on boats.Wheel replacement procedure
To change a wheel, proceed as follows:
stop the car in a position that is not
dangerous for oncoming traffic where
you can change the wheel safely. The
ground must be flat and sufficiently
compact;
switch off the engine, pull up the
handbrake and engage the 1stgear or
reverse. Wear the reflective safety jacket
(compulsory by law) before getting out of
the vehicle;
open the luggage compartment, lift
the mat using the tab provided 1 fig. 96;
unscrew locking device 1 fig. 97, take
toolbox 2 and bring it next to the wheel to
replace. Then take the space-saver wheel
3;
for versions with steel rims: insert
the screwdriver in the opening 1 fig. 98 in
order to trigger the hub cap retaining clip
2;
for versions with alloy rims: shake the
car to facilitate detachment of the rim
from the wheel hub. Some versions may
be fitted with alloy wheels with a hub cap
fig. 99. To remove the hub cap, insert the
screwdriver into housings 1 in order to
access the fixing bolts. Replace the wheel

take the wrench 1 fig. 100 and loosen
the fixing bolts by about one turn;
position the jack under the car, near
the wheel to be changed. On versions
where this is fitted, be careful not to
damage the plastic aerodynamic guard;
operate the device 1 fig. 101 so as to
raise the jack, until the upper part 2
fig. 102 is correctly inserted in the side
member 3 at the point indicated by the
arrow
;
alert any bystander that the vehicle is
about to be raised; all persons should be
kept away from the vehicle and nobody
must touch it until it has been lowered;
fit handle 4 fig. 101 into the housing in
device 1, operate the jack and raise the
vehicle until the wheel is a few
centimetres from the ground;
make sure the contact surfaces
between space-saver wheel and hub are
clean so that the fastening bolts will not
come loose;
fit the space-saver wheel by inserting
the first bolt for two threads into the hole
closest to the valve;
take the wrench 1 fig. 100 and fully
tighten the fixing bolts;
operate the jack handle 4 fig. 101 to
lower the car. Then extract the jack;
use the wrench 1 provided to fully
tighten the bolts in a criss-cross fashion
as per the numerical sequence illustrated
in fig. 103;
when replacing an alloy wheel it is
advisable to place it upside down, with
the aesthetic part facing upwards.

IMPORTANT
30)When turning the jack handle make sure
that it can turn freely without scraping your
hand against the ground. The moving
components of the jack ("worm screw" and
joints) can also cause injuries: avoid touching
them. If you come into contact with
lubricating grease, clean yourself
thoroughly.
31)Contact an Alfa Romeo Dealership as
soon as possible to have the correct
tightening of the wheel bolts checked.
