.
NOTE
If the start battery is completely discharged and the vehicle has no normal electrical func-tions, and the engine is then started using anauxiliary battery or battery charger, theStart/Stop function will be activated. Theengine can then be auto-stopped but may notauto-start again due to an insufficient chargelevel in the start battery. To help ensure auto-start, the start battery should be charged first. At a temperature ofapprox. 60 °F (15 °C), the battery should becharged for at least 1 hour, preferably usingan external battery charger. At lower tempera-tures, the battery should be charged for3–4 hours. If a charger is not available, it is advisable to disable the Start/Stop function until the bat-tery is sufficiently recharged.
