SWITCHING OFF THE ALARM
Press the Ëbutton. The following operations are performed (ex-
cluding some versions for specific markets):
❍the direction indicators flash twice;
❍two brief acoustic signals are emitted;
❍the doors are unlocked.
IMPORTANT If the central door locking system is engaged using the
metal insert of the key, the alarm is not disabled.
VOLUME SENSING/ ANTI-TILT PROTECTION
To guarantee the correct operation of the protection, close the side
windows and any sunroof completely (where provided).
To disable the function press button A-fig. 20 before activating
the alarm. The deactivation of the function is indicated by the
LED on button A flashing for several seconds.
Any disabling of the volume sensing/anti-tilt protection must be
repeated each time the instrument panel is switched off.
DISABLING THE ALARM
To permanently disable the alarm (e.g. during a lengthy period
of idleness), lock the vehicle by turning the metal insert of the key
with remote control in the lock.
IMPORTANT If the battery of the key with the remote control goes
flat or the system fails, the alarm can be switched off by placing
the key in the ignition switch and turning it to MAR.

ELECTRIC SUNROOF
(where provided)
The extensively glazed sun roof comprises a moving glass panel
and a sun blind. The glazed panel, when closed, allows light from
the outside to enter and makes it possible to see the outside from
the passenger compartment.
When it opens the front glass panel slides towards the outside of
the roof.
OPERATION
The sun roof is operated by pressing buttons A and B-fig. 53 located
on the trim next to the middle courtesy light.
The sun roof can only be operated with the ignition key in the MAR
position.
Roof opening
Pressing button A-fig. 53 allows two opening modes for the front glass
panel.
Automatic
If button A-fig. 53 is pressed for a while, the front glass panel is raised
from completely closed to the spoiler position. If the button is pressed
again, the panel starts to slide backwards until it is completely open.
After the initial opening command the glass panel can be stopped in
intermediate positions by pressing the button again.
Manual
If button A-fig. 53 is pressed briefly, the front glass panel moves from
the completely closed position and stops in the position where the but-
ton is released. In this case the panel opens by pressing the actual
button.
This function makes it possible to place the front panel in intermedi-
ate positions in relation to those produced through automatic open-
ing.

1The sun roof must stay closed if a transverse roof
rack is fitted.Sun blind
The brightness in the passenger compartment can be adjusted by
using a sun blind.
To open/close the blind, grasp the handle C-fig. 53. The blind can
be closed irrespective of the opening position of the glass panel.
Roof closing
Pressing button B-fig. 53 allows two closing modes for the front
glass panel.
Automatic
With the roof completely open, press button B-fig. 53 for a while:
the front glass panel will assume the spoiler position.
If the button is then pressed, the panel will start to slide forward
until it is completely closed.
After the initial opening command, the glass panel can be stopped
in intermediate positions by pressing the button again.
Manual
If button B-fig. 53 is pressed briefly, the front glass panel moves
from the completely open position and stops in the position where
the button is released. In this case the panel closes by pressing
the actual button.
This function makes it possible to place the front glass panel in in-
termediate positions in relation to those produced through auto-
matic closing.
When leaving the car, always remove the key from
the ignition device to avoid the risk of injury due
to accidental operation of the sun roof; it presents
a risk to those left on board: improper use of the roof can
be dangerous. Before operation, always check that no-
one is at risk of being injured by the moving sun roof or
by objects getting caught and dragged by it.
Do not open the sun roof in the presence of snow
or ice: it may be damaged.

ROOF CLOSING SAFETY DEVICES
(anti-crush function)
The anti-crush safety system, which conforms to Directive
2000/4/CE, is activated during the horizontal and vertical clos-
ing stage of the panel after an obstacle is encountered (e.g. fin-
ger, hand):
❍during the horizontal closing movement it is activated for the
entire travel and after an obstacle is encountered at the front
of the glass panel the movement is reversed;
❍during the vertical closing movement it is activated and after
an obstacle is encountered at the back of the glass panel the
movement is reversed until the spoiler position is reached.
The possibility of crushing from inside the passenger compartment
in the side areas of the panel is prevented through the adoption
of side guards that deny access to the risk areas.
IMPORTANT The anti-crush safety system is deactivated by press-
ing button B-fig. 53 continuously.
MAINTENANCE/EMERGENCY
In case of emergency or maintenance the roof can be moved man-
ually when there is no power supply (opening/closing of the front
glass panel) by carrying out the following operations:
❍remove the protective cap A-fig. 55 located in the middle of
the roof;
❍take the Allen key B supplied which can be found together with
the on board documentation;
❍introduce the key into housing C and turn it:
– clockwise, to open the roof;
– anti-clockwise, to close the roof.

❍lower the bonnet to about 20 centimetres above the engine
compartment and then let it drop. Make sure that the bonnet
is closed correctly and not just in the safety position by trying
to lift it. If it is not perfectly closed, open the bonnet and re-
peat the procedure. Do not simply press it.
IMPORTANT Always check that the bonnet is closed properly to avoid
its opening while the car is travelling.ROOF RACK/SKI RACK
To fit the roof rack/ski rack, raise the special tabs A-fig. 68 using
the screwdriver provided to access attachment housings B.
The bonnet must always be perfectly closed while
travelling for safety reasons. Make sure that the
bonnet is perfectly closed and that the lock is en-
gaged. If when driving you realise that the bonnet is not
properly closed, stop immediately and close the bonnet
correctly.
Carry out these operations with the vehicle at a
standstill.
If the support rod is incorrectly positioned this may
cause the bonnet to fall down without warning.

After having travelled several kilometres check that
the attachment retaining bolts are still securely fas-
tened.
Distribute the load uniformly and when driving
take into consideration the increased sensitivity
to transverse air currents.
Always obey local legislation regarding maximum
load size.
Never exceed the maximum permitted load.
The Lineaccessori Alfa Romeo includes a dedicated roof rack/ski
rack for this vehicle.HEADLIGHTS
ADJUSTING THE LIGHT BEAM
The correct orientation of the headlights is important for the dri-
ver’s comfort and safety as well as for all other road users. It is al-
so a specific rule of the highway code.
The headlights must be correctly directed to ensure the best visi-
bility conditions for all drivers. To check and, if necessary, adjust
the alignment contact an Alfa Romeo Authorised Service.

1RADIO WIRING SYSTEM
(where provided)
If no radio was requested at the time of purchase, the vehicle is
provided with a double oddment compartment on the dashboard
fig. 71.
The radio wiring system is composed of:
❍radio power supply cables, front and rear loudspeakers and
an aerial;
❍car radio housing;
❍an aerial on the vehicle roof.
fig. 71A0J0087m
The radio should be fitted in the dedicated compartment A-fig.
71, which should be removed by pressing on the two retaining tabs
in the compartment: the power supply cables can be found here.
When connecting a car radio to the radio wiring
contact an Alfa Romeo Authorised Service to pre-
vent any faults from occurring that might com-
promise the safety of your vehicle.

RADIO TRANSMITTERS AND CELLULAR PHONES
Radio sets (e.g. mobile phones, CB radio systems and the like)
cannot be used inside the car unless a separate aerial is mounted
on the roof.
IMPORTANT The use of these devices inside the passenger com-
partment (without a separate aerial) may cause the vehicle elec-
trical systems to malfunction. This could compromise safety in ad-
dition to constituting a potential hazard for passengers.
In addition, transmission and reception of these devices may be af-
fected by the shielding effect of the car body. With regards to the
use of EC-approved mobile phones (GSM, GPRS, UMTS), adhere
strictly to the instructions for use provided by the mobile phone
manufacturer.
PARKING SENSORS
(where provided)
The parking sensors are located in the rear bumper fig. 73 and their
function is to inform the driver, through an intermittent buzzer, of
the presence of obstacles behind the car.
ACTIVATION
The sensors are activated by engaging reverse gear. As the distance
from the obstacle behind the car decreases, the acoustic alarm
becomes more frequent.

142SAFETY
FRONT AIRBAGS
The vehicle is equipped with multi-stage front air bags (“Smart
bag”) for the driver and passenger and knee air bag for the dri-
ver.
“SMART BAG” SYSTEM
(MULTISTAGE FRONT AIR BAGS)
The front airbags (driver’s and passenger’s) and the driver knee
air bag have been designed to protect the occupants in the event
of head-on crashes of medium-high severity, by placing the cush-
ion between the occupant and the steering wheel or dashboard.
The air bag do not replace, but rather compliment the use of seat
belts, which should always be worn. In the event of a collision, a
person not wearing a seat belt may be thrown forward and come
into contact with the bag before it has fully opened. The protection
offered by the bag is reduced in such a case.
Front airbags may not be activated in the following situations:
❍in collisions against highly deformable objects not affecting the
car front surface (e.g. bumper collision against guard rail, etc.);
❍car penetration under other vehicles or protective barriers (e.g.
trucks or guard rails);
in these instances they could not provide any additional protec-
tion compared with seat belts, so their deployment would not be
useful. Non deployment in such cases does not constitute a fault.
FRONT AIRBAG ON DRIVER’S SIDE fig. 15
This is located in a dedicated compartment in the centre of the steer-
ing wheel.
Do not apply stickers or other objects on the steer-
ing wheel, passenger side airbag cover or side up-
holstery on roof. Do not place objects on the pas-
senger side dashboard because these could interfere with
the correct opening of the airbag and cause severe in-
jury to occupants.
