The automatic lighting f eature is
controlledbyasensorlocatedontop
of the dashboard. Do not cover this
sensor or spill liquids on it. Even with the automatic lighting
f eature turned on, we recommend
thatyouturnonthelightsmanually
when driving at night or in a dense
f og, or when you enter dark areas
such as long tunnels or parking
f acilities. To turn on automatic lighting, turn
the light switch to AUTO. The lights
will come on automatically when the
outside light level becomes low (at
dusk, f or example). The lights on
indicator comes on as a reminder.
The lights and indicator will turn of f
automatically when the system
senses high ambient light.To change the ‘‘AUTO LIGHT
SENSITIVITY’’ setting, see page
. The automatic lighting
f eature turns on the headlights, all
other exterior lights, and the
instrument panel lights when it
senses low ambient light.
The lights will remain on when you
turn of f the ignition switch. They will
turn of f automatically when you open
and close the driver’s door. To turn
them on again, either turn the
ignition switch to the ON (II)
position or turn the light switch to
the position.Do not leave the light switch in
AUTO if you will not be driving the
vehicle f or an extended period (a
weekormore).Youshouldalsoturn
of f the lights if you plan to leave the

The engine may not start if the
remote is subjected to strong radio
waves.
Also, the engine may not start if the
remote is too close to the windows. The engine may not run, and some
malf unctions may occur, if the
remote is:
Outside the vehicle.
On the dashboard.
On the rear interior panel.
In the glove box.
In the door pockets.
In the trunk, etc.

The outside air intakes f or the
climate control system are at the
base of the windshield. Keep this
area clear of leaves and other debris.
Thesystemshouldbeleftinfresh
air mode under almost all conditions.
Keeping the system in recirculation
mode, particularly with the A/C of f ,
can cause the windows to fog up.
Switch to recirculation mode when
driving through dusty or smoky
conditions, then return to fresh air
mode.This button turns the windshield
def roster on and of f .
You can select the vents air flows
f rom. Some air will f low f rom the
dashboard corner and side vents in
all modes. When you push this button, air f lows
f rom the def roster vents at the base
of the windshield, and the system
automatically switches to f resh air
mode and turns on the A/C. When
the indicator in the button is on, the
passenger’s temperature cannot be
set separately f rom the driver’s. When the indicator in the button is
on, air f rom the vehicle’s interior is
sent throughout the system again.
When the indicator is off, air is
brought in f rom the outside of the
vehicle (fresh air mode).
Pushing this button also turns the
power mirror heaters on and of f . This button turns the rear window
def ogger on and of f (see page ).147

Use the mode control button to
select the vents the air flows from.
Some air will flow from the
dashboard vents in all modes.
Press the A/C button to view the
climate control display, then push
the interf ace selector down. Select
any of the modes by turning the
interf ace knob.

Air conditioning, as it cools, removes
moisture from the air. When used in
combination with the heater, it
makes the interior warm and dry.
Switch the f an on.
Turn on the air conditioning.
Select and fresh air mode.
Adjust the temperature to your
pref erence.
This setting is suitable f or all driving
conditions whenever the outside
temperature is above 32°F (0°C).To remove f og f rom the inside of the
windows:
Set the f an to the desired speed, or
high f or f aster def rosting.
Select . The system
automatically switches to f resh air
mode and turns on the A/C.
Adjust the temperature so the
airf low f eels warm.
Select to help clear the
rear window.
To increase airf low to the
windshield, close the corner vents.
When you switch to another mode
from , the A/C setting
returns to the previous setting (on or
of f ). Select A/C, then press ENTER
on the interface selector to turn the
A/C of f if it is on.Select . The system
automatically switches to fresh air
mode and turns on the A/C.

Set the f an and temperature
controls to maximum level.
To clear the windshield f aster, you
can close the dashboard corner vents
by rotating the wheel next to it. This
sends more warm air to the
windshield def roster vents. Once the
windshield is clear, select the f resh
air mode to avoid fogging the
windows.

a clear view through all the windows

The security system helps to protect
your vehicle and valuables f rom thef t.
The horn sounds and a combination
of headlights, parking/side marker
lights, and taillights f lash if someone
attempts to break into your vehicle
or remove the audio unit. This alarm
continues f or 2 minutes, then the
system resets. To deactivate the
system bef ore the 2 minutes have
elapsed, unlock either f ront door
with the remote or the built-in key.
The security system automatically
sets 15 seconds after you lock the
doors, close the hood, and close the
trunk. For the system to activate,
you must lock the doors f rom the
outside with the remote, built-in key,
lock tab, or master door lock switch.
The security system indicator on the
instrument panel starts blinking
immediately to show you the system
is setting itself .Once the security system sets,
opening any door, the trunk, or hood
without using the built-in key or the
keyless access remote, will cause the
alarm to activate. It also activates if
the ignition switch is turned to the
ON (II) position, the audio unit is
removed f rom the dashboard, or the
wiring is cut.
With the system set, you can still
open the trunk with the remote
without triggering the alarm. Thealarm will sound if the trunk lock is
f orced, or the trunk is opened with
the trunk release button on the
driver’s door or the emergency trunk
opener.
The security system does not set if
any door, the trunk, or hood is not
f ully closed. Bef ore you leave the
vehicle, make sure the doors, trunk
and hood are securely closed.
To see if the system sets af ter you
exit the vehicle, press the LOCK
button on the keyless access remote
within f ive seconds. If the system is
set, the horn will beep once.
Do not attempt to alter this system
or add other devices to it.

Park the vehicle, and set the
parking brake. Pull the hood
release lever located under the
lower lef t corner of the dashboard.
The hood will pop up slightly. Your vehicle’s on board diagnostic
system will detect a loose or missing
f uel f ill cap as an evaporative system
leak. The f irst time a leak is detected
a ‘‘TIGHTEN FUEL CAP’’ message
appears on the multi-inf ormation
display. Turn the engine of f , and
conf irm the f uel f ill cap is installed. If
it is, loosen it, then retighten it until
it clicks at least once. The message
should go of f af ter several days of
normal driving once you tighten orreplace the f uel f ill cap. To scroll to
another message, press the INFO
button. The ‘‘TIGHTEN FUEL CAP’’
message will appear each time you
restart the engine until the system
turns the message of f .
If the system still detects a leak in
the vehicle’s evaporative emissions
system, the malf unction indicator
lamp (MIL) comes on. If the f uel f ill
cap was not already tightened, turn
the engine of f , and check or
retighten the f uel f ill cap until it
clicks at least once. The MIL should
go off after several days of normal
driving once the cap is tightened or
replaced. If the MIL does not go of f ,
have your vehicle inspected by a
dealer. For more inf ormation, see

If equipped
The collision mitigation braking
system (CMBS ) can assist the
driver when there is a possibility of
colliding with the vehicle in f ront of
yours. It is designed to reduce the
speed of your vehicle bef ore an
unavoidable collision occurs and, if
possible, to alert you to a potential
collision while there is time f or the
driver to prevent it. Here is a brief
description of what the CMBS can
do:When your speed is above 10 mph
(15 km/h), the CMBS is monitoring
the vehicle ahead of you with radar.
When your vehicle is approaching
the vehicle ahead of yours too
quickly, the system may activate one
or more of the f ollowing: a visual
alert, an audible alert, apply the
brakes and e-pretensioners to
tighten the front seat belts first as
a warning, then to prepare for an
impending crash (see page ).
The CMBS consists of a radar
sensor in the f ront grille, a brake
actuator in the engine compartment,
an indicator on the instrument panel,
seat belt e-pretensioners on the f ront
seats,andanon/off buttononthe
