REFUELLINGOnly refuel with unleaded petrol with octane rating (RON) not less than 95, in compliance with the European specification EN228. In particular, the engine of
Alfa 4C has been designed to comply with all emission limits while simultaneously guaranteeing minimal consumption and maximum performance, using
premium-quality unleaded petrol with octane rating (RON) 98 or higher. The use of petrol that does not conform to the specification indicated may cause the
Uwarning light to switch on and the irregular operation of the engine.
STARTING THE ENGINEMake sure that the handbrake is engaged. Press the brake pedal and, without pressing the accelerator, turn the ignition key to AVV;
release it as soon as the engine has started.
PARKING ON FLAMMABLE MATERIALThe catalytic converter develops high temperatures during operation. Do not park the vehicle on grass, dry leaves,
pine needles or other flammable material: risk of fire.
ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIESIf, after buying the vehicle, you decide to add electrical accessories (with the risk of gradually draining the battery), contact a Alfa Romeo Dealership.
They can calculate the overall electrical requirement and check that the vehicle’s electric system can support the required load.
SCHEDULED SERVICINGCorrect maintenance of the car is essential for ensuring it stays in tip-top condition and safeguards its safety features, its environmental friendliness
and low running costs for a long time to come.
IN THE OWNER HANDBOOK… you will find information, tips and important warnings regarding the safe, driving and looking after your car properly.
Pay particular attention to the symbols (personal safety) (environmental protection) (car safety).
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENTThe car is fitted with a system that carries out a continuous diagnosis of the emission related components in order to help
protect the environment.

Warning lights on panelMeaning What to do
In this case release the accelerator pedal to lower the
engine speed until the warning light stops flashing.
Continue the journey at moderate speed, trying to avoid
driving conditions that may cause further flashing and
contact a dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership as soon as
possible.
If the Uwarning light flashes, it means that the catalytic
converter may be damaged.
3)
Under these conditions, the vehicle can continue travelling
at moderate speed without demanding excessive effort
from the engine. Prolonged use of the car with the warning
light on constantly may cause damage.
Contact a dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership as soon as
possible. INJECTION / EOBD SYSTEM FAILURE
In normal conditions, when the ignition key is turned to
MAR the Uwarning light switches on, but it should
switch off as soon as the engine is started.
The operation of the Uwarning light may be checked by
traffic police using appropriate equipment.
Comply with the laws and regulations of the country
where you are driving.
If the Uwarning light stays on or switches on when
driving, it means that the injection system is not working
properly; in particular, if the warning light comes on
constantly, this indicates a malfunction in the
supply/ignition system that could cause excessive
exhaust emissions, a possible loss of performance, poor
driveability and high fuel consumption.
On some versions the display shows the dedicated
message.
The Uwarning light switches off if the malfunction
disappears, but is still stored by the system.

STARTING AND DRIVING
68
STARTING THE ENGINE
Before starting the engine, adjust the
seat, the interior rear view mirrors, the
door mirrors and fasten the seat belt
correctly. Never press the accelerator
pedal for starting the engine.
Procedure
73) 74) 75) 5)
The metal insert 1 fig. 2 operates:
❒ press the brake pedal;
❒ turn the ignition key to AVV and
release it as soon as the engine starts.
If the engine does not start at the first
attempt, return the ignition key to STOP
before repeating the starting procedure.
❒ If, when the ignition key is at MAR, the
instrument panel warning light stays on
together with the warning light, turn the
key to STOP and then back to MAR; if the
warning light stays on, try the other keys
provided with the vehicle. If it is still not
possible to start the engine, contact a
dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership.
❒ Do not leave the ignition key at MAR
when the engine is stopped.
SWITCHING OFF THE ENGINE
Procedure
Turn the ignition key to STOP while the
engine is idling.
6) 7)
73)It is dangerous to run the engine in
enclosed areas. The engine takes in
oxygen and releases carbon dioxide,
carbon monoxide and other toxic gases.
74)The brake servo is not active until the
engine is started, so you would need to
apply much more force than usual to the
brake pedal.
75)Do not start the engine by pushing,
towing or driving downhill. These
manoeuvres may damage the catalytic
converter.
IMPORTANT
5)It is advisable not to demand maximum
performance from your car (e.g. excessive
acceleration, long distances at maximum
rpm, excessively intense braking, etc.)
when it is first used.
6)When the engine is switched off never
leave the ignition device in the MAR
position to prevent useless current
absorption from draining the battery.
7)A quick burst on the accelerator before
stopping the engine serves no practical
purpose; it wastes fuel and is especially
damaging to turbocharged engines.

REFUELLING THE CAR
The car features the “Fast Fuel” system,
which prevents refuelling with incorrect
fuels (e.g. diesel for a petrol engine).
Stop the engine before refuelling.
Only refuel with unleaded petrol with
octane rating (RON) not less than 95, in
compliance with the European
specification EN228. In particular, the
engine of Alfa 4C has been designed to
comply with all emission limits while
simultaneously guaranteeing minimal
consumption and maximum performance,
using premium-quality unleaded petrol
with octane rating (RON) 98 or higher.
In order to prevent damage to the
catalytic converter never introduce even
the smallest amount of leaded petrol,
even in the event of an emergency.
IMPORTANT An inefficient catalytic
converter leads to harmful exhaust
emissions, thus contributing to air
pollution.
FILLING THE TANK
To ensure that you fill the tank
completely, top up twice after the first
click of the fuel supply gun. Further top-
ups could cause faults in the fuel feeding
system.
REFUELLING PROCEDURE
The car features a “Fast Fuel” device,
integrated with the opening for the fuel
tank: it opens and recloses automatically
when the fuel supply gun is
inserted/removed.
The “Fast Fuel” device is provided with an
inhibitor which prevents refuelling with
incorrect fuel.
The refuelling procedure described below
is illustrated on the label
fig. 51 located inside the fuel flap.
The label also indicates the fuel type
(UNLEADED FUEL=petrol).
Procedure
❒ open flap 1 fig. 52, pulling it outwards;
❒ introduce the dispenser in the filler
and refuel;
❒ after refuelling, before removing the
dispenser, wait for at least 10 seconds in
order for the fuel to flow inside the tank;
❒ then remove the dispenser from the
filler and close flap 1.
The flap is provided with a dust boot 2
which prevents the introduction of dirt
and dust into the end of the filling when
the flap is closed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
CIGAR LIGHTER
The cigar lighter gets very hot. Handle it carefully and make sure that children don’t use it: risk of fire and/or burns.
ASHTRAY
Do not use the ashtray as a waste paper basket: it may catch fire in contact with cigarette stubs.
WHEELS AND TYRES
The road holding qualities of the car also depend on the correct inflation pressure of the tyres. If tyre pressure is too low, the tyre may
overheat and be severely damaged as a result.
Do not switch tyres from the left to the right side and vice versa, in order to prevent inversion of the rotation direction.
Do not repaint alloy wheel rims at temperatures higher than 150°C.
The mechanical characteristics of the wheels might be compromised.
The car is always equipped with front and rear wheels of different dimensions. It is not therefore possible to move the wheels from the
front to the back and vice versa.
ACCESSORIES PURCHASED BY THE OWNER
Take care when fitting additional spoilers or non-standard alloy wheels: they could reduce the ventilation of the brakes and affect
efficiency in sharp, repeated braking or on long descents. Make sure that nothing obstructs the pedal stroke (mats, etc.).
CATALYTIC SILENCER
Under operating conditions, the catalytic converter becomes very hot. Therefore, do not park the car on flammable materials
(grass, dry leaves, pine needles etc.) to avoid the risk of fire.
