Saving a new inflation pressure in the monitoring system *
In order for the tire pressure monitoring sys- tem 9
to function correctly, tire pressure refer-
ence values must be saved correctly. To help ensure that the system can correctly alert thedriver of low inflation pressure, this must bedone each time the tires are changed or theinflation pressure is adjusted.
For example, when driving with a heavy load or at high speeds (over 160 km/h (100 mph)),tire pressure should be adjusted to the Volvo-recommended tire pressure values. The sys-tem should then be reset by saving the newinflation pressure. To store the new inflation pressure as a refer- ence value in the system:
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Inflate the tire to the correct inflation pres- sure; see the tire pressure placard on the driver's side B pillar for recommendedpressures for factory-mounted tires.
3. Start the vehicle. 4. Open the
Car Status app in App view.
5. Tap
TPMS.
NOTE
The vehicle must be stationary for theStore Pressure button to be selectable.
6.Tap Store Pressure.
7. Tap
OK to confirm that the tire pressure in
all four tires has been checked and adjusted.
8. Drive the vehicle until the new inflation pressure has been saved. The new infla-tion pressure is stored when the vehicle isdriven at speeds over 35 km/h (22 mph).
> When enough data has been collectedfor the system to detect low inflation pressure, the animation showing theprogress of the storing procedure willdisappear from the center display. Thesystem will not provide any further con-firmation that the new inflation pres-sure has been stored.
If storing cannot be performed,

displayed. If the vehicle's ignition is switched off before the new inflation pressure has been saved, theprocedure must be performed again. To helpensure that the new inflation pressure is saved correctly, allow the storing procedure to com-plete during a single operating cycle.
WARNING
The exhaust gases contain carbon monox- ide, which is invisible and odorless but verypoisonous. The procedure for saving a newinflation pressure must therefore always beperformed outdoors or in a workshop withexhaust gas extraction.

1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Check the inflation pressure on all four tires using a tire pressure gauge.

4. After the inflation pressure has been adjusted, always save the new inflationpressure in the system via the center dis-play. Please be aware that the indicator symbol will not go out until the low tire pressurehas been corrected and a storing proce-dure has been started for the new inflationpressure.
NOTE
To help prevent incorrect inflation pressure, pressure should be checked when the tiresare cold. The tires are considered to becold when they have reached the sametemperature as the ambient temperature(about 3 hours after the vehicle was lastdriven). After driving for a few kilometers,the tires will warm up and the pressure willincrease.
NOTE
After inflating a tire, always replace the valve cap to help prevent valve damagecaused by gravel, dirt, etc.
Use plastic valve caps only. Metal capscould corrode and become difficult toremove.
WARNING

Incorrect inflation pressure could lead to tire failure, which could cause thedriver to lose control of the vehicle.
The system cannot predict sudden tiredamage.

4. Tighten the wheel bolts in a crisscross pat-
tern (as shown in illustration). It is impor- tant that the wheel bolts are securelytightened. Tighten to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.).Use a torque wrench to check torque.
5. Press the plastic covers onto the wheel bolts.
6. Check the tire inflation pressure and store the new inflation pressure in the tire pres- sure monitoring system *.
WARNING
The wheel bolts may need to be tightened again several days after a wheel change.Temperature fluctuations and vibrationscan cause them to loosen slightly.
NOTE
After inflating a tire, always replace the valve cap to help prevent valve damagecaused by gravel, dirt, etc.
Use plastic valve caps only. Metal capscould corrode and become difficult toremove.

Spare wheel 13
The spare wheel is a Temporary Spare and can be used to temporarily replace a punc- tured tire on one of the vehicle's regularwheels.
The spare tire is only intended for temporary use. Replace it with a normal wheel as soon aspossible. The driving characteristics of the vehicle change and ground clearance reduces whenthe spare wheel is used. Do not wash the vehi-cle in an automatic car wash while using theTemporary Spare. The recommended tire pressure must be maintained regardless of at which position thetemporary spare wheel is used on the vehicle. If the spare wheel is damaged, a new one can be purchased from a Volvo retailer.
WARNING
Current legislation prohibits the use of the "Temporary Spare" tire other than as atemporary replacement for a puncturedtire. It must be replaced as soon as possi-ble by a standard tire. Road holding andhandling may be affected with the "Tempo-rary Spare" in use. Do not drive faster than80 km/h (50 mph).

WARNING
The vehicle must never be driven with more than one "Temporary Spare" tiremounted.
Driving with a spare wheel may alterthe driving characteristics of the vehi-cle. Replace the spare wheel with anormal wheel as soon as possible.
The spare wheel is smaller than thenormal wheel, which affects the vehi-cle's ground clearance. Watch for highcurbs and do not wash the vehicle inan automatic car wash when a sparewheel is mounted.
Follow the manufacturer's recom-mended tire inflation pressure for thespare wheel.
On all-wheel drive vehicles, the driveon the rear axle can be disconnected.
If the spare wheel is mounted on thefront axle, snow chains must not beused.
The spare wheel must not be repaired.
CAUTION
The vehicle must not be driven with wheels of different dimensions or with a spare tireother than the one that came with the vehi-cle. The use of different size wheels canseriously damage your vehicle's transmis-sion.

Handling spare tires Follow these instructions regarding handling the spare wheel.
This illustration is generic and appearance may vary.
The spare wheel is stored in a bag and should be secured with two straps onto the floor ofthe trunk/cargo compartment when the vehi- cle is being driven 14
. The straps should be
strapped down crosswise over the wheel, attached to the load anchoring eyelets andpulled taut. Wheel changing tools are located under the cargo compartment floor.

CAUTION
Snow chains can be used on the vehicle, with the following restrictions:
Always follow the manufacturer'sinstallation instructions carefully. Installchains as tightly as possible andretighten periodically.
Only put snow chains on the frontwheels (also applies to all-wheel drivevehicles).
If accessory, aftermarket or "custom"tires and wheels with different dimen-sions than the original tires and wheelsare used, snow chains in some casesmay NOT be used. Sufficient distancebetween the chains and brakes, sus-pension and body components mustbe maintained.
Check local regulations regarding theuse of snow chains before installing.
Never exceed the snow chain manu-facturer's specified maximum speedlimit. Under no circumstances shouldyou exceed 50 km/h (30 mph).
Avoid bumps, holes or sharp turnswhen driving with snow chains.
Avoid driving on surfaces withoutsnow as this wears out both the snowchains and the tires.
The handling of the vehicle can be adversely affected when driving withchains. Avoid fast or sharp turns aswell as locked wheel braking.
Some types of strap-on chains affectbrake components and therefore mustNOT be used.

The temporary tire sealing system can be used to seal a puncture in a tire or to checkand adjust the pressure in the tire. Models equipped with a spare wheel 16
do not
have the tire sealing system.

NOTE
The sealing compound effectively seals tires with punctures in the tread but maynot be able to fully seal tires with punctu-res in the sidewall. Do not use the tire seal-ing system on tires with large tears, cracksor similar damage.
NOTE
The compressor is intended for temporary tire sealing and is approved by Volvo.
LocationThe tire sealing system is located in a foam block under the floor of the cargo compart-ment.
Sealing compound expiration dateThe sealing compound bottle must be replaced if its expiration date has passed (seethe decal on the bottle). Handle the old bottleas hazardous waste.

inflation pressure using the air pressure gauge. The inflation pressure should bebetween 1.8 bar (22 psi) and 3.5 bar(51 psi). If the inflation pressure is toohigh, use the air release valve to releaseair.
WARNING
If pressure falls below 1.8 bar (22 psi), the hole in the tire may be too large. The vehi-cle should not be driven. Call roadsideassistance to have the vehicle towed to aworkshop for inspection/replacement ofthe tire. Volvo recommends an authorizedworkshop.
11. Switch off the compressor and remove the electrical cable.
12. Unscrew the hose from the tire's valve and screw the valve cap back on.
NOTE
After inflating a tire, always replace the valve cap to help prevent valve damagecaused by gravel, dirt, etc.
Use plastic valve caps only. Metal capscould corrode and become difficult toremove.
13. Put the protective hose cover onto the
hose to help prevent leakage of any resid- ual sealing compound. Return the equip-ment to the cargo compartment.
14. Immediately drive the vehicle at least 3 km (2 miles) at a maximum speed of80 km/h (50 mph) to allow the sealingcompound to seal the tire, and thenrecheck the inflation pressure.
WARNING
During the tire's first revolution, some seal- ing compound may spray out of the punc-ture hole. Before driving away, make surethat no one is near the vehicle who couldbe sprayed with sealing compound. Makesure no one is within 2 meters(7 feet) ofthe vehicle.
15. Rechecking the inflation pressure Connect the hose to the tire's valve and screw the hose connector onto the valveas far as possible. The compressor mustbe switched off. 16. Check the inflation pressure on the air
pressure gauge.
If the pressure is under 1.3 bar (19 psi),the tire is not sufficiently sealed. Thevehicle should not be driven. Call road-side assistance to have the vehicletowed.
If the inflation pressure is higher than1.3 bar (19 psi), the tire must be inflatedto the inflation pressure specified onthe tire pressure decal on the driver'sside door pillar (1 bar = 100 kPa =14.5 psi). If the inflation pressure is toohigh, use the air release valve to releaseair.
WARNING
Check inflation pressure regularly.
Volvo recommends driving to the nearest authorized Volvo workshop to have the tirereplaced/repaired. Inform the workshop thatthe tire contains sealing compound. The sealing compound bottle and the hose must be replaced after use. Volvo recom-mends contacting an authorized Volvo work-shop for replacement.

WARNING
After using the tire sealing system, the vehicle should not be driven farther thanapproximately 200 km (120 miles).

The vehicle's original tires can be inflated using the compressor in the tire sealing sys-tem.
1. The compressor must be switched off. Make sure that the switch is in the 0 (Off)
position and take out the electrical cable and the hose.
2. Unscrew the tire's valve cap and screw the hose's valve connector as far as possi-ble onto the valve. Be sure the air release valve on the com- pressor's hose is completely closed.
3. Connect the electrical cable to the nearest 12 V outlet and start the vehicle.
WARNING
Inhaling exhaust fumes could lead to seri- ous injury. Never leave the engine runningin an enclosed space or a space withoutsufficient ventilation.
WARNING
Never leave children unattended in the vehicle while the engine is running. 4. Start the compressor by moving the
switch to the I (On) position.
CAUTION
Risk of overheating. The compressor should not be running for longer than 10minutes at a time.
5. Inflate the tire to the pressure specified on
the tire pressure decal on the driver's side door pillar. If the inflation pressure is toohigh, use the air release valve to releaseair.
6. Switch off the compressor. Remove the hose and the electrical cable.
7. Screw the valve cap back onto the tire.

Determining the vehicle's permitted weight
Properly loading your vehicle will provide maximum return of vehicle design perform-ance.
Weight designationsBefore loading your vehicle, familiarize your- self with the following terms for determiningyour vehicle's weight ratings, with or without atrailer, from the vehicle's Federal/CanadianMotor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS/CMVSS) label, and the vehicle's tire informa-tion placard:
Curb weight
The weight of the vehicle including a full tank of fuel and all standard equipment. It does notinclude passengers, cargo, or optional equip-ment.
Capacity weight
All weight added to the curb weight, including cargo and optional equipment. When towing,towbar weight is also part of cargo weight.
Permissible axle weight
The maximum allowable weight that can be carried by a single axle (front or rear). Thesenumbers are shown on the Federal/CanadianMotor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS/CMVSS) label. The total load on each axlemust never exceed its maximum permissibleweight.
Gross vehicle weight (GVW)
The vehicle's curb weight + cargo + passen- gers.
Steps for Determining Correct Load
Limit
1. Locate the statement "the combined weight of occupants and cargo shouldnever exceed XXX kg or XXX lbs." on yourvehicle's placard.
2. Determine the combined weight of the driver and passengers that will be riding inyour vehicle.
3. Subtract the combined weight of the driver and passengers from XXX kg or XXXlbs.
4. The resulting figure equals the available amount of cargo and luggage loadcapacity. For example, if the "XXX"amount equals 1400 lbs. and there will befive 150 lb. passengers in your vehicle, theamount of available cargo and luggageload capacity is 650 lbs. (1400 - 750 (5 ×150) = 650 lbs.)
5. Determine the combined weight of lug- gage and cargo being loaded on the vehi-cle. That weight may not safely exceed theavailable cargo and luggage load capacitycalculated in Step 4.
