The electrical circuit of the warning
light can be checked by turning the key
to “ON”. The warning light should
come on again after going off briefly,
and then remain on until the engine is
started.
If the warning light does not come on
initially when the key is turned to “ON”,
have a Yamaha dealer check the elec-
trical circuit.NOTICE

the en gine is runnin g, stop the en-
g ine imme diately an d check oil level. If the oil level is
below the minimum
level, a dd sufficient oil of the recom-

li g ht remains on even if the oil level
is correct, immed iately turn the en-

check the vehicle.
TIPIf the warning light does not go off after
starting the engine, check the engine
oil level and add oil if necessary. (See
page 6-9.)
If the warning light remains on after
adding engine oil, have a Yamaha
dealer check the vehicle.

This warning light comes on if the en-
gine overheats. If this occurs, stop the
engine immediately and allow the en-
gine to cool.

Immo bilizer system in dicator

When the key is turned to “OFF” and
30 seconds have passed, the indicator
light will start flashing indicating the im-
mobilizer system is enabled. After 24
hours have passed, the indicator light
will stop flashing, however the immobi-
lizer system is still enabled.
The electrical circuit of the indicator
light can be checked by turning the key
to “ON”. The indicator light should
come on for a few seconds, and then
go off.
If the indicator light does not come on
initially when the key is turned to “ON”,
or if the indicator light remains on, have
a Yamaha dealer check the electrical
circuit.
The self-diagnosis device also detects
problems in the immobilizer system
circuits. (See page 3-12 for an expla-
nation of the self-diagnosis device.)

brightness control mode or when
displaying the clock, the key must
be turned to “ON” before you can
use the left and right set buttons to
adjust the multi-function meter.
 For the UK: To switch between ki-
lometers and miles, press the left
set button for three seconds.Speed ometer
The speedometer shows the vehicle’s
traveling speed. Tachometer
The tachometer allows the rider to
monitor the engine speed and keep it
within the ideal power range.

Clock
The clock uses a 12-hour time system.
When the main switch is not in the
“ON” position, the clock can be viewed
for 10 seconds by pushing the left set
button.
To set the clock1. Turn the key to “ON”.
2. Push the left set button and right
set button together for two sec-
onds. The hour digits will start
flashing.
3. Use the right set button to set the hours.
4. Push the left set button, and the minute digits will start flashing.

6. Push the left set button and then release it to start the clock.
Fuel meter
The fuel meter indicates the amount of
fuel in the fuel tank. The segments of
the fuel meter disappear from “F” (full)
towards “E” (empty) as the fuel level
decreases. When the last segment of
the fuel meter and the fuel level warn-
ing indicator start flashing, refuel as
soon as possible.
TIPThe fuel meter is equipped with a self-
diagnosis function. If a problem is de-
tected in the fuel meter electrical cir-
cuit, the fuel meter and the fuel level
warning indicator will flash repeatedly.
If this occurs, have a Yamaha dealer
check the vehicle.Eco in dicator
The eco indicator comes on when the
vehicle is being operated in an environ-
mentally friendly, fuel-efficient manner.
The indicator goes off when the vehicle
is stopped.
TIPConsider the following tips to reduce
fuel consumption:  Avoid high engine speeds during
acceleration.
 Travel at a constant speed.
 Select the transmission gear that
is appropriate for the vehicle
speed.Transmission gear display
The transmission gear display shows
the selected gear. The neutral position
is indicated by “–” and by the neutral
indicator light.

To start out an d accelerate
1. Pull the clutch lever to disengage the clutch.
2. Shift the transmission into first gear. The neutral indicator light
should go out.
3. Open the throttle gradually, and at the same time, release the clutch
lever slowly. 4. At the recommended shift points
shown in the following table, close
the throttle, and at the same time,
quickly pull the clutch lever in.
5. Shift the transmission into second gear. (Make sure not to shift the
transmission into the neutral posi-
tion.)
6. Open the throttle part way and gradually release the clutch lever.
7. Follow the same procedure when shifting to the next higher gear.
TIPWhen shifting gears in normal operat-
ing conditions, use the recommended
shift points.

To decelerate
1. Release the throttle and apply both the front and the rear brakes
smoothly to slow the motorcycle.
2. At the recommended shift points shown in the following table, shift
to a lower gear.
3. When the motorcycle reaches 20 km/h (12 mi/h), the engine is about
to stall or runs roughly, pull the clutch lever in, use the brakes to
slow the motorcycle, and continue
to downshift as necessary.
4. Once the motorcycle has stopped, the transmission can be
shifted into the neutral position.
The neutral indicator light should
come on and then the clutch lever
can be released.

 After removin g the ra diator cap retainin g b olt, place a thick ra g, like a towel, over the ra diator cap, an d then
slowly rotate the cap counterclockwise to the detent to allow any resid ual pressure to escape. When the hiss-
in g soun d has stopped , press down on the cap while turnin g it counterclockwise, an d then remove the cap.TIPIf coolant is not available, tap water can be temporarily used instead, provided that it is changed to the recommended cool-
ant as soon as possible.
