Using the electrical outlets
The 12 V outlet can be used for devices intended for this such as MP3 players, coolersand cellular phones. The high-voltage outlet * can be used for devices
intended for this, such as chargers, laptops, etc.
The ignition must be in at least mode I for the
outlets to supply current. The outlets will then be active as long as there is sufficient charge in thestart battery. If the engine is turned off and the vehicle is locked, the outlets will be deactivated. If theengine is turned off and the vehicle remainsunlocked, the sockets will remain active for up to7 minutes.
NOTE
Bear in mind that using the electrical outlets when the engine is off could cause the starterbattery to have too low of a charge level,which could limit other functionality. Accessories connected to the electrical out- lets can be activated even when the vehicleelectrical system is off or if preconditioning isused. For this reason, disconnect plugs whenthey are not in use to prevent the starter bat-tery from becoming discharged.
WARNING
• Do not use accessories with large or heavy plugs – they could damage the out-let or come loose while you are driving.
• Do not use accessories that could causedisruptions to e.g. the vehicle's radioreceiver or electrical system.
• Position the accessory so that there is norisk of it injuring the driver or passengersin the event of heavy braking or a colli-sion.
• Pay attention to connected accessoriesas they can generate heat that could burnpassengers or the interior.
Using 12 V outlets1. Remove the stopper (tunnel console) or fold
down the cover (trunk/cargo compartment)over the socket and plug in the device.
2. Unplug the device and put the stopper back in (tunnel console) or fold up the cover(trunk/cargo compartment) when the socketis not in use or left unattended.
CAUTION
The maximum power is 120 W (10 A) per outlet.
Using high-voltage outletsThe ignition must be in at least mode I for outlets
to supply current. The outlets will then be active as long as there is sufficient charge in the startbattery. 1. Slide down the cover over the outlet and plug in the device. >
The LED 2
light on the outlet will indicate
its status.
2. The outlet is supplying electrical current when the light is glowing steadily green.
3. Disconnect the device by pulling out the plug (do not pull on the cord). Pull up the cover when the outlet is not in use or is left unattended.
CAUTION
The maximum power is 150 W.
WARNING
Do not attempt to alter or repair the high-volt- age outlet on your own. Volvo recommendscontacting an authorized Volvo workshop.

WARNING
•Only use accessories that are not dam- aged or malfunctioning. The accessoriesmust be designed for 120 V and 60 Hz,with plugs intended for the outlet. Theaccessories must be CE marked, ULmarked or have an equivalent safetymarking.
• New let outlets, plugs or accessoriescome into contact with water or anotherfluid. Do not touch or use the outlet if itappears damaged or has been in contactwith water or another fluid.
• Do not connect power strips, adapters orextension cords to the outlet has thiscould cause the outlet's safety functionsto malfunction.
• The outlet is equipped with a pet guard.Make sure that no one picks at or dam-ages the outlet in such a way that theguard is disabled. Children should not beleft unsupervised in the vehicle when theoutlet is active.
Failure to follow the above could lead to severe or fatal electrical shocks.

Using the glove compartment
The glove compartment is located on the pas- senger side. The glove compartment can beused to store the Owner's Manual, maps, etc.There is also room for a pen and a card holder.

The glove compartment is opened by pressing the opening button in the center console.
Locking and unlocking the glove box
The glove compartment can be locked ("private locking") when the vehicle is left at a workshop,hotel, etc. When private locking is activated, thetailgate is also locked.
Using the glove box as a cooled area
The glove compartment can be used to cool e.g. drinks or food. Cooling is possible when the cli- mate system is active (i.e. when the ignition is in mode II or when the engine is running).

Sun visors In the ceiling in front of the driver and front pas- senger, there are sun visors that can be loweredand angled to the side as necessary.
The illustration is generic – the design may vary.
The mirror lighting * comes on automatically when
the cover is lifted up. The mirror frame has a holder for e.g. cards or tickets.

Cargo compartment The vehicle has a flexible cargo compartment that makes it possible to carry and secure largeobjects.
The cargo compartment capacity can be consid- erably increased by folding down the backrests in the second and third rows
* of seats. To make
loading and unloading easier, the rear section of the vehicle can be raised and lowered using the level control function *. Use the load anchoring
eyelets or grocery bag holders to help secure objects in place, and the retractable cargo com- partment cover * to help conceal objects in the
cargo compartment. If the vehicle is equipped with a temporary spare tire, this is secured to the cargo compartmentfloor under the cover. The towing eyelet and tiresealing system are located under the cargo com-partment floor.

Loading recommendations
There are a number of things to consider when carrying loads in or on the vehicle.
Load-carrying capacity is determined by the vehi- cle's curb weight. The total weight of all passen-gers and any installed accessories reduces thevehicle's load-carrying capacity by the corres-ponding amount.
WARNING
The vehicle's driving characteristics change depending on the weight and position of theload.
Loading in the trunk and cargo compartment
• Position objects so they are pressing against the rear seat backrests.
• Distribute the load evenly.
• Heavy objects should be positioned as lowas possible. Avoid placing heavy objects onfolded-down seat backrests.
• Cover sharp corners with a soft cloth or simi-lar to help prevent damage to the upholstery.
• Use the load anchoring eyelets and tension-ing straps or similar to secure all objects.

WARNING
In a head-on collision at a speed of 50 km/h (30 mph), an unsecured object weighing 20kg (44 pounds) can reach a projectile weightequivalent to 1000 kg (2200 pounds).
WARNING
If objects are loaded higher than the upper edge of the side windows, leave a 10 cm (4in.) space between the objects and the win-dow. Objects placed closer to this couldimpede the function of the inflatable curtainconcealed inside the headlining.
WARNING
Always secure the load. Otherwise, it may shift during heavy braking and injure people in thevehicle. Cover sharp edges and sharp corners with something soft. Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake when loading/unloading long objects.Otherwise, it is possible for the load to reachthe gear lever or gear selector and move it toa drive position – which could cause the vehi-cle to begin rolling.
Extra cargo space
The rear seat backrests can be folded down to increase cargo compartment space and simplifyloading. If the rear seat backrests are folded down, make sure that no objects loaded into thevehicle prevent the WHIPS system for the frontseats from functioning correctly.
Raising/lowering the rear end of the vehicle

The rear end of the vehicle can be lowered or raised for easier loading or to facilitate attaching a trailer*.
The controls for raising/lowering are located at the rear edge of the cargo compartment's rightside panel.

The controls consist of two buttons ‒ one button
for lowering and one button for raising the rear end. Press and hold the relevant button until thedesired height is reached. The rear end of the vehicle cannot be raised higher than its normal height. The rear end will return to the normal heightwhen the vehicle begins driving.
NOTE
It is not possible to adjust the height of the vehicle's rear when one or more of the doorsor the hood is open. This does not apply tothe tailgate.
WARNING
Make sure that no people, animals or objects are found under the vehicle when it is low-ered. This could endanger life and causedamage to the vehicle or objects.

Roof loads and load carriers Volvo-developed load carriers are recommended for carrying loads on the roof of the vehicle.
Volvo load carriers are specially designed to help prevent damage to your vehicle and help ensuremaximum safety while driving. Volvo load carriersare available from authorized Volvo retailers. Carefully follow the installation instructions provi- ded with the load carriers. • Check periodically to ensure that the load carriers and load are properly secured.Secure the load firmly using tie straps orsimilar.
• Distribute the load evenly throughout theload carriers. Place heavier cargo at the bot-tom of the load.
• The vehicle's wind resistance and fuel con-sumption increase with the size of the load.
• Drive smoothly. Avoid rapid acceleration, hardbraking and fast cornering.
WARNING
The vehicle's center of gravity and driving characteristics are altered by roof loads. Follow the vehicle's specifications regarding weights and maximum permitted load.

Grocery bag holders Grocery bag holders (hooks) help keep shop- ping bags in place and prevent them from fallingover and spilling their contents in the cargocompartment.
On the sides of the cargo compartment
There are two fold-out holders in the side panels, one on each side of the cargo compartment.
CAUTION
The grocery bag holders are only intended to hold weights up to 5 kg (11 lbs).

Load anchoring eyelets
The fold-out eyelets in the cargo compartment can be used to secure objects with straps, a net,etc.
WARNING
Hard, sharp and/or heavy objects in or pro- truding from the vehicle can cause injury inthe event of hard braking. Always secure large and heavy objects with a seat belt or cargo retaining straps.

The cover can be rolled out to conceal objects in the cargo compartment.

Press the end piece on one side of the cover into the retaining bracket in the side panel ofthe cargo compartment.
Then put the other end piece in the recess in the side panel on the opposite side.
Push the end piece down on both sides, one at a time.
> When a click is heard and the red marks
on each end piece are no longer visible, the cover is in place. Check that it issecure.
Removing the cargo compartment cover
In retracted position:
1. Press the button on one of the cover's ends and lift out that end.For 7-seat models - remove the third row seat belt latches from the hooks above theside panels.
2. Carefully lift the cover up and out. > The other end will release automaticallyand the cover can then be lifted out of thecargo compartment.

Loading mode
From the fully retracted position - grasp the handle and pull the cover up and over theside panels in the cargo compartment. Pull tothe end position and press the attaching pinsat the end of the cover into the grooves inthe side panels of the vehicle. (If the cover isalready fully open, see next section.)
From the fully open position - grasp the han- dle and press the cover's attaching pinsdown into the grooves in the side panels andthen release.
> Retract the cover until it stops in the parti-
ally retracted position. If your hands are full:
In the fully open position, push the cover's handle slightly upward with e.g. your elbow. >
The cover will retract until it stops in
the partially retracted position.
To fully open the cover from the partially retrac- ted position:
1. Grasp the handle and pull the cover out as far as possible.
2. Let the cover retract slightly and press the handle slightly downward.
> The cover will be secured in the fully openposition.
CAUTION
Do not place objects on top of the cargo compartment cover.
WARNING
In 7-seat models - never have a cargo com- partment cover mounted when there are pas-sengers in the rear seats. This could lead toserious injury in the event of a collision.
Retracting the cover
1. From the fully opened position:
Lift the cover's handle and pull it rearward to release the cover's attaching pins from thegrooves. Let the cover retract. From the partially retracted position: Grasp the handle and pull the cover out of the groves to the fully open position. Lift thehandle and pull it rearward to release thecover's attaching pins from the grooves. Letthe cover retract.
2. Let the cover retract with its attaching pins above the side panels until it stops in thefully retracted position.

Installing and removing the steel
cargo grid *
The steel cargo grid prevents loads or pets in the cargo compartment from being thrown for-ward into the passenger compartment.
For safety reasons, the steel grid must always be installed and secured correctly.
WARNING
Under no circumstances may a person be in the cargo compartment when the vehicle ismoving. Heavy braking or a collision couldlead to serious injury.
The steel grid consists of the grid itself and two separate mounting brackets. Each of the mount- ing brackets has a screw cover and two plasticsleeves for the grid.
WARNING
The steel cargo grid may only be used in the rear position described here. The ceilingattachment points behind the front seats arenot intended to anchor the steel grid.
WARNING
For safety reasons, the third-row seats

must
be folded down when the steel cargo grid is mounted in the vehicle.
CAUTION
The steel cargo grid and the cargo compart- ment cover cannot be mounted at the sametime.
Installation1. Fold down the rear seats and lift in the steel
grid through one of the rear doors or the tail- gate. The curved (convex) side of the gridshould face toward the cargo compartmentand the hooks on each side of the gridshould face upward. The mounting bracketsand plastic sleeves are not needed in thisstep.
2. Press one of the grid's hooks into the largerhole in the ceiling attachment point (1). Grasp the grid near the hook and pull/push it into the smaller hole (2).
> The hook is now secured in the attach-ment point.
3. Repeat step 2 above to secure the other hook in the attachment point on the opposite side.
WARNING
Make sure the cargo grid's hooks are securely attached in the ceiling attachment points tohelp ensure the grid does not come loose.

WARNING
Objects in the cargo compartment must always be securely anchored, even with a cor-rectly installed cargo net.
Installing the cargo net
WARNING
All of the cargo net's upper consoles, hooks and straps must be securely mounted andattached before the net is used. Never use the net if it is damaged.
NOTE
With front mounting, the cargo net is most easily installed via a rear door.
1. Fold out the cargo net and make sure thatthe upper rod folds out and locks into posi- tion.
2. Insert one of the net's hooks into the front or rear ceiling mounting point with the straplock facing you. 3. Insert the other upper hook into the ceiling
mounting point on the opposite side. Thetelescopic spring-loaded hooks make mount-ing easier. Make sure that the net's hooks are pushed forward as far as possible into their respec-tive mounting points. 4. Rear mounting: With the cargo net hooked
into the rear ceiling mounting points, attachthe net's straps into the front floor eyelets inthe cargo compartment.

Front mounting: With the cargo net mounted in the front ceiling mounting points, hook thestraps into the outer eyelets on the front seatrails behind the seats. Attaching the net iseasier if the seat backrests are upright andthe seats are moved slightly forward.
