• Do not drive or ride as passenger after using drugs or alcohol.
Prepare your vehicle
Perform the pre-operation checks each time you use the vehicle to make sure it is in safe oper-
ating condition. Failure to inspect or maintain the vehicle properly increases the possibility of an
accident or equipment damage. See page 6-1 for a list of pre-operation checks.
Prepare your load
Carrying heavy or over-sized loads can affect handling, stability, and cause the risk of overturns
or other accidents.
 Read the Loading and Cargo bed sections (page 7-9) before loading the cargo bed.
 Do not overload the vehicle or cargo bed.
 Refer to the labels on the vehicle for specific lo ading limits and recommended tire air pressure.
 Keep heavier objects and the load in general centered side to side, and as low and as far for-
ward in the cargo bed as possible.
 Secure cargo so that it will not shift – a loose load could change handling unexpectedly or be
thrown forward and strike occupants.
 This vehicle is not designed to tow or pull obje cts. Towing a trailer or pulling another vehicle or
other object will affect handling, stability, and increase the risk of overturns and accidents.
Towing or pulling can also cause frame and vehicle damage.

Deactivation point: this function allows you
to select the engine speed at which the light
is deactivated.
To enter shift light control mode1. Turn the key to “ ” (off).
2. Push and hold the “MODE” button.
3. Turn the key to “ ” (on), and then re- lease the “MODE” button after five sec-
onds. After all segments of the display
disappear and the shift light comes on,
the shift light can be adjusted as follows.
To set the flashing pattern1. Push the “RESET” button to select one of the following flashing pattern settings:
On: the shift light stays on when acti-
vated. (The shift light will confirm this
setting by staying on.)
 Flash: the shift light flashes when acti-
vated. (The shift light will confirm this
setting by flashing four times per se-
cond.) 
Off: the shift light is deactivated; in oth-
er words, it does not come on or flash.
(The shift light will confirm this setting
by flashing once every two seconds.)
2. Push the “MODE” button to confirm the
selected flashing pattern. The control
mode then changes to the activation
point setting function. The shift light re-
mains on and the tachometer shows the
current setting r/min for the activation
point.
To set the activation point
TIP The shift light activation point can be set
between 7000 r/min and 12000 r/min. The
activation point can be set in increments of
500 r/min.
 The tachometer needle will start over at
7000 r/min after 12000 r/min.

TIPAdd oil a little at a time so as not to overfill be-
yond the maximum level mark. 7. Check the O-ring for damage, and re-place it if necessary.
8. Install the engine oil tank filler cap.
9. Install the panel.
To change the engine oil 1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove panel D. (See page 9-10.)
3. Remove the engine oil tank cover by re- moving the bolts. 4. Start the engine, warm it up for several
minutes, and then turn it off.
5. Remove the engine oil tank filler cap and the cylinder head cap.

13. Install and tighten the engine oil tank fillercap and the cylinder head cap.
14. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off.
15. Remove the engine oil tank filler cap, and then add sufficient oil of the recommend-
ed type to raise it to the maximum level
mark on the dipstick.
TIPBe sure to wipe off spilled oil on any parts af-
ter the engine and exhaust system have
cooled down. 16. Install and tighten the engine oil tank fillercap.
17. Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes. During this time, check for oil
leakage. If any oil leaks are found, stop
the engine and check for the cause.
18. Stop the engine, wait at least ten minutes, and then check the oil level one last time.
19. Install the engine oil tank cover by install- ing the bolts.
20. Install the panel.
To change the engine oil and oil filter
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Loosen the left and right side panels by removing the bolt as shown.

6. Check the O-ring for damage, and re-place it if necessary.
7. Refill the transmission with the specified amount of the recommended oil.
8. Install the transmission oil filler cap.
9. Start the engine and let it idle while checking for oil leakage.
10. Stop the engine and check the oil level one last time.EBU36055Final gear oilCheck the oil level and change the final gear
oil at the intervals specified in the periodic
maintenance chart.
NOTICEECB03590When checking or changing the final gear
oil, make sure that no foreign material en-
ters the final gear case. If necessary, clean
the final gear oil filler bolt and surrounding
area. Checking the final gear oil level1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove the final gear oil filler bolt and its
gasket, and then check the oil level in the
final gear case. The oil level should be at
the brim of the filler hole.
Tightening torque:Transmission oil drain bolt:20 N·m (2.0 kgf·m, 15 lb·ft)

Oil quantity: 0.47 L (0.50 US qt, 0.41 Imp.qt)
