Make sure the rear window is clear

The def ogger and antenna wires on
the inside of the rear window can be
accidentally damaged. When
cleaning the glass, always wipe side
to side.
The rear window def ogger will clear
fog, frost, and thin ice from the
window. Push the def ogger button to
turn it on and of f . The light in the
button lights to show the def ogger is
on. If you do not turn it of f , the
def ogger will shut itself of f af ter
about15minutes.Italsoshutsoff
when you turn of f the ignition. You
have to turn it on again when you

Make any steering wheel adjustment

To adjust the steering wheel upward
or downward:Push the lever under the steering
column all the way down.
Move the steering wheel to the
desired position, making sure the
wheel points toward your chest,
not toward your f ace. Make sure
you can see the instrument panel
gauges and the indicator lights. Push the lever up to lock the
steering wheel in that position.
Make sure you have securely
locked the steering wheel in place
by trying to move it up and down.

This is the normal key
position when driving. All f eatures
and accessories on the car are usable.
Several of the lights on the instru-
ment panel come on as a test when
you turn the ignition switch f rom
ACCESSORY to ON. In this position,
you can operate the audio system
and the accessory power sockets.
Use this position
only to start the engine. The switch
returns to ON (II) when you let go of
the key.
The engine will not start if the
Immobilizer System does not
recognize the key’s coding (see page ). You will hear a reminder beeper if
you leave the key in the ignition
switch in the LOCK (0) or
ACCESSORY (I) position and open
thedriver’sdoor.Removethekeyto
turn of f the beeper.
Each f ront door has a master door
lock switch. Either switch locks and
unlocks all doors. Push the switch
down to lock all doors, and up to
unlock them.

You can lock and unlock your car
with the remote transmitter. When
you push the LOCK button, all doors
lock. The parking lights, side marker
lights, and taillights f lash once.If you unlock the doors with the
remote transmitter, but do not open
any of the doors within 30 seconds,
the doors automatically relock and
the security system sets. You cannot lock or unlock the doors
with the remote transmitter if any
door is not f ully closed or the key is
in the ignition switch.
When you push the LOCK button a
second time within 5 seconds after
you have locked the doors, you will
hear a beep to verify that the doors
arelockedandthesecuritysystem
has set. When you push the UNLOCK button
once, only the driver’s door unlocks.
The remaining doors unlock when
you push the button a second time.
The parking lights, side marker
lights, taillights and license plate
lights f lash twice, each time you
push the button.
The ceiling light (if the ceiling light
switch is in the center position) will
come on when you press the
UNLOCK button. If you do not open
any door, the light stays on f or about
10 seconds, then f ades out. If you
relock the doors with the remote
transmitter before 10 seconds have
elapsed, the light will go of f
immediately.
To open the trunk, push the Trunk
Release button f or approximately
one second.
You can open the trunk with the
remote transmitter regardless of the
position of the main switch in the
glove box. The trunk will not open if
the key is in the ignition switch.

To turn it back on, repeat this
procedure. The LED will come on
for one second to indicate the
f eature has been turned on. If the seat and mirrors are already in
the proper positions, you will hear
three beeps when you open the door.
The driving position memory
activated (Memory 1, Memory 2) is
shownonthebackof each
transmitter. Make sure you store
your desired driving position in the
memory that is activated by the
transmitter you normally carry.
You can turn of f this driving position
memory activation. Press and hold
the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at
thesametime.TheLEDinthe
remote transmitter will blink twice.
Then release the buttons.
Theremotetransmitterswillalso
activate the Driving Position
Memory System (see page ).
When you open the driver’s door
after unlocking it with the remote
transmitter, you will hear a beep.
The driver’s seat and outside mirrors
move to the positions stored in that
memory location. You will hear two
beeps when the movement is
complete.
Panic mode allows you to remotely
activate your car’s security system to
attract attention. When activated, the
horn will sound, and the exterior
lights will f lash, f or about 30 seconds.
To activate panic mode, press and
hold the PANIC button for about two
seconds.
To cancel Panic mode bef ore 30
seconds, press any button on the
remote transmitter. You can also
turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Panic mode will not activate if the
ignition switch is in the ON (II)
position.

Open the glove box by squeezing the
handle. Close it with a f irm push.

Adjust the outside mirrors with the
adjustment switch on the driver’s
door armrest:Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Move the selector switch to L
(driver’s side) or R (passenger’s
side).
Keeptheinsideandoutsidemirrors
clean and adjusted f or best visibility.
Be sure to adjust the mirrors bef ore
you start driving.
The inside mirror can automatically
darken to reduce glare. To turn on
this feature, press the button on the
bottom of the mirror. The AUTO
indicator comes on as a reminder.
When it is on, the mirror darkens
when it senses the headlights of a
vehicle behind you, then returns to
normal visibility when the lights are
gone. Press the button again to turn
of f this sensing.1.

The HI or LO indicator lights and
remains lit until you turn it of f by
pushing the opposite side of the
switch lightly. The indicator will turn
off.
In HI, the heater turns of f when the
seat gets warm, and turns back on
after the seat’s temperature drops. It
continues to cycle as long as you
leave it set on HI. The HI indicator
remains lit as a reminder that you
have the heater on.
In LO, the heater runs continuously.
It does not cycle with temperature
changes.
Both f ront seats are equipped with
seat heaters. The ignition switch
must be ON (II) to use them. Push
the front of the switch, HI, to rapidly
heat up the seat. After the seat
reaches a comf ortable temperature,
select LO by pushing the back of the
switch. This will keep the seat warm. Follow these precautions whenever
you use the seat heaters:
Do not use the seat heaters, even
on the LO setting, if the engine is
lef t idling f or an extended period.
They can weaken the battery,
causing hard starting. Use the HI setting only to heat the
seats quickly. Select the LO
setting when the seats f eel warm.
The HI setting draws large
amounts of current f rom the
battery.
Because of the sensors f or the side
airbag system, there is no heater in
the passenger’s seat-back.

The master control panel also con-
tains these extra features:
The MAIN switch controls power to
the passengers’windows. With this
switch of f , the passengers’windows
cannot be raised or lowered. The
MAIN switch does not af f ect the driv-
er’s window. Keep the MAIN switch
off whenyouhavechildreninthecar
so they do not injure themselves by
operating the windows unintentional-
ly. The lights inside the switches
come on when you turn the parking
lights or headlights on.
To open the driver’s
window f ully, push the window
switch f irmly down, then release it.
The window automatically goes
down all the way. To stop the
window f rom going all the way down,
pull back on the window switch
brief ly.
To close the driver’s window f ully,
pull back the window switch f irmly,
then release it. The window
automatically goes all the way up. To
stop the window f rom going all the
way up, push down on the window
switch brief ly. To open or close the driver’s window
partially, push down or pull back on
the window switch lightly and hold it.
The window will stop when you
release the switch.
If the driver’s window runs into any
obstacle while it is closing
automatically, it will stop, and then
reverse direction. To close the
window, remove the obstacle, then
use the window switch again.
Auto reverse stops sensing when the
window is almost closed. You should
always check that all passengers and
objects are away from the window
bef ore closing it.

The ceiling light has a three-position
switch. In the OFF position, the light
does not come on. In the center
position, the ceiling light comes on
when you open any door. The light
f ades out af ter all doors are closed.
In the ON position, the ceiling light
stays on continuously.
These sockets are intended to supply
power f or 12 volt DC accessories
that are rated 120 watts or less (10
amps). Tousethesocketintheconsole
compartment, pull the cover up. The ceiling light (with the switch in
the center position) also comes on
when you unlock the door with the
remote transmitter (see page ).
They will not power an automotive
type cigarette lighter element. 81
