Immo bilizer systemThis vehicle is equipped with an immo-
bilizer system to help prevent theft by
re-registering codes in the standard
keys. This system consists of the fol-
lowing:
 a code re-registering key
 two standard keys
 a transponder (in each key)
 an immobilizer unit (on the vehicle)
 an ECU (on the vehicle)
 a system indicator light (page 3-7) A
bout the keys
The key with the red bow is used to
register codes in each standard key.
Store the code re-registering key in a
safe place. When necessary, take the
vehicle along with all three keys to a
Yamaha dealer to have them re-regis- tered.
Do not use the key with the red bow for
driving. It should only be used for re-
registering the standard keys. Always
use a standard key for driving.
TIP Keep the standard keys as well as
keys of other immobilizer systems
away from the code re-registering
key.
 Keep other immobilizer system
keys away from the main switch
as they may cause signal interfer-
ence.NOTICE

DEALER IMMEDIATELY IF IT IS
LOST! If the cod e re-registering key
is lost, the existin g stan dar d keys can still b
e used to start the vehicle.
However, re gisterin g a new stan-
d ar d key is impossi ble. If all keys
have been lost or damag ed , the en-
tire immo bilizer system must be re-
place d. Therefore, han dle the keys
carefully.  Do not su bmerse in water.
 Do not expose to hi gh tempera-
tures.
 Do not place near ma gnets.
 Do not place near items that
transmit electrical si gnals.
 Do not han dle rou ghly.
 Do not grin d or alter.
 Do not disassem ble.
 Do not put two keys of any im-
mo bilizer system on the same
key rin g.

transmission is in the neutral position.

This indicator light comes on when the
high beam of the headlight is switched
on.

Oil level warnin g li ght “ ”
This warning light comes on when the
engine oil level is low. To prevent en-
gine damage, replenish the engine oil
as soon as possible.
Even if the oil level is sufficient, the
warning light may flicker when riding
on a slope or during sudden accelera-
tion or deceleration, but this is not a
malfunction. If a problem is detected in
the oil level detection circuit, the oil lev-

warnin g li ght does not come on at
all, use extra caution to avoi d possi-

check the brake system an d electri-
cal circuits as soon as possi ble.

Traction control system in dicator
li g ht “ ”
In normal operation, this indicator light
is off. When traction control has en-
gaged, this indicator light will flash for
a few seconds and then go off.
When the traction control system is
turned off, this indicator light will come
on.
If the traction control system becomes
disabled while riding, or if a problem is
detected in the traction control system,
this indicator light and the engine trou-
ble warning light will come on. (See
page 3-22 for an explanation of the
traction control system.)

This indicator light can be set to come
on and go off at select engine speeds.
(See page 3-17.)TIPWhen the vehicle is turned on, the light
should come on for a few seconds and
then go off. If the light does not come
on, or if the light remains on, have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

Immo bilizer system in dicator

When the key is turned to “OFF” and
30 seconds have passed, the indicator
light will flash steadily to indicate the
immobilizer system is enabled. After 24
hours have passed, the indicator light
will stop flashing, however the immobi-
lizer system is still enabled.
The electrical circuit of the indicator
light can be checked by turning the key
to “ON”. The indicator light should
come on for a few seconds, and then
go off.
If the indicator light does not come on
initially when the key is turned to “ON”,
if the indicator light remains on, or if the
indicator light flashes in a pattern (if a
problem is detected in the immobilizer
system, the immobilizer system indica-
tor light will flash in a pattern), have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

TIPIf the immobilizer system indicator light
flashes in the pattern, slowly 5 times
then quickly 2 times, this could be
caused by transponder interference. If
this occurs, try the following. 1. Make sure there are no other im-
mobilizer keys close to the main
switch. Other immobilizer system
keys may cause signal interfer-
ence and prevent the engine from
starting.
2. Use the code re-registering key to start the engine.
3. If the engine starts, turn it off, and try starting the engine with the
standard keys.
4. If one or both of the standard keys do not start the engine, take the
vehicle and all 3 keys to a Yamaha
dealer to have the standard keys
re-registered.

Cruise control systemThis model is equipped with a cruise
control system designed to maintain a
set cruising speed.
The cruise control system operates
only when riding in 4th, 5th or 6th gear
at speeds between about 50 km/h (31
mi/h) and 160 km/h (100 mi/h).

trol system may result in loss of

cruise control system in heavy
traffic, poor weather con ditions,
or amon g win din g, slippery,

 When travelin g uphill or down-
hill, the cruise control system
may not b e able to maintain the
set cruisin g speed .
 To prevent acci dentally activat-
in g the cruise control system,
turn it off when not in use. Make
sure that the cruise control sys-
tem ind icator light “ ” is off.

TIPThis model is equipped with:  a lean angle sensor. This sensor
stops the engine in case of a vehi-
cle turnover. If this happens, the
engine trouble warning light will
come on, but this is not a malfunc-
tion. Turn the vehicle power off
and then back on again to cancel
the warning light. Failing to do so
will prevent the engine from start-
ing even though the engine will
crank when pushing the start
switch.

engine stops automatically if left
idling for 20 minutes. If the engine
stops, simply push the start
switch to restart the engine.

Startin g the en gineUnder normal conditions, shift the
transmission into neutral before start-
ing the engine. To start the engine with
the transmission in gear, the sidestand
must be up and the clutch lever pulled.
To start the engine1. Set the engine stop switch to “ ”.
2. Turn the main switch to “ ”.
3. Confirm the following lights per-

TIPTo access the ABS motor fuse, remove
the starter relay cover by pulling it up-
ward.
To access fuse box 2, fuse box 3, the
brake light fuse, and the cruise control
fuse, remove panel A. (See page 6-9.)
If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows.1. Turn the main switch off and turn off the electrical circuit in ques-
tion.
2. Remove the blown fuse, and then install a new fuse of the specified
