CanisterThis model is equipped with a canister
to prevent the discharging of fuel vapor
into the atmosphere. Before operating
this vehicle, make sure to check the
following: Check each hose connection.
Check each hose and canister for
cracks or damage. Replace if
damaged.
Make sure that the canister
breather is not blocked, and if
necessary, clean it.

Engine oil and oil filter car-
tridgeThe engine oil level should be checked
before each ride. In addition, the oil
must be changed and the oil filter car-
tridge replaced at the intervals speci-
fied in the periodic maintenance and
lubrication chart.
To check the engine oil level
1. Place the vehicle on a level surfa- ce and hold it in an upright posi-
tion. A slight tilt to the side can
result in a false reading.
2. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it
off.
3. Wait a few minutes for the oil level to settle for an accurate reading,
and then check the oil level
through the check window locat-
ed at the bottom-left side of the
crankcase.TIPThe engine oil should be between the
minimum and maximum level marks.
4. If the engine oil is at or below theminimum level mark, add suffi-
cient oil of the recommended type
to raise it to the correct level.TIPCheck the oil filler cap O-ring for dam-
age, and replace it if necessary.To change the engine oil1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it
off.
2. Place an oil pan under the engine to collect the used oil.

NOTICE

The IMU is located under the bat-
tery. It is not user serviceable and
very sensitive, so we advise against
removing the battery box or han-
dling the IMU directly. Do not remove, modify, or place
any foreign materials in or
around the battery box.
Do not subject the IMU to
strong shocks and be careful
when handling the battery.
Do not obstruct the IMU breath-
er hole and do not clean it with
compressed air.This model is equipped with a VRLA
(Valve Regulated Lead Acid) battery.
There is no need to check the electro-
lyte or to add distilled water. However,
the battery lead connections need to
be checked and, if necessary, tight-
ened.
WARNING

Electrolyte is poisonous and
dangerous since it contains sul-
furic acid, which causes severe
burns. Avoid any contact with
skin, eyes or clothing and al-
ways shield your eyes when
working near batteries. In case
of contact, administer the fol-
lowing FIRST AID.
• EXTERNAL: Flush with plenty of water.
• INTERNAL: Drink large quan- tities of water or milk and im-
mediately call a physician.
• EYES: Flush with water for 15 minutes and seek prompt
medical attention.
Batteries produce explosive hy-
drogen gas. Therefore, keep
sparks, flames, cigarettes, etc.,
away from the battery and pro-
vide sufficient ventilation when
charging it in an enclosed
space.
KEEP THIS AND ALL BATTER-
IES OUT OF THE REACH OF
CHILDREN.
To charge the battery
Have a Yamaha dealer charge the bat-
tery as soon as possible if it seems to
ha v e di s c ha r g e d. Ke e p in m in d t ha t t he
battery tends to discharge more quick-
ly if the vehicle is equipped with op-
tional electrical accessories.NOTICE

To charge a VRLA (Valve Regulated
Lead Acid) battery, a special (con-
stant-voltage) battery charger is re-
quired. Using a conventional battery
charger will damage the battery.To store the battery
1. If the vehicle will not be used for more than one month, remove the
battery, fully charge it, and then
place it in a cool, dry place.
NOTICE: When removing the
battery, be sure to turn the main

8wheels a little once a month in or-
der to prevent the tires from be-
coming degraded in one spot.
9. Cover the muffler outlet with a plastic bag to prevent moisture
from entering it.
10. Remove the battery and fully char- ge it, or attach a maintenance
charger to keep the battery opti-
mally charged. NOTICE: Confirm
that the battery and its charger
are compatible. Do not charge a
VRLA battery with a convention-
al charger.

TIP If the battery will be removed,
charge it once a month and store
it in a temperate location between
0-30 °C (32-90 °F).
