Turn signal and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .

A WARNING
High beams can cause glare for other drivers,
wh ich increases the risk of an accident. For
this reason, only use the h igh beams or the
head light f lashe r when they will not create
glare for other d rivers.

· High beam assistant

T he high beam assistant automatically turns the
high beams on or off depending on the surround­
ing conditions .
A camera on the rearv iew mirror mount can de­
tect light sources from other road users . The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
on the posit ion of vehicles d riving ahead and on­
com ing vehicles , the veh icle speed as well as oth­
er environmenta l facto rs and traffic condit ions.
Activ ating high b eam assistant
Requirement: the light sw itch must be set to AU ­
TO, the low beams must be sw itched on, and the
high beam assistant must be sw itched on in the
Infotai nment
system ~ page 53.
~ To activate the high beam ass istant, press the
leverforward @~page52, fig . 51. The il or
ti1 indicator light appears in the i nstr ument
cl uste r display and the high beams are sw itch­
ed on or off autom atically. The

Switching the high beams on /off manually
If the high beams d id not switch on/off automat­
ic ally as expected, yo u may switch them on or off

Instrument illumination
You can adjust the background brightness of the
instruments and display illumination .

• Press the knob to release it.
• Turn the knob toward"-" or"+" to reduce or in­
crease the brightness.
• Press the knob again to return it to its original
position.
(D Tips
Depending on vehicle equipment, the instru­
ment illuminat ion (needles and gauges) may
turn on when the lights are off and the igni­
tion is sw itched on. The illumination for the
gauges reduces automat ically and eventually
turns off as brightness outs ide inc reases. This
function remind s the d river to turn the low
beams on at the appropr iate time.

Turn the knob to the desired pos it ion:

8 -Folds the exterior mirrors*. To fold the mir­
rors out, turn the knob to one of the other posi­
t ions. In the Infota inment system, you can select
if the mirrors fo ld in automatically when you lock
the
vehi cle ~ page 38.
Front passenge r's e xterior mirror tilt
function*
To help you see the curb when backing into a parking space, the surface of the m irro r tilts
s li ghtly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger's exterio r
mirror.
You can adjus t the tilted mirro r sur face by turn­
ing the knob in the desired d irect ion. When you
move out o f reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using .
T he m irror goes back into its or iginal pos ition
once you drive forwa rd faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or turn the ignition off.
A WARNING ~
Cu rved mirror surfaces (for example convex)
enlarge the field of vision. However, they make objects in the mirror appear smaller
and farther away. Your may est imate incor­
rect ly when you use these mirrors to gauge
your distance from the veh icles beh ind you
when chang ing lanes, which increases the risk
of an accident .
(D Note
-Applies to vehicles with power folding exte­
rior mirrors : if the m irro r hous ing was
moved by outs ide forces (such as an impact
w hen maneuve ring), you must use the pow-
er folding function to fold the mirro r all the
way out. The mirrors will make a loud noise
when they latch into place. The mirror hous-
ing must not be moved back into p lace by

For safety reasons, the windshield wiper
blades should be replaced once or twice each
year .
(D Note
-The windshield wiper blades must only be
folded away when in the service position!
Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on
the hood or the windshield wiper motor .
- You should not drive your vehicle or press
the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield.
The windshield wipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield .
@ Tips
- You can also use the service position, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover.
- You cannot activate the service position
when the hood is open .
Replacing rear wiper blade
Applies to: vehicles with rear window wiper

"Fold the wiper arm away from the rear window .
" Hold the wiper blade below the center -arrow-
¢ fig. 62 and pull it out of the retainer . Hold
the windshield wiper arm securely while doing
this.

"Press the wiper blade mount into the retainer.
Securely hold th e wiper arm at the upper plas­
tic end.
"Fold th e window wiper arm back onto the r ear
window.

Digital compass
Switching the compass on and off
Applies to: vehicles with digital compass

"To turn the compass on or off, press the button
@until the compass display in the mirror turns
on or off.
The digital compass only works when the ignition
is turned on. The directions are indicated with ab­
breviations:
N (north), NE (northeast), E (east) ,
SE (southeast), S (south), SW (southwest), W
(west) , NW (northwest) .
(D Tips
To prevent inaccurate compass readings, do
not bring any remote controls, electrical devi­
ces or metallic objects near the mirror.

Adjusting the magnetic zone

The magnetic zone must be adjusted correctly for the compass to read accurately.

The funct io ns can be switched on and off by
pressing the buttons or adjusted by turning the
k n ob. The LED i n a butto n w ill light up wh en the
f u nction is switched o n.
Automatic climate control system
The automat ic climate control system automati­
cally maintains a temperatu re once it has been
set . In all heat ing mode funct ions e xcep t
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed once
the eng ine coolan t has reached a cer ta in temper­
ature.
AUTO
Switching automatic mode or "eco "
mode* on and off
Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tempera­
ture ins ide the veh icle. Air tempe rature, airflow
and a ir dist ribution are cont rolled automat ically.
AUTO mode switches off once a b utton in t he cli ­
mate control system is pressed .
When a utomat ic mode is a ct ive, pressing the
AUTO b utton briefly activa tes the "E co"
mode*ll.
In "eco" mode'<-, all sett ings are lowered slight ly
to save fue l. When in "eco" mode*,

in the disp lay. To ex it "Eco" mode*, press the
AUTO button aga in.
A/C
cooling mode
T he cooling mode on ly functions with the blower
turned on. You can turn the cooling system on or
off by pressing the A/C button. The air is not
cooled and humidity is not removed when cooling
mode is switched off. This can cause fog on the
windows . The cooling mode sw itches off auto­
matically when there are cold outside tempera­
tu res.
e / e Temperature
The temperature for the driver's and front pas­
senger's side can be ad justed separately with the
dials
(D I@ . Tempe ra tures between 60 °F
(+16 °() and 84 °F (+ 28 °() ca n be set. If o utside
of this range,

contro l system display. In bot h set tings, the cli ­
mate contro l runs constant ly a t the maxim um
cooling or heating level. The temperature is not
regu lated.

-You should not use the recirculation mode
for an extended period of time, because no
fresh a ir is drawn in and the windows can
fog when coo ling mode* is switched off .
T his increases the r is k of an accide nt.
- Individuals with reduced sensitivity to pain
o r temperat ure cou ld develop burns when
using the seat heating fu nction . To reduce
the risk of injury, these ind iv iduals should
not use seat heating.
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heat ing elements in
the seats, do not kneel on the sea ts or place
heavy loads on a small area of the seat.
@ Tips
-The setting for the seat heating on the driv­
er's side is ass igned to the key that is in use.
-If the front passenger's seat heat ing is
turned on, it will not turn on again automat­
i ca lly if more than 10 m inutes have passed
between sw itching the ign ition off and
switching it on again .

Steering wheel heating

The steering wheel rim can be heated.

mu ltifunction steering wheel to switch the

T he temperature is mainta ined at a constant lev­
el when steering wheel heating is switched on.
T he s teering wheel heating settings a re stored
automat ica lly and assigned to the remote control
key that is in use .
If the steering wheel heating cannot be sw itched
on, the message:

pears. Dr ive to an authorized Audi dea ler or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.

The engine stops in the P , N and D selector lever
positions .
If you select the R se lector lever position during a
Stop phase, the eng ine will start again.
Shift to P quick ly to prevent t he engine from
starting unintent iona lly when s hifting t hrough R.
You can dete rm ine fo r you rself if the engine will
s top or not by reducing or increas ing the amount
of force you use to press the brake pedal. For ex ­
ample, if you only lig htly press on the brake ped ­
a l in stop -and-go traff ic or when turning, the en­
g ine will not switch off when the vehicle is sta­
tionary. As soon as you press the brake down harder , the eng ine will switch off.
(D Tips
- Press the brake pedal during a Stop phase
to keep the veh icle from rol ling.
- The ignition will turn off if you press the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP ! button* d uring a
stop phase. The needle in the tac hometer
moves into the
OFF posit io n.
General information

Engine does not switch off
Before and d uring each stop phase, the system
checks if certa in cond itions have been met .
If the
fiJ indica to r li ght appears in the inst rument cl us­
ter disp lay, the engine w ill not be s topped, for
examp le in the fo llow ing s itu ations :

-The engine has not reached the minim um re ­
quired temperature for Start/Stop mode.
- The interior tempera ture selected by the cli -
mate cont rol system* has not been reached.
- The ou tside tempe ra tu re is extremely h igh/low.
- The windsh ield is being
defros ted® .
-The pa rking system * is switched on .
- The vehicle battery charge level is too low.
- The steering wheel is turned at a sharp angle o r
is moving.
- After engaging the reve rse gear.
- On sharp inclines .

Engine automatically restarts
The standard Start/Stop mode w ill be canceled

Ignition is switched off automatically
To p reve nt the vehicle battery from dra ining, the
i gnition will switch off
automatically under the
fo llow ing cond it io ns:
- The Start/Stop system has stopped the engine.
- The veh icle is stationary.
- You exit ed the vehicle .
I n this case, the activ ated low be am is replaced
by the pa rking light . The parking lig hts will
switch off afte r approximately 30 minutes or
whe n you lock the ve hicle.

If the Start/Stop system has not turned off the
engine or if you have switched the Start/Stop sys­
tem off manually, the ignition will not be auto ­
mat ically switched off and the engine w ill contin­
ue to run

To reduce the risk of poisoning, never allow
the engine to run in confined spaces.
{!) Tips
If you select the D or N se lector lever position
in a vehicle with an automat ic transmission
after sh ift ing into reverse, the vehicle m ust
be driven fas ter than 6 m ph (10 km/h) in or­
de r fo r the e ngine to switch off again.
Manually switching the Start/Stop system
on/off
Applies to: vehicles with Sta rt/Stop system
If you do not wish to use the system, you can
switch it off manually.

Selector lever lock
The selector lever lock prevents you from se lect­
ing a gea r accidenta lly, causing t he vehicle to
ro ll.
The se lector lever is locked in the P and N pos i­
tions whe n the ignition is sw itched o n. You must
press the brake pedal to se lect another position .
You must a lso press the inte rloc k button if you
are moving from the P and N position .

The selector leve r lock on ly functions when the
vehicle is stationary or at speeds be low approxi­
mately 1 mph (2 km/ h). At higher speeds, the
l ock is automatically deactivated in the N posi­
tion.
The selector leve r is not locked when shifting
quick ly throug h N, fo r example from R to D. This
makes it possible to free the vehicle when it is
stuck by "rocking" it. The selector lever lock en­
gages if the leve r stays in the N pos ition longer
t h an approximately 2 seconds when the brake
pedal is not pressed .
Ignition key safety interlock*

You can only remove the key from the ignition af­
ter switching t he ignition
off if the selector lever
i s in the P position. The selector lever will be
locked in the P position as long as the key is not
i n the ig nition .
P -Park
This selector lever position prevents the vehicle
from ro lling. You ca n only shift into Park w hen
the ve hicle is
stationary ¢,&. .
To sh ift in and out of the P selecto r lever posi­
t ion, press the interlock button in the selector
l ever
while pressing the brake peda l.
The selector lever will be locked in the P pos ition

R- Reverse
Only s hift into reverse gear w hen the ve hicle is
stationary and the engine is running at idle

D /S -Normal position for driving forward
In the 0/5 se lector lever position, the transmis­
sion can be operated either in the normal D mode
or in the 5 sport mode. To select the 5 sport
mode, pull the selector lever back br ie fly. P ulling

the lever back again will select the norma l D
mode. The instrument cluster display shows the
selected driv ing mode.
I n the
no rmal mode D, the transmission a uto­
matica lly selects the suitab le gear ratio .
It de­
pends on engine load, vehicle speed and driving
style.
The engine 's power reserves are used fully in the
Sport mode S . Shifting may become noticeab le
when accelerating .
To move from selector lever position N to D, yo u
must press the bra ke pedal and the veh icle mus t
be traveling less than 1 mph (2 km/h) or be sta­
tionary ¢.&, .
A WARNING
Read and follow all WARNINGS.
-The vehicle can roll even if the ignition is
switched off.
-Never select R or P while driv ing, beca use
this increases the risk of an accident.
-Power is st ill transmitted to the wheels
when the eng ine is r unning at idle . To pre­
vent the vehicle from "creeping", you must
keep your foot on the brake in all selector
lever positions (except P) when the engine is
running . Otherwise, th is increases the r isk
of an accident .
-Do not inadvertent ly press the acce lerator
peda l when the veh icle is stopped if a gear is
engaged . Otherwise the veh icle wi ll start to
move immediately, even i f the pa rking brake
is se t. T his cou ld res ult in a crash.
-Do not p ress the accelerator pedal when
changing the s elector leve r pos ition w hile
the vehicle is stationa ry and the engine is
running.
-Never leave yo ur vehicle with the engine
running wh ile in gear. If yo u m ust leave
yo ur vehicle when the engine is runn ing, set
the parking brake and move the selecto r lev ­
er to the P position.
- T o decrease the risk of an accident, t hese­
lector lever must be in the P position and
the parking brake must be set before open­ ing the hood and wo rking on a running en-

-Audi drive select: Sporty shifting character­
istics can be selected using the
Dynam ic
dr iving mode c> page 143 Sw ill appear in
the instrument cluster display instead of D.
-If you accidentally select N wh ile driving,
take your foot off the accelerator peda l im­
mediately and wait for the eng ine to slow
dow n to idle before selecting Dor S.
-If the selector leve r does not engage, there
is a malfunct ion. The engine is disabled to
prevent the veh icle from drivi ng off unin­
tentionally. To allow t he selecto r lever to
engage again, proceed as follows:
- >Briefly press the brake pedal.
-If the vehicle does not move forward or in
reverse even tho ugh a drive posit io n is se­
lected, proceed as follows:
->If the vehicle does not move in the desired
direction, the system may not have engaged
the drive position correctly. Press the bra ke
peda l and select the dr ive position again.
- >If the vehicle still does not move in the de­
sired d irection, there is a system malfunc­
tion. See an autho riz ed Aud i dealer o r au­
tho rized Audi Service Fac ility for assistan ce
t o have the system checked .
- If there is a powe r fail ure, the se lector lever
w ill not move ou t of the P posi tion. The
emergency re lease can be used if this hap ­
pens
