210 Unlocking the glove compartment
1. This function can be deactivated from the
center display's Function or Settings view:
• Go to Function view and tap
Private
locking locked.
• Go to settings and select
My CarLocking and Unlocking Feedback.
Deselect the Private Locking box.
> A pop-up window will appear.
2. Specify the code to be used to lock the glove compartment and tap
Confirm.
> The glove compartment will be unlocked.
Using the glove compartment as a cooler *
The glove compartment can be used to cool drinks or food and the cooling feature functionswhen the climate system is active (i.e., when the ignition is in mode II or when the engine is run-
ning).
Cooling activated

–Activate/deactivate cooling by moving the control as far as possible toward the passen-ger compartment/glove compartment.

Tunnel console The tunnel console, located between the front seats, contains a 12-volt electrical socket, cupholders and storage spaces, etc.

One of the alarm sensors, which is sensitive to metallic objects, is located under the tunnelconsole cup holders. Avoid leaving coins,keys, etc., in the cup holders because theymay inadvertently trigger the alarm.

Pressure from the front seats against the cargo net could damage the net and/or itsbrackets.
5. Pull the lower straps taut.
Removing and storing
1. Reduce tension on the net by pressing the
button on the lower straps' respective locks and allow some slack on both sides.
2. Press in the catches and release both of the straps' hooks.
3. Remove the upper hooks from the ceiling mounting points.
4. Press the red button on the upper rod to allow it to fold.
5. Fold and roll up the net. Store the net under the cargo compartment floor.

Steel cargo grid
*
Your vehicle can be equipped with a steel grid that helps prevent objects in the cargo area frommoving forward into the passenger compart-ment.
The steel grid is made up of the grid itself and two separate mounting brackets. Each of thebrackets has a screw cover and there are twoplastic sleeves for the grid.
WARNING
• No one should ever be allowed to remain in the cargo compartment when the vehi-cle is moving.
• The steel grid may only be used in therear position described in this article. Theceiling attachment points above the front seats are
not intended to anchor the
steel grid.
• The third row of seats (7-seat models
*
only): these seats must be folded down when the steel grid is mounted in thevehicle.
• After being mounted, be sure that thesteel grid is securely anchored in place.
Mounting1. Fold down the rear seats (second row of
seats in 7-seat models) and lift in the steel grid through one of the rear doors or the tail-gate. The curved (convex) side of the gridshould face toward the cargo compartmentand the hooks on each side of the gridshould face upward. The mounting bracketsand plastic sleeves are not needed in thisstep.
2. Press one of the grid's hooks into the largerpart of the opening in the ceiling attachment point (1) as shown in the illustration.
3. Grasp the grid near the hook and move it toward the smaller opening (2).
> This secures the hook in the attachmentpoint.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the hook on the opposite side of the grid.

Changing the remote key's battery The remote key can be opened if the battery needs to be replaced.
The battery should be replaced if:• The information symbol illuminates and
Unavailable Battery level too low is

and/or
• if the locks do not react after several attempts to unlock or lock the vehicle
Replacing the battery
Hold the remote key with the front side
(with the Volvo symbol) toward you and move the button on lower edge of the key near thekey ring to the right. Slide the front coverslightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can be
removed from the key.
Move the button to the side and slide
rear cover slightly upward.

Use e.g., a screwdriver to turn the battery cover counterclockwise so that the markers align toward OPEN.
Remove the cover carefully by pressing
e.g., a finger nail into the indentation.
Pry the cover up.
The battery's positive ( +) side is up. Pry
out the battery as shown in the illustration.
CAUTION
When handling batteries, avoid touching their contact surfaces as this could result in poorbattery function in the remote key.
Insert a new battery 4
with the positive ( +)
side up. Put the battery cover back in place by:
Placing the battery's edge downward in
the holder. Slide the battery forward so that it is held in place by the two plastic catches.
Pressing the battery downward so that it
is also held in place by the two upper catches under the upper black holder. and turn until the marker points to CLOSE.

Detaching the key blade
Hold the remote key with the front side
(with the Volvo symbol) toward you and move the button on lower edge of the key near thekey ring to the right. Slide the front coverslightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can be
removed from the key.
Remove the key blade.
After use, press the key blade back into
its position in the key, put the cover back on the key and slide it into position.
> A click indicates that the cover is correctly in place.

Foot movement tailgate operation

The foot movement sensor * simplifies opening or
closing the tailgate if your hands are full. 8

NOTE
One of the remote keys must be in your pos- session or within range when you are behindthe vehicle in order to activate the foot move-ment sensor, even if the tailgate is alreadyunlocked. This is done to help prevent thesensor from inadvertently opening the tail-gate, for example, in a car wash. Be sure that the key is not within range when the vehicle is in an automatic carwash.

WARNING
•Pilot Assist is not a collision avoidance system. The driver is always responsiblefor applying the brakes if the system doesnot detect another vehicle.
• Do not use Pilot Assist in demandingdriving conditions such as city driving orother heavy traffic situations, in slipperyconditions, when there is a great deal ofwater or slush on the road, during heavyrain or snow, in poor visibility, on windingroads or on highway on- or off-ramps.
• Pilot Assist uses the vehicle's cameraand radar sensor, which have limitations.
Pilot Assist may deactivate or not function optimally if:
• the lane's side market lines are missing, badly faded or cross each other.
• the division of lanes is not clear, e.g.,when a line divides or merges withanother, at exits or if there are many roadsigns/markers.
• if there are edges or other lines on ornear the lane, e.g., curbs, cracks, repairedareas, sharp shadows, etc.
• the lane is narrow or winding.
• the weather conditions (rain, snow, fog,slush, poor visibility, backlighting, etc).
The driver should also be aware that Pilot Assist has the following limitations:
• High curbs, barriers and temporary obsta- cles (cones, barriers etc) may not bedetected or could be detected incorrectlyas side marker lines, which may create arisk of collision. The driver must ensure asafe distance to these obstacles.
• The camera or radar sensor may not beable to detect objects if there are pot-holes or if there are stationary objectspartially or completely blocking the road.
• Pilot Assist does not "see" pedestrians,animals, etc.
• Pilot Assist's steering capacity is limitedand may not always be able to help thedriver keep the vehicle in the lane.
The driver can always take action to override Pilot Assist.
Steep roads and/or heavy loadsPilot Assist is primarily intended for use on rela-tively level roads. The function may not be able tomaintain the correct time interval to the vehicleahead on when driving down steep hills, when thevehicle is transporting a heavy load or if it is tow-ing a trailer. The driver should be attentive andprepared to apply the brakes in these situations.

Adaptive cruise control passing assistance
ACC can assist the driver when passing other vehicles.
How passing assistance worksWhen ACC is following another vehicle and the driver indicates that he/she is about to pass thatvehicle by using the left turn signal, ACC willbegin accelerating toward the vehicle aheadbefore your vehicle has moved into the passinglane. The function will then delay a speed reduction to avoid early braking as your vehicle approachesthe slower-moving vehicle. The function is active until your vehicle has passed the other vehicle.
WARNING
Be aware that this function may be activated in situations other than when passing a vehi-cle, such as if the turn signal is used to indi-cate a lane change or to indicate a turn. Thevehicle will accelerate briefly.
Using passing assistanceTo activate passing assistance:
• Your vehicle (ACC) must be following another vehicle (the target vehicle).
• Current speed must be at least approx.45 mph (70 km/h ). •
The speed set for ACC must be high enoughto safely pass the vehicle ahead.
Starting passing assistanceTo start a passing assistance sequence:
• Activate the left turn signal.
Passing assistance limitations
WARNING
The driver should be prepared for sudden changes when passing assistance is used. Incertain cases, there may be undesired accel-eration. Certain situations should be avoided, such as: • If the vehicle is approaching an exit to the left or a left turn.
• If the vehicle ahead slows down beforeyour vehicle has moved into the passinglane.
• Traffic in the passing lane slows down.
Passing assistance in these situations can be deactivated by putting ACC in standby mode.

When City Safety applies the brakes, the brake lights will illuminate. When City Safety is triggered and applies the brakes, a text message will be displayed in theinstrument panel.

City Safety warning level settings
City Safety is always activated but the function's warning distance can be adjusted.
NOTE
City Safety cannot be turned off and activates automatically each time the engine/electricmotor is started.
Setting a warning level (distance)
The distance set for warnings determines the system's responsiveness and sets the distance atwhich visual, audible and tangible (haptic) warn-ings will be triggered. To do so:1. Tap
Settings in the center display's Top
view.
2. Tap
My CarIntelliSafeCity Safety.
3. Choose among
Earlier, Normal or Later.
Begin by choosing
Earlier. If too many warnings
are given, change to Normal.
If the driver feels that warnings are given too often, the warning level can be lowered. Thismeans that warnings will be provided later, result-ing in fewer warnings being given. The setting
Later should only used in exceptional
circumstances, e.g., for a more dynamic driving style.
WARNING
• No automatic system can be guaranteed to function 100% correctly in all situa-tions. For that reason, never test CitySafety by driving toward a person orobject. This could result in serious injuryor death.
• Even if the setting
Earlier has been
selected, warnings may be perceived as being given late, e.g., if the difference inspeed is great or if the vehicle aheadbrakes suddenly.
• City Safety can provide a warning for apotential collision but it can never shortenthe driver's reaction time.
• To help make City Safety as effective as possible, always using the setting
Earlieris recommended.
NOTE
•Due to local traffic regulations in certain markets, RCW will
not activate the rear
turn signals. That part of the function will be deactivated.
• The use of the rear turn signals will alsobe deactivated if the City Safety warning level is set at

The tone becomes constant when you are within approximately 1 ft (30 cm) of an object and theinnermost sensor field will be red. If there areobjects within this distance both behind and infront of the vehicle, the tone alternates betweenfront and rear speakers. While an audible signal is being given, its volume level can be raised/lowered using the
>II control
in the center console or can be adjusted in the Setting menu.
WARNING
Park Assist is an information system, NOT a safety system. This system is designed to bea supplementary aid when parking the vehicle.It is not, however, intended to replace the driv-er's attention and judgement.
Rear park assist
The system's rear sensors are activated automat- ically when the engine is started and are active ifthe vehicle rolls rearward with the gear selector in N or if R has been selected.
The distance monitored behind the vehicle is approximately 5 ft (1.5 m). The audible signalcomes from the rear speakers. The rear sensors will be deactivated automatically when towing a trailer if Volvo genuine trailer wir-ing is used. If a non-Volvo trailer hitch is beingused, it may be necessary to switch off the sys-tem manually.
Side park assist
The system's side sensors are activated automat- ically when the engine is started and are active atspeeds below approximately 6 mph (10 km/h). The distance monitored along the sides of thevehicle is approximately 1 ft (0.3 m). The audiblesignal comes from the side speakers.
Front park assist
The system's front sensors are activated auto- matically when the engine is started and areactive at speeds below approximately 6 mph(10 km/h). The distance monitored in front of the vehicle is approximately 2.5 ft (0.8 m). The audible signalcomes from the front speakers. Front Park Assist is deactivated if the parking brake is applied or if the gear selector is put in
P.
When installing auxiliary headlights, be sure that they do not obstruct the front sensors. Otherwise,these lights could trigger a Park Assist warning.
