- You should not drive your vehicle or
press the windshield wiper lever when
the wiper arms are folded away from the
windshield . The windshield wipers would
move back into their original position
and could damage the hood and w ind­
shield .
- To help preven t damage to the wiper sys­
tem , always loosen blades which are fro­
zen to the windsh ield before ope rat ing
wipers .
- To he lp prevent damage to w iper blades,
do not use gasoline, ke rosene, pa int
th inner, or other so lvents on or near the
wiper blades.
- To he lp prevent damage to the wiper
arms or other components , do not at­
tempt to move the wipers by hand .

-Commercial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affe ct the cleanability
of the wi ndshield .
- You can also use the servic e pos ition, for
example , if you want to pro tect the
winds hield from i cing by using a cover .
- You cannot activate the service posit ion
when the hood is open.

Front passenger's exterior mirror tilt
function*
T o he lp you see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mir ror can
be ti lted s light ly. The knob must be in the P
pos ition for this to happen.
You can adjust the tilted m irror surface by
tu rning the knob in the desired d irect ion.
When you move out of reverse and into anoth ­
er ge ar, the new m irror position is s tored and
assigned to the key you a re using.
T he m irror goes ba ck into its orig inal position
once you drive forward fas te r than 9 mph
(15 km/h) o r turn the ignition off .
Folding mirrors in and out
To fold the mir ro rs in with the knob, turn the
k nob in the 8 position .
To fold the m irrors ou t, turn the knob in the
Q or P or O pos ition .
Applies to vehicles with MMI: You can adjust if
t h e mirrors fold when locking the vehicle
c> page 36. When you lock the vehicle, the
mir rors fo ld in. When you start the ignition,
t h e mirrors fold out .
A WARNING
-Curved mirror surfaces (convex o r asph e-
r ic *) enlarge the field of v is ion. However,
they ma ke objec ts in the mirror appe ar
smaller and fart her away . Your may es ti­
mate incorrect ly when you use t hese mir ­
rors to gauge yo ur distance from the
vehicles beh ind yo u when changing lanes -
accident r isk!

-For vehicles with power folding exterior
mirrors *:
If the m irror housing was
moved by outside forces (such as an im­
pact w hen maneuvering), you must use
the power folding function to fold the mirro r all the way out. You will hear a
l oud noise when the mirrors are latched
back in place . T he mirror housing must
no t be moved back into place by hand
because th is would affe ct the mirror
mechanism.
- Applies to vehicles witho ut powe r fold­
ing exterior mirro rs :
If the mirror hous­
i ng was moved by o utside forces (s uch as
i n impact d uring maneuvering), you
must move the mirror housing back into
place by hand.
- If you wash the ve hicle in an automatic
car wash, you must fold the exterior m ir­
ro rs in to reduce the r isk of damage to
the mirrors . Never fold power foldi ng ex ­
te rior mirrors by hand . Only fold them in
and out using the power cont ro ls.

If the power adjustment fails, both mir­
rors can be adjusted by hand by pressing
on the edge of the mi rror surface.
Dimming the mirrors
Your vehicle is equipped with a manual or au­
tomatic* dimming rearview mirror .

Electro lyte fluid can leak from automatic
d imming mirrors if the glass is broken .
Electrolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes and
respirato ry system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to e lec­
trolyte can cause irr itation to the respira­
tory system, especially among people
with asthma or o ther resp iratory condi­
tions. G et fresh air immediately by leav­
ing the vehicle o r, if that is no t possib le,
ope n w indows and doors all the way.
- I f ele ctrolyte gets into the eyes, flush
them thorough ly with large amou nts of
clean w ate r for at leas t 15 minu te s;
medical at tention is recommended.
- If electroly te con tacts skin, fl ush affect­
ed are a with clean wa ter fo r at le ast 15
minutes and then wash affected area
with soap and water ; medical attention
is recommended. Thoroughly wash af­
fected clothing and shoes before re use .
-If swallowed and person is conscious,
rinse mouth with water for at least 15
minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless
instructed to do so by med ica l professio­
nal. Get medical attention immediately .
CD Note
If the glass on an a utomat ic dimming mir­
ror breaks, electro lyte can leak out. This
li q ui d damages plastic surfaces. C lean this
l iqu id as qu ickly as possible with a wet
sponge .

mirror will not function correctly,

The digi tal compass only works when the igni­
tion is turned on. The directions are indicated
with abbreviations :
N (north), NE (northeast),
E (east), SE (southeast), S (south), SW (south­
west),
W (west), NW (no rthwest) .
You must recalibrate the compass if it does not display the correct direction¢

compartments and holders at other locations
in the vehicle :
- In the upper part of the glove compart­
ment .
- In the center console under the center arm­ rest* .
- On the back of the right front seat. The com­
partment can hold a max i mum weight of 2
lbs (1 kg) .
- Garment hooks on the B -pillar

-Always remove objects from the instru­
me nt pane l. Any items not stored could
s li de aro und inside the vehicle while driv­
ing or when accelerating or when apply­
ing the brakes or when driving a round a
corner .

-When you are dr iving make sure that
anyth ing you may have placed in the cen­
ter conso le or other storage locations
cannot fall out into the footwells . In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to b rake or accele rate .
- A ny articles of clothing that you have
hung up m ust not interfere with the dr iv­
e r's vi ew. The coat hooks are des igned
only for lightweight cloth ing. Neve r hang
a ny cloth ing wi th hard, pointed o r heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During s udden braking or in an accident -
especia lly if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle.
- To reduce the risk of persona l in ju ry in an
accident or s udden stop, always keep the
g love compartment closed wh ile driving.
- Read and follow all WARNINGS
<=> page 161, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision.
- The coat hooks must on ly be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere w ith the s ide cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause
pe rsonal injury in a crash .
- Do not use coat hange rs fo r hanging
cloth ing o n the coat hooks as th is can in­
terfere w ith prope r deployment of the
side curt ain air bags in an a cciden t.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause pe rsonal in­
jury in a sud den stop.
- For strength-re lated reasons, the mount­
i n g hooks ca n only be used to secure ob­
jects weigh ing up to 10 lb . (5 kg) . Heavi­
er objects will not be adequate ly sec ured
- there is a risk of injury.

For a comfortable temperature, we recom­
mend:
- in warmer times of the year, set the temper­
atu re so that it is only a few degrees be low
the outside tempe ratu re.
- set the blower at a moderate speed
- don't direct the air flow d irectly on the pas-
sengers

Certain setting s are automatically stored and
assigned to the remote control key being

Automatic climate control system
We recommend pressing the IAU TO I button
and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).
The automatic climate control system auto­
matically maintains a temperature once it has
been set. The temperature of the air from the
vents, the blower speed, and air distr ibution
are also automatically adjusted . In all heat ing

IA/CI Switching the cooling mode on and
off
T he cooling system is turned on and off with
the
IA/Cl button . The air is not coo led and hu­
midity is not removed when cooling mode is
switched off . This can cause fog on the win­
dows. Cooling mode switches off automatical­
ly when the outside temperature is below
zero .

IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on and
off
The automatic mode is turned on using the
IAUTOI button. AUTO mode switches off once
a button in the climate control system is pressed. Automatic mode maintains a con­
stant temperature inside the vehicle . Air tem­
perature, a irflow and air distribution are con­
trolled automat ica lly. When automatic mode
is act ive, p ress ing the
IAUTOI button briefly
activates "eco" mode*
1>. In "eco" mode*, all
settings are lowered slightly to save fue l.
When in "eco" mode*, eco is shown in the dis­
p lay. To exit "eco" mode*, press the
!AUTO I
button again.
I• I • I Setting the temperature
The temperature can be adjusted individually
for the driver and front passenger using the
dials . Temperatures between 60 ° F (+16 °C)
and 84 °F (+28 °C) can be set. Outside of this
range,
Lo or Hi will appear in the climate con­
trol system display. In both settings, the cli­ mate control runs with constantly at the max­
imum cooling or heati ng level. The tempera­
ture is not regu lated .
Synchronization: By pressing the !AU TO I but­
ton for two seconds, the temperature setting
for the driver is transferred to the front pas­
senger's side. This applies a temperature
change to the front passenge r's side.
~ Adjusting the blower
To prevent the windows from fogging over,
the blower should always run at a low speed.
You can adjust the volume of air generated by
the blower to your preference. To have the
blower regulated automatically, press the
IAUTOI button.
Adjusting the air distribution
The air distribution is adjusted with the 121, ~
and IE:! buttons. To have the air distribut ion
regulated automatically, press the
!AU TO I but­
ton .

The windshield and side windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible. The maximum amount of air flows
main ly from the vents below the windshield.
Recircu lation mode switches off. The tempera­
ture is controlled automatically . In the ~ set­
ting, the
! A/C l cooling mode switches on auto­
matically, depending on the outside air tem­
perature.

! AUTO I button switches the defroster off.

The air quality sensor that is de ­
signed for diesel and gasoline exhaust auto­
matically switches the recirculation mode
on or off depending on the level of pollu­
tants in the outside air.
In recirculation mode, the air inside the vehi-
cle is circulated and filtered. This prevents the unfiltered air outside the veh icle from enter-
i ng the veh icle interior . We recommend
switching recirculation mode on when driving

Rear window defogger
When a funct ion is switched on, the L ED in
the~ button for ma nual climate co ntrol
c::> page 65, fig. 60 and au toma tic climate con­
tro l
c::>page 66, fig. 61 tu rns on . If the rear
window defogger is act ivated when the igni­
tion is switched on, the battery management
determines based on the battery charge if it is
poss ible to turn on. Otherw ise, the rear win­
dow defogger funct ions with the eng ine run­
ning and switches off automatically after ap­
proximate ly 10 -20 minutes, depending on
the outside temperatu re.
To p revent the rear window defogger from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the~ (word REAR*) button for more than two
seconds. This remains s to red up to approxi­
mately 15 minutes after turning off the igni ­
tio n.
Seat heating
Applies to veh icles : w it h sea t heat ing
The seat heating has three leve ls. T he select­
ed heating level is indicated by the LEDs in the
button (manua l climate control)

Starting the engine
Your vehicle is equipped with launch contro l.
As soon as you have turned the ign ition key to
position @, the engine will start automatical­
ly.
~ Press the brake peda l and move the se lector
l ever to the P or N pos ition.
~ Turn the key briefly to position @. The igni­
t ion key automatically returns to position
@. Do not press the accelerator pedal when
doing this.
Major electrical equ ipment switches off tem­
porarily when starting the engine.
If the engine does not start immediately, stop
the starting procedure by turning the ignit ion
key to position @and repeat after 30 sec­
onds .
Automatic start malfunction
If the Ila indicator light turns on (gasoline en­
gine) and the message
Engine start system
malfunction. Please contact Service
appears,
there is an automatic start malfunction.
To start the engine, hold the ignition key in position @until the engine runs.
D rive to an autho rized Audi dea ler or qualified
repair facility immediately to have the ma l­
function corrected.
A WARNING
- Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -there is a r isk of asphyxiation.

- Never remove the ignition key from the
ignit ion lock while the vehicle is mov ing.
Otherwise the steering lock will engage
and you will not be able to steer the vehi­
cle.
- The brake booster and power steering
only work when the eng ine is running. If
the engine is off, you have to use more
force when stee ring or braking. Because
you cannot steer and bra ke as you usual­
ly would, this could lead to crashes and
serious inju ries .
- Always take the vehicle key with you
when leaving the vehicle, even for a
short period of time . This applies partic­
ular ly when c hildren remain in the vehi­
cle. Otherwise the children could start
the engine or operate electrical equip­
ment such as power windows.
(D Note
- Avoid high engine speed, full th rottle,
and heavy engine load as long as the en­
gine has not reached operating tempera­
ture yet. You could damage the engine.
- The engine cannot be started by pushing or towing the vehicle.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not let the engine run while parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately. This
reduces unnecessary emissions.
(D Tips
-If it is difficult to turn the key to position
(D, turn the steering wheel back and
forth slightly to release the steer ing
wheel lock.
-After starting a cold engine, there may be a brief period of increased no ise be­
cause the oil pressure must first build up
in the hydraulic valve adjusters. This is
normal and not a cause for concern.
- If the battery is disconnected and recon­
nected, you have to hold t he ignition key
in posit ion
(D for five seconds fo r the en-
gine to start.
