20)If, when the key is turned to MAR, the ¬warning light does not come on or if it stays on with the vehicle in motion (together with the
message on the display) there could be a failure in the safety systems; under these circumstances the airbags or pretensioners may not be
triggered in the event of an impact or, more rarely, they could be triggered accidentally. Before proceeding, contact a dedicated Alfa Romeo
Dealership to have the system checked immediately.
21)Failure of the
¬warning light is signalled by the flashing for longer than the usual 4 seconds of the “warning light. In addition, the airbag
system automatically disables the passenger side airbag. In this case, the ¬warning light may not indicate failures in the retaining systems.
Before proceeding, contact a dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership to have the system checked immediately.
22)A failure of the
“warning light is indicated by the ¬warning light. In addition, the airbag system automatically disables the passenger
side airbag.
23)Deteriorated engine oil should be replaced as soon as possible after the digital warning light comes on, and never more than 500 km after it
first switches on. Failure to observe the above may result in severe damage to the engine and invalidate the warranty. Remember that when the
digital warning light comes on, it does not mean that the level of engine oil is low, so if it flashes you must not top up the engine oil.
24)If the warning light flashes with the car in motion, contact the dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership.
IMPORTANT
3)If, when the ignition key is turned to MAR, the warning light does not turn on or if it turns on constantly or flashes when travelling
(on certain versions, together with the message on the display), contact a dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership as soon as possible.

gearbox/transmission management system operation and engine oil degradation
Check and, if necessary, top up oil level for the
twin clutch transmission

Replace engine oil and oil filter (3)
Change brake fluid (or every 24 months)
(1) The following are essential to ensure correct operation and prevent serious damage to the engine: only use spark plugs of the same make and type
which are specially certified for such engines (see the information in the “Engine” paragraph in the “Technical specifications” chapter); strictly
comply with the spark plug replacement interval given in the Scheduled Servicing Plan; for spark plug replacement, it is advisable to contact a
dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership.
(2) Irrespective of the mileage, the timing drive belt must be replaced every 4 years for heavy-duty use
(cold climates, town use, long periods of idling) or, in any case, every 5 years.
(3) The actual interval for changing the oil and replacing the engine oil filter depends on the car usage conditions and is signalled by the warning light
or message (where provided) or the instrument panel or, in any case, every 12 months.

PERIODIC CHECKS
Every 1,000 km or before long journeys,
check and, if necessary, top up the
following:
❒ engine coolant level;
❒ brake fluid;
❒ windscreen washer fluid;
❒ tyre inflation pressure and condition;
❒ operation of lighting system
(headlights, direction indicators, hazard
warning lights, etc.);
❒ operation of windscreen
washing/wiping system and
positioning/wear of wiper blade.
Every 3,000 km check and top up if
required: engine oil level.
IMPORTANT To find out the correct oil
quantity, always check using the dipstick.
Carry out the check with the vehicle
parked on level ground.
DEMANDING USE OF THE CAR
If the vehicle is used mainly under one of
the following conditions:
❒ trailer or caravan towing;
❒ dusty roads;
❒ short repeated distances (less than
7-8 km) and with external temperatures
below zero;
❒ engine often idling or driving long
distances at low speeds or long periods
of inactivity;
❒ you should perform the following
inspections more frequently than shown
in the Scheduled Servicing Plan:
❒ check front disk brake pad conditions
and wear;
❒ check cleanness of locks, bonnet and
boot and lever cleanness and lubrication;
❒ visually inspect condition of: engine,
gearbox, transmission, pipes and hoses
(exhaust - fuel system - brakes) and
rubber elements (gaiters - sleeves -
bushes - etc.);
❒ check battery charge and battery fluid
level (electrolyte);❒ visually inspect conditions of the
accessory drive belts;
❒ check and, if necessary, change engine
oil and replace oil filter;
❒ check air cleaner and replace it, if
required.
Using the car on track should be regarded
as an exception. The car has been
designed and produced for road use.

CHECKING LEVELS
The topping-up plug 2 and the dipstick 1 for checking the engine oil level and the reservoir 3 for the engine coolant can be accessed
by lifting the tailgate (see the procedure in the “Boot/Bonnet” paragraph in the “Knowing your car” chapter).

ENGINE OIL
Check that the oil level is between the
MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick
1 fig. 87.
For this check, take out the dipstick from
its seat, clean it with a lint-free cloth,
reinsert the dipstick; take it out again and
check the oil level.

If the oil level is near or under the MIN
mark, add oil through the filler 2 fig. 87
until it reaches the MAX mark.

Tool 1 shown in fig. 89 and stored in the
car, must be used to
undo and refasten the filler cap.
Take out the engine oil dipstick 1 fig. 87,
clean it with a lint-free cloth  and reinsert
it. Extract the engine oil dipstick again
and check that the level is between the
MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick.

WARNING Make sure that the oil cap is
tightened properly in its seat after
topping the oil up.
After refitting the cap, remove tool 1 fig.
89 before closing the bonnet and place it
back in the housing to prevent misplacing
it and avoid the risk of causing damage to
the engine.
The range between the MIN and MAX
levels corresponds to approximately 1
litre of oil.

Engine oil consumption

The maximum engine oil consumption is
usually 400 grams every
1000 km.
When the car is new, the engine needs to
be run in; therefore the engine oil
consumption can only be considered
stabilised after the first
5,000 - 6,000 km.
IMPORTANT After adding or changing
the oil, let the engine run for a few
seconds and wait a few minutes after
switching it off before checking the level.
ENGINE COOLANT FLUID

The coolant level must be checked when
the engine is cold and must range
between the MIN and MAX marks on the
reservoir.
If the level is too low, unscrew reservoir
plug 3 fig. 87 and add the fluid described
in the “Fluids and lubricants” paragraph of
the “Technical Specifications” chapter.

To position again the soft top on the car,
proceed as follows:
❒ open the doors;
❒ take the soft top from the luggage
compartment and place it in the centre
line; the front side can be recognised by
the presence of the safety visor fig. 110;
❒ unroll the soft top inserting it under
the spoiler and making sure that it is
correctly positioned;
❒ turn the rail upwards and insert in the
side centring pins of the soft top in the
respective housings
fig. 113 on the car being careful to insert
the front pin and the rear pin;❒ press the side devices 2 inwards
fig. 114 and turn the rail downwards;
❒ leave the handles and complete the
rail rotation pressing it until you hear the
closing click of the lock;
❒ check that the devices 2 are
completely closed fig. 115;
❒ proceed in the same way for the other
side of the soft top;

❒ position the two central devices
1 fig. 110 in the suitable housing inside the
car and rotate them by ¼ turn clockwise
to lock them. Check the correct insertion of
the pins into their seats and make sure the
grab ring is in horizontal position.
The fixing is carried out correctly and the
soft top is ensured only when the ring is
located in a horizontal position
(not vertical, or at 45°).
IMPORTANT NOTES
❒ It is advisable to install the soft top
after parking the car.
The closed top effectively protects the
car from rain and from theft.
