Owner’s manual and tool kit
You are recommended to put this owner’s manual
and low-pressure tire gauge in the vinyl bag and
always carry them along with the owner’s tool kit
under the seat. The service information included in
this manual is intended to provide you, the owner,
with the necessary information for completing your
own preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
The tools provided in the Owner’s tool kit are suffi-
cient for this purpose, except that a torque wrench
is also necessary to properly tighten nuts and
bolts.NOTE:If you do not have a torque wrench available dur-
ing a service operation requiring one, take your
machine to a Yamaha dealer to check the torque
settings and adjust them as necessary.

ness gauge and, if necessary, adjust the gap
to specification.
2. Clean the gasket surface. Wipe off any grime
from the threads.
3. Install the spark plug and tighten it to the
specified torque.NOTE:_ If a torque wrench is not available when you are in-
stalling a spark plug, a good estimate of the correct
torque is 1/4 to 1/2 turn past finger tight. Have the
spark plug tightened to the specified torque as
soon as possible. _4. Install the spark plug cap.Specified spark plug:

5. Screw in the adjusting bolt on the brake cali-
per by hand until it feels tight, then screw it
out 1/8 turn. Tighten the adjusting bolt locknut
to the specified torque.CAUTION:_ When tightening the locknut, hold the adjust-
ing bolt with a wrench so that the adjusting
bolt does not turn together with the locknut. _
WARNING
_ Operating with improperly adjusted brakes
could cause the brakes to malfunction, result-
ing in reduced braking performance. This
could increase the chance of a collision or ac-
cident. After adjusting the parking brake, block
the rear of the machine off the ground and spin
the rear wheels. Check to make sure there is
no brake drag. If brake drag is noticed, perform
the adjustment again. _
Tightening torque:
Locknut:

To loosen the drive chain, turn the adjusting
bolts in direction
b and push the wheels for-
ward. Turn each adjusting bolt exactly the
same amount to maintain correct axle align-
ment.
There are alignment marks on each side of
the swingarm and on the hub. Use them to
check for proper wheel axle alignment.
3. After adjusting, tighten the adjusting bolt lock-
nuts and the wheel hub nuts to the specified
torques.
