This indicator light comes on when the transmis-
sion is in the neutral position.
EBU17831Reverse indicator light “ ”
This indicator light comes on when the transmis-
sion is in the reverse position.EBU17971Park indicator light “ ”
This indicator light comes on when the transmis-
sion is in the park position.EBU34562Coolant temperature warning light “ ”
This warning light comes on when the engine
overheats. When this occurs during operation,
stop the engine as soon as it is safe to do so and
allow it to cool down for about 10 minutes.
The electrical circuit of the warning light can be
checked by turning the key to “ ” (on). The
warning light should come on for a few seconds,
and then go off.
If the warning light does not come on initially when
the key is turned to “ ” (on), or if the warning
light remains on, have a Yamaha dealer check the
electrical circuit.TIPThe radiator fan turns on or off automatically ac-
cording to the coolant temperature.

EBU19227Inspect your vehicle each time you use it to make sure the vehicle is in safe operating condition. Always
follow the inspection and maintenance procedures and schedules described in the Owner’s Manual.

EWB00482Failure to inspect or maintain the vehicle properly increases the possibility of an accident or equip-
ment damage. Do not operate the vehicle if you find any problem. If a problem cannot be corrected
by the procedures provided in this manual, have the vehicle inspected by a Yamaha dealer. Before using this vehicle, check the following points:

Check that there is no free play in the front
brake lever. If there is free play, have a Yamaha
dealer check the brake system.
 Check for correct free play in the rear brake le-
ver and brake pedal. If the free play is incorrect,
adjust it. (See page 9-42.)
 Check operation of the levers and pedal. They
should move smoothly and there should be a
firm feeling when the brake is applied. If not,
have a Yamaha dealer check them.
Brake fluid level (front brake)
Check the brake fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.

familiar with all controls in order to help pre-
vent any loss of control, which could cause an
accident or injury. EBU30564Starting the engineThis model is equipped with an ignition circuit cut-
off system. To enable starting one of the following
conditions must be met:
The drive select lever is in the neutral or park po-
sition.
 The rear brake lever or brake pedal is applied.TIPIt is recommended to shift into neutral or park and
apply the rear brake when starting the engine.

addition, the coolant must be changed at the in-
tervals specified in the periodic maintenance
chart.TIPIf genuine Yamaha coolant is not available, use an
ethylene glycol antifreeze containing corrosion in-
hibitors for aluminum engines and mix with dis-
tilled water at a 1:1 ratio.
NOTICEECB02190Mix antifreeze with distilled water only. Howev-
er, if distilled water is not available, soft water
may be used for refilling. Do not use hard water
or salt water since they are harmful to the en-

mark, remove panel C to access the coolant
reservoir. (See page 9-10.)
4. Remove the coolant reservoir cap. WARNING! Remove only the coolant res-
ervoir cap. Never attempt to remove the
radiator cap when the engine is hot.

5. Add coolant to the maximum level mark, in-stall the reservoir cap, and then install the
panel. NOTICE: If coolant is not available,
use distilled water or soft tap water in-
stead. Do not use hard water or salt water
since they are harmful to the engine. If wa-
ter has been used instead of coolant, re-
place it with coolant as soon as possible,
otherwise the cooling system will not be
protected against frost and corrosion. If
water has been added to the coolant, have
a Yamaha dealer check the antifreeze con-
