& WARNING
Automatic headlights are only intended to assist the driver. They
do not relieve the driver of his responsibility to check the head­
lights and to turn them on manually according to th e current light
and visibility conditions . For example, fog cannot be detected by
the light sensors. So always switch on the headlights under these
weather conditions and when driving in the dark
io.
[ i ) Tips
• The light sensor for headlight cont rol is located in the rear view
m irror mo unt. You s hou ld therefore not apply a ny st ic kers to the
windshield in th is area in order to prevent malfunct ions or fa ilures.
• T he sensitivity leve l for the light se nsor set a t the factory ca n be
changed in the MMI menu~
page 65 in the automatic driving lights
fu nction .
• When you remove your key from t he ign itio n while the veh icle's
lights a re tu rned on, a bu zzer sounds as long as t he driver's doo r is
open.

Fog lights
The side marker lights or low beams must be switc hed on . W hen the
fog lights are switc hed on, the gree n check light at t he edge of the
switch co m es on.
If automat ic dr iv ing light control AUTO is activated , the low beams
a re sw itched on whe n the fog lights are t urned on.
Rear fog lights
Low beams o r side m arke r lig hts w ith fog ligh ts m ust be t urned on .
When the rear fog lig hts are tur ned on, the ye llow check lig ht at the
edge of the swi tch comes on.

Adjusting exterior Lighting
The functions are selected in the radio or in the fv1fv1I.
- Select: Function button [CAR)> E xterior lighting .
Coming home
The coming home function ensures that after
turn ing off the ignit ion
and ope ning the dri ver' s door
the ve hicle per iphery is illuminated in
the dark . In add ition, the fron t fog lights, the ta il ligh ts and the
l icense p late ligh t are t urned on . The powe r-on time can be set for a
period from O (off) to 60 seconds .
Leaving home
The leaving home functions ensures that
when unloc king , the vehicle
periphery is illum inated in the da rk. In add it io n, the fron t fog ligh ts,
the tai l lights and the license p late light are turned on . This funct ion
can be turned on and off.
Autom atic driving light s*
When the lig ht sw itc h i s in the AUTO => page 63 pos it ion, the switch­
on po int of the lights can be changed in the automatic driving light
function.
Daytime running lights*
Th e daytime running lig hts ca n be turned on or off using this func­
tion. If the funct ion is act ive, the daytime running l ights are tu rned
on a utoma tica lly w hen the ignition is sw itche d on .
In the versions for some countr ies it is not poss ible to switch off the
daytime running lights or they may not have dayt ime runn ing lig hts.

The coming home/leaving home function is available on ly with the
switch in the AU TO position .•

tion (only in day light condit ions) . The dayt ime running lights funct ion
cannot be turned off .
& WARNING
Never use daytime running lights to see where you are going. They
are not bright enough and will not l et you see far enough ahead
for s afety , especiall y at dusk or wh en it is dark. Be aware of
change s in outside light condition s when you are dri ving and
respond b y switching on your low beams

Instrument lighting
The basic brightness of the illumination for the instru­
ments, the center console and the display can be
adjusted .
-Press the knob to release it.

Rotating the knob to the right"+" will increase the basic
brightness when it is dark.
- Rotating the knob to the left"-" will decrease the basic
brightness when it is dark.
- Pressing the knob will prevent unintentional changes.
(I] Tips
The illumination for the instrument cluster lights up whenever you
switch on the ignition with the vehicle headlights off . As the daylight
fades, the instrument cluster illumination likewise dims automati­
cally and will go out completely when the outside light is very low.
This feature is meant to remind you to switch on the headlights when
outside light conditions become poor. •
Appli es to veh icles : wi th xenon headlights
Xenon headlights
After starting the engine , the xenon headlights are automatically
adjusted to the load and angle of the vehicle (for example, during
acceleration and braking). This prevents oncoming traffic from expe­
riencing unnecessary headlight glare from your xenon headlights .
If the system is not operating properly, a warning symbol in the Auto­
Check Control is displayed~
page 37. •

Adaptive light
When driving around bends, the relevant area of the road
is better illuminated.

The benefit of adaptive light is that the curve and the edge of the road
are better illuminated ~ fig. 69. Dynamic adaptive light is controlled
automat ically, depending on vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.
When driving around bends, the headlights are controlled according
to steering wheel angle . So that there is no black hole ahead of the
vehicle , the two main beams pivot at different angles. .,.

(]] Tips
The system works above a speed of about 6 mph (10 km/h) .•
Emergency flashers ~
The emergency flashers makes other motorists aware
that you or your vehicle are in an emergency situation.

- Press the switch ~=> fig. 70 to turn the emergency
flashers on or off.
When the emergency flashers are on, all four turn signals blink at the
same time . The turn signal indicator lights¢¢ in the instrument
cluster, as well as the light in the emergency flasher switch~ blink
likewise . The emergency flashers also work when the ignition is
turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automatically if you are in an
accident where the airbag has deployed.

You should turn on the emergency flashers when :
• you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic jam so that any other
vehicles coming can see you, or when

• your vehicle has broken down or you are in an emergency situa­
tion, or when
• your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or if you are towing
another vehicle behind you .•
Turn signals -¢ Q and high beam gD lever
The lever on the le~ side of the steering column is used to
operate the turn signals and the high beam as well as the
headlight flasher.

The turn signal and high beam lever has the following func­
tions:

- Push the lever up as far as it can go to turn on the right
turn signal or down to turn on the left turn signal
=> fig. 71 .
- Move the lever briefly until you meet resistance and
release it to flash three times.
- Move the lever (up or down) until you meet resistance and
hold it there to determine the flashing time for the turn
signals. _.,

- Push the lever forward to switch on the high beam.
- Pull the lever back towards you to switch off the high
beam.

• The turn signals only work with the ignit ion turned on. The indi­
cato r lights ¢ or¢ in the instrument cluster also blink.
• After you have turned a corner, the turn signal switches off auto­
matically.
• The
high beam works only when the headlights are on. The indi­
cator light ~D in the instrument cluster illuminates when the high
beams are on.
• T he
headlight flasher works only as long as you hold the lever -
even if there are no lights switched on. The indicator light ~Din the
instrument cluster illuminates when you use the headlight flasher.

Do not use the high beam or headlight flasher in if you know that
these could be blinding oncoming traffic.•
Interior lights
Interior lights
The interior lights include the reading lights for the driver
and the front passenger .

- Press the button@. The LED in the button illuminates .
Deactivating door contact circuit
-Press the button@. The LED in the button goes out .
Front reading Lights ~
- Press one of the switches @ to turn the right or le ft
reading light on or off .
With the door contact circu it, the inte rior lights turn on as soon as
you un lock the vehicle or open the doors. The interior lights are also
tu rned on when the ignit ion key is removed. The lights turn off about
30 seconds after the doors are closed. When the vehicle is locked or
when the ignition is tu rned on, the interior lights are turned off.
When a door is open, the interior lights are turned off after about 10
min utes to prevent battery draining. _,.

The brightness of the lights is controlled automatically by a dimmer
when they are switched on and o ff. •
Rear interior lights
There are reading lights in the rear for the passengers .

Vanity m irror
The vanity mirrors on the sun visors are covered. When the lid is
opened @, the mir ror ligh t in the head line r tu rns o n automa tic ally.
It turns off when the lid is closed and the visor is folded up aga in .•

switch @to the left/r ight . In ve hicles with a rain sensor*, the w ind­
shield wipers are activated automat ically starting at a speed of 2 mph
(4 km/h) . The higher the sensitivity of the ra in se nsor* is set (sw itch
@ to the right), the earlier the winds hield wipers react to moisture
on the w indshield .

© -Clean the windshield. To eliminate water droplets, the wind­
shield wiper performs one afterwipe operation after several seconds
while driving. You can switch this function off by moving the lever to
posit ion© within 10 seconds of the afterwipe operation. The after­
wipe function is reactivated the next time the ignition is switched on.
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight washer system* only func­
tions when the light is switched on. The headlights are automat ically
cleaned the first time and every fifth time the lever is moved to posi­
tion ®· They are also cleaned every time you hold the lever in pos it ion
© for longer than 2 seconds.
& WARNING
• The rain sensor is only intended to assist the driver . The driver
is still responsible for manually switching the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions.
• The windshield may not be treated with water-repelling wind­
shield coating agent s. Unfavorable conditions, such as wetness,
darkness, low sun, can result in increased glare. Wiper blade
chatter is also possible.
• Properly functioning windshield wiper blades are required for
a clear view and safe driving=>
page 71, "Replacing windshield
wiper blades" .

• In the case of frost, check whether the windshield wiper blades are
frozen to the windshie ld . Switching on the windshield wipers can
damage the wiper blades!
• Prior to using a car wash, the windshield wiper system must be
switched off (lever in position 0). This helps to prevent unintentional
switching on and damage to the windshield wiper system .
[I] Tips
• The w indshield wipe rs are switched off when the ignition is turned
off . Activate the windshield wipers after the ignition is switched back
on by mov ing the windshield w iper lever to any position.
• Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades result in streaking. This can
affect the rain sensor* function. Check your windshie ld wiper blades
regularly.
• The washer fluid nozzles of the w indshield washer system are
heated at low temperatures when the ignition is on .
• When stopping temporar ily, e.g . at a traffic light, the set speed of
the windshield w ipers is automatically reduced by one speed .•
Service position
The windshield wiper blades are replaced in the service
position.

for example with insects, carefully clean the wiper blades with a
s ponge or a soft brush .
• For your safety, you should replace the wiper blades once or
twice a year. See your authorized Audi dealer for replacement
blades.

• The windshield wiper blades must only be replaced when in the
service position :::::, page 70! Otherwise, you risk damag ing the pa int
on the hood or the windsh ield w iper motor.
• T o help prevent damage to the wiper system, always loosen
blades which are frozen to the windshield before operating wipers.
• To help prevent damage to w iper blades, do not use gasoline,
kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near the wiper
blades.
• To help prevent damage to the wiper arms or other components,
do not attempt to move the wipers by hand .
(I) Tips
Commercial hot waxes applied by automatic car washes affect the
how easily the glass surface can be cleaned. •

- Move the small lever (located on the bottom edge of the
mirror) to the front .
Anti-glare setting
- Move the small lever (located on the bottom edge of the
mirror) to the rear .•

Automatic dimming function
The automatic dimming function is act ivated every time the ign ition
is turned on. The green indicator light is lit to indicate auto dimming
is active.

Broken glass of automatic dimming mirror can cause electrolyte
fluid leakage. Electrolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes, and respira­
tory system.
• Repeated or prolonged exposure to electrolyte can cause irrita ­
tion to the respiratory system, especially among people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Get fresh air immediately
by leaving the vehicle or, if that is not possible , open windows and
doors all the way.
• If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush them thoroughly with
large amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes; medical
attention is recommended.
• If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affected area with clean
water for at least 15 minute s and then wash affected area with
soap and water; medical attention is recommended. Tho roughly
wash affected clothing and shoes before reuse.
• If swallowed and person is conscious, rinse mouth with water
for at least 15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed
to do so by medical professional. Get medical attention immedi­ ately .

• If you switch off the automatic dimming function on the inside
mirror , automatic dimming of the outside mirrors will likewise be
disabled.
• Check to make sure there are no o bjects prevent ing lig ht from
reach ing the inside mirror.
• Do not attach any st ic kers to the w indshield in fro nt of t he lig ht
sensor, as thi s would interf ere with both the a utomatic operatio n of
the headlights a nd the automatic dimm ing of the inside mirror.•

Depend ing on the outs ide temperature, the mirror surfaces are
heated until the igni tion is sw itched off -even if the knob is no longe r
in posit io n @ .
You are we ll-advised to fold the o utside mirrors in when maneuvering
in tight spaces or when leaving the ca r pa rked close to other vehicles .
Memory for exterior mirrors*
On vehicles with memo ry fo r the d rive r's seat, the current sett ing for
the exter ior mirrors is automatically stored a long w it h the seat posi ­
tion=>
page 80 .
Tilt function for the passenger's mirror* (only with
memory for exterior mirrors)
W hen the reverse gear is engaged, the mir ror surface tilts downward
sl ightly if the setti ng is for the passenger 's mirror (knob in pos ition
® => page 73, fig. 79) . T h is allows you to see the curb during paralle l
par king.
The mirror returns to its init ial position as soon as reverse gear is
disengaged and ve hicl e speed is a bove about 9 mph (15 km/h). The
m irror also returns to its in itia l pos ition if the switch is moved to the
dr iver's ou tside mir ror © or the igni tion is sw itched off .
If the posi tion of t he mir ro r surface is changed on a ti lted mi rror, this
new position will be automat ically assigned to the remote key when
t he vehicle is ta ken ou t of reverse gear.

Curved mirr or s urfa ces (c onvex o r sp her ica l*) increase your fie ld of
view. Remember that vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
a nd f arth er aw ay than when see n in a fla t m irror. If you use this
m irror to est imate d istances of following vehicles when changing
lanes, you co uld es timate incorre ct ly and ca u se an acciden t.
W Tips
If t here should be a ma lfunction in the elect rical system, you can still
adjust the outside mir rors by pressing the edge of the mirror .•

Automatic dimming for the outside
mirrors
The o utside mirrors dim at the same time as the ins ide mirror . When
the ignition is switched on, t he mi rrors a utomatically dim depend ing
on the a mount of light str ik ing t he m irrors (such as head lights
shining into the vehicle from the rear).
W hen the in ter io r li gh ting is switched on and whe n reverse gear is
engaged, the m irrors are switched back to their original brightness
(no t dimmed) .
& WARNING
