failed. Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or
qua lified repair faci lity immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.

Bil Tank system
RD Please refuel
When the indicator light turns first turns on
and this message appears, the tank contains
the following amount of fuel:
- Front wheel drive : approximately 1.8 gal­
lons (7 liters)
- All wheel drive: approximately 2.2 gallons
(8 .5 liters)
RD Fuel tank malfunction! Please contact
Service
If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, there is a ma lfunction in the
tank system.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dealer or quali­
fied repair facility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected.

have the malfunction corrected.

- Light bulbs are under pressure and can
explode when bu lbs are replaced -risk of
inj ury.
- With gas-discharge lamps* (xenon head­
lights), the high -voltage component
must be hand led appropriate ly. Other­
wise, there is a risk of fatal injury.

F or safety reasons , the low beams are turned
on permanent ly with the switch in
AUTO. You
can continue to turn the lights on and off us­
ing the light switch. You can still control all
wiper functions that are independent of the
rain sensor.
Drive to an authorized Audi dea ler or qualified
repair facility immediately to have the mal­
function corrected .
Q Adaptive dampers
Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select
II Suspension: system fault!
There is an adaptive damper malfunction.

¢i Q Turn signals
If the B or 1B in dicator light blinks, a turn
s ignal is turned on. If both indicator lights are
blinking, the emergency flashers are on.
In an indicator light blinks twice as fast as
usual then a blinker bulb has failed. Carefully
drive to your author ized Audi dealer or quali­
fied repa ir facility immed iately to have the
malfu nction corrected . T he indicator light
does not indicate a malfunction if a turn sig­
nal on the trailer or on the vehicle fails when
towing a trailer.

App lies to vehicles: with rear safety belt detection
The IJ ;ffl i ndicator light turns on briefly
when you swi tch the ignition on.
An indica tor light turns on briefly when the
safety belt in the rear seat is buckled or un­
buckled.
l!I -if the ind icator light turns on briefly, the
r ear seat is not occupied or the safety belt is
not buckled . Th ere is also an audio warning
signal if the be lt is unbuckled whi le driving.
II -if the ind icator light turns on briefly, the
r ear safety belt is buckled.

properly cannot provide supplemental pro­
tection in a frontal crash.

sible that the airb ag will inf late when it
is not s upposed to, or w ill not inflate
when it sho uld .
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light

The PASSENGER AIR BAG OF F light is located
in the center of the instrument panel

The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will come
on and stay on to tell yo u when the front Ad­
vanced A irbag on t he passenger side has bee n
turned off by the e lectronic control unit. If the
bulb for the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
burns out, the a irbag indicator light
fl w ill
come on to signal a malfunction in the Ad­
vanced A irbag System . Although the bur ned­
out b ulb will not cha nge the way the front
passenger's frontal airbag wor ks, it w ill no
l onge r be possib le to use the
PASSENGER AIR
BAG
OFF light to make sure that the airbag
on/off stat us is correct for the occupant on
the front passenger seat. Have the airbag sys­
tem inspected immed iate ly by your author­
ized Audi dealer.
The PASSENGER AIR BAG O FF light will blink
for about 5 seconds when :

- the ignition is sw itched on and
- t he capaci tive passenger detec tion system,
which switches the front seat passenger's
frontal Advanced Airbag on and off, detects a change in the status of the front passen­
ger seat.
As soon as the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light stops blink ing, a lways make sure that
the ai rbag status (on or off) as shown by the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light is proper for
the age, size and electrical capacitance of the
person occupying the front passenger seat.
Always make sure that the safety belt for the
front passenger seat is properly fastened.
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF l ight will
show the status of the front sea t passenger 's
fronta l Advan ced Airbag a fe w se conds after
th e ignition i s sw itched on and th e airbag in­
dicator light goes off. The PASSENGER AIR
BAG
OFF light :
- will stay on if the front passenger seat is not
occupied;
- will stay on if the electrical capacitance
meas ured by the capacitive passenge r de­
tect io n system for the fron t passenger s eat
equa ls the comb ined capacitance of an in­
fa nt up to about one year of age and one of
t he rearwa rd- facing or forward-fa cing ch ild
restraints listed in Fede ral Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard 208 with which the Ad­
vanced Airbag System in your vehicle was
cert ified; For a listing of the child restraints
that were used to certify your vehicle's com­
pliance w ith the U.S. Safety Standard
~page 168 .
-will go out if the fro nt passenge r seat is oc­
cupied by an adult as registered by the ca­
pacitive passenger detection system .
- The
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light must
come on and stay on if the ignition is on
and ...
- a car bed has been installed on the front passenger seat, or
- a rearwa rd-facing child rest ra int has been
installed on the front passenger seat, or
- a forward-facing child restrai nt has been in-
stalled on the front passenger seat, .,,.

prevent it from being damaged and having
to be replaced .
Working on the battery
Be especially careful when working on or near
the battery.
The battery is loca ted in the luggage compart­
men t under the floor. Before yo u check any­
thing in the l uggage compartment,

i ng on the vehicle battery or the vehi cle elec ­
trica l system to prevent injury.

A WARNING
Whenever working on the bat tery or on
the electrical system, there is the risk of
injury, accident and even fire. Read and
heed the following WARNINGS :
- Always wear eye p rotection. Do not let
battery acid or any lead particles get on
yo ur sk in or clothing. Sh ield your eyes.
Explosive gases can cause blindness or
other injury.

-Battery acid contains sulfuric acid . Sulfu­
ric acid can cause blindness and severe
burns.
- Always wear g loves and eye protection.
Do no t tilt the ba ttery because acid
could leak out of the ventilat ion open­
ings .
- If you ge t bat tery acid in your eyes or
on your skin, immediately rinse with
cold water for several minutes and get
med ical attention .
- If you should ingest any batte ry acid,
seek medical attention immediately.
- Do not expose the ba tte ry to an open
f lame, e lectric sparks or an open light .
- Do not smoke.
- Do not in terchange t he positive and neg-
ative cables.
- When working on t he battery, be su re
not to short-cir cuit the termina ls w ith
too ls or othe r metal objects. This would
cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
which could lead to damage or explosion
and pe rsonal injury.
- When a battery is charged, it produces
hydrogen gas which is explosive and
could cause personal inju ry.
- Always keep the battery well out of the
reach of children.
- Before work is done on the elect rical sys ­
tem, disconnect the negative ground ca ­
ble.
- Before performing any work on the e lec­
trical system, switch off the engine and ignit ion as well as any electrical equip­
ment. The negative cable on the battery
must be disconnected. If you are just go­
ing to replace a light bulb, then it is
e nough to switc h off the lights.
- Before disconnecting the battery, switch off the anti-theft alarm system! Other­
wise you will set off the alarm.
- When disconnecting the battery, first
disconnect the negat ive cab le and then
the posit ive cab le.
- Before reconnecting the battery, ma ke
sure all e lectr ica l consumers are sw itch­
ed off. Reco nne ct the pos it ive cable first

clamp and replace the fuse with an ident ica l
new one.
• Install the cover .

The indiv idual circu its are protected by safety
fuses . The fuses are located under the steer ­
ing wheel beh ind a cover and in the left s ide of
the engine compartment .

-
Do not repair fuses and never replace a
blown f use with one that has a hig her amp
rating. Th is can cause damage to the elec­
trica l system and a fire .
(D Note
-If there a re multiple fuse values in a cell
in the fo llow tables, for examp le
5/10/20, it is because of equipment -re ­
lated differences . Replace the burned
fuse with an identical new one.
- If a new f use should burn out again
shortly after you have installed it, have
the electrical system checked by your au­
thorized Aud i dealer or qualified repair
facility as soon as possible.

Bulbs
Replacing light bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your authorized Audi dealer replace burned
out bulbs for you .
It is becoming increasingly more and more
difficult to replace vehicle light bulbs since in
many cases, other parts of the car must first
be removed before you are able to get to the
bu lb . T his appl ies especia lly to the l ight bu lbs
in the front of your car which you can on ly
reach through the engine compartment .
Sheet metal and bulb ho lders can have sharp
edges that can cause ser ious cuts, and parts
must be correctly taken apart and then prop ­
e rly put back together to help prevent break­
age of parts and long term damage from wa­
ter that can enter housings that have not been properly resealed.
F or your safety, we recommend that you have
your authorized Audi dealer replace any bulbs
for you, since your dealer has the proper tools,
the correct bu lbs and the expertise.
Gas disc harg e lam ps (X enon lig ht s):
Due to the high electrical vo ltage, have the
bu lbs rep laced by a qualified technician.
H eadlights with Xenon light can be identified
by the high voltage sticker.
LED headlights* require no ma intenance .
P lease contact your authorized Aud i dealer if a
bu lb needs to be replaced.
A WARNING
Contact with high-voltage components of
the electrical system and improper re­ placement of gas discharge (Xenon) head­
light bulbs can cause serious personal in­
jury and death .
- Xenon bulbs are pressurized and can ex­
plode when being changed.
- Changing Xenon lamps requires the spe­
cial training, instruct ions and equ ip­
ment. -
On ly an authorized A udi dealer or other
qualified workshop should change the
bulbs in gas discharge lamps .
A WARNING
There are parts with sharp edges on the
openings and on the bulb holders that can
cause serious cuts.
- If you are uncertain about what to do,
have the work performed by an author­
ized Audi dealer or other qualified work­
shop. Serious personal injury may result
from imprope rly performed work.

- If you st ill prefer to replace the light
bulbs yourself, be aware that the engine
compartment is a hazardous area to
work in
