In order to prevent clutch slippage (since
the engine oil also lubricates the clutch),
do not mix any chemical additives. Do not
use oils with a diesel specification of “CD”
or oils of a higher quality than specified. In
addition, do not use oils labeled “ENERGY
CONSERVING II” or higher.


Make sure that no foreign material enters
the crankcase.

Engine oil and oil filter cartridge replacement
1. Remove panels E and F. (See pages 8-25–
8-27 for panel removal and installation proce-
dures.)
2. Warm up the engine for several minutes.
3. Stop the engine. Place an oil pan under the
engine to collect the used oil, and then re-
move the engine oil filler cap.
4. Remove the drain bolt and drain the oil.

5. Remove the oil filter cartridge with an oil filter
wrench.NOTE:_ An oil filter wrench is available at a nearby
Yamaha dealer. _6. Install the drain bolt and tighten it to the spec-
ified torque.

the new oil filter cartridge.NOTE:_ Make sure the O-ring is seated properly. _8. Install the oil filter cartridge, and then tighten

9. Fill the engine with sufficient oil to reach the
specified level. Install the engine oil filler cap
and tighten it.CAUTION:_

5. Squeeze the excess solvent out of the air fil-
ter element and let it dry.CAUTION:_ Do not twist the air filter element when squeez-
ing it. _6. Inspect the air filter element and replace it if
damaged.
7. Apply foam air filter oil to the air filter element.
If foam air filter oil is not available, engine oil
may be used.NOTE:_ The air filter element should be wet but not drip-
ping. _8. Pull the air filter element over its frame.
9. Install the air filter element assembly.
10. Install the air filter case cover.
11. Install the seat.
