Steerin g lockThe steering lock is located on the right
side of the vehicle between the upper
and lower steering brackets.
To lock the steerin g
1. Turn the handlebar all the way to the left.
2. Insert the key into the steering lock and turn it 1/2 turn clockwise.
3. Remove the key from the lock.TIPIf the steering lock is difficult to en-
gage, try turning the handlebars back
to the right slightly.
To unlock the steerin g
1. Insert the key into the steering lock.
2. Turn the key 1/2 turn counter- clockwise.
3. Remove the key.

With the engine turned off:
1. Move the sidestand down.
2. Make sure that the start/engine stop switch is set to “ ”.
3. Turn the key on.
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Slide the switch toward “ ”.
Does the engine start?
With the engine still running:
6. Move the sidestand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the sidestand down.
Does the engine stall?
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the sidestand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Slide the switch toward “ ”.
Does the engine start?
The system is OK. The motorcycle can be ridden.

checked by a Yamaha dealer.

gine in case of turnover. In this
case, turn the key “OFF” and then

start the engine. Failing to do so
will prevent the engine from start-
ing even though the engine will
crank when the start switch is

Startin g the en gineIn order for the ignition circuit cut-off
system to enable starting, one of the
following conditions must be met:
The transmission is in the neutral
position.
The transmission is in gear with
the clutch lever pulled and the
sidestand up.

come on when the key is turned to
“ON” and then go off after travel-
ing at a speed of 10 km/h (6 mi/h)
or higher.

warnin g li ght circuit check.2. Shift the transmission into the
neutral position. The neutral indi-
cator light should come on. If not,
ask a Yamaha dealer to check the
electrical circuit.
3. Start the engine by sliding the switch toward “ ”.
If the engine fails to start, release
the start/engine stop switch, wait
a few seconds, and then try again.
Each starting attempt should be
as short as possible to preserve
the battery. Do not crank the en-
gine more than 10 seconds on any
one attempt.

Panel C
To remove the panel
1. Remove the panel A.
2. Slide the panel lock cover open,
insert the key into the lock, and
then turn it 1/4 turn clockwise. 3. Pull the panel off as shown.
To install the panel
1. Place the panel in the original po- sition. 2. Turn the key 1/4 turn counter-
clockwise, remove it, and then
slide the panel lock cover closed.

TIPTo access the ABS motor fuse, remove
the starter relay cover by pulling it up-
ward.
If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows.
1. Turn the key to “OFF” and turn off the electrical circuit in question.
2. Remove the blown fuse, and then install a new fuse of the specified
amperage. WARNING! Do not
use a fuse of a hi gher ampera ge
ratin g than recommen ded to
avoi d causin g extensive d am-

3. Turn the key to “ON” and turn on
the electrical circuit in question to
check if the device operates.
4. If the fuse immediately blows again, have a Yamaha dealer
check the electrical system.
