Shift pedal
This machine is equipped with a constant-mesh
6-speed transmission. The shift pedal is located
on the left side of the engine and is used in com-
bination with the clutch when shifting.

Kick starter
Rotate the kick starter away from the engine.
Push the starter down lightly with your foot until
the gears engage, then kick smoothly and force-
fully to start the engine. This model has a prima-
ry-coupled kick starter so the engine can be
started in any gear if the clutch is disengaged.
However, shifting to neutral before starting is
recommended.

Make sure the transmission oil is at the specified
level. Add oil as necessary. (See pages 8-13 ~
8-19.)

Be sure to use motor oils that do not contain
anti-friction modifiers. Passenger car motor
oils (often labeled “Energy Conserving”)
contain anti-friction additives which will
cause clutch and/or starter clutch slippage,
resulting in reduced component life and poor
engine performance.

Starting a cold engine

Always make sure all control cables work
smoothly before you begin riding in cold
weather. If the control cables are frozen or
do not work smoothly, you could be unable
to control the ATV, which could lead to an
accident or collision.
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Turn the fuel cock to “ON”.
3. Turn the main switch to “ON” and the engine
stop switch to “RUN”.
4. Shift the transmission into neutral.
5. Use the starter (choke) in reference to the
figure:

Shifting
This model has a 6-speed forward transmission.
The transmission allows you to control the
amount of power you have available at a given
speed or for starting, accelerating, climbing hills,
etc. To shift into neutral, return the throttle lever
to its original position, apply the clutch and
repeatedly depress the shift pedal until it stops.
When it stops, it will be in first gear. Raise the
pedal slightly to neutral.

1. Do not coast for long periods with the
engine off, and do not tow the machine a
long distance. Even in neutral position,
the transmission is only properly lubri-
cated when the engine is running.
Inadequate lubrication may cause dam-
age.
2. Always use the clutch when changing
gears. The engine, transmission and
drive train are not designed to withstand
the shock of forced shifting and can be
damaged by shifting without the clutch.

ge de la boîte de vitesses ne s’effectue cor-
rectement que lorsque le moteur tourne.
Un graissage insuffisant risque d’entraî-
ner des dommages.
2. Toujours débrayer avant de changer de
vitesse. Le moteur, la boîte de vitesses et
la transmission ne sont pas conçus pour
résister au choc infligé par un passage en
force des vitesses et ils risquent d’être
endommagés.

1. No circule por inercia mucho tiempo con
el motor parado, ni remolque la máquina
durante largos recorridos. Incluso en la
posición de punto muerto, la lubricación
de la caja de cambios sólo se efectúa
cuando el motor está en marcha. Una

2. Utilice siempre el embrague para cam-
biar de velocidad. El motor, la caja de
cambios y la cadena cinemática no están
diseñados para soportar las consecuen-
cias de un cambio de marcha realizado a
la fuerza, por lo que pueden averiarse si
se realiza dicho cambio sin utilizar el
embrague.
