Locking the front pa ssenger' s door with
th e mechanical ke y
The emergency lock is located on the rear side
of the front passenger's door.
It is on ly visible
when the door is open.
• Remove the mechanical key

• Pull the cover cap out of the opening

• Inse rt the key in the inside slot and turn it
all the way to the right .
Once the front passenger's door has been
closed , you cannot open it again from the out
side. The door can be opened from the inside
by pulling the door handle.

After the ign ition is swi tched on, the pow
er locking system switch is enab led.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from
being started by unauthorized persons.

I nside the key there is a computer chip . T his
ch ip automatically activates/deactivates the
e lectronic immob ilizer.

The electronic immobilizer deactivates auto
mat ica lly when you insert the remote control
key into the ignition lock.

If the remote control key is located inside the
vehicle and you press the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OPI button, the electro nic
immobilizer deactivates a utomatically. If you
switch the ignition
off and remove the remote
cont rol key from the vehicle, the electronic
immobili zer activates again automatically.
A WARNING
-
Always take the key with you when you
leave the vehicle . The key can disarm the
electronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys
tems such as power w indow or power sun
roof leading to serious personal injury.
© Tips
- T he veh icle cannot be started if an unau
tho rized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device s uch as a key
for another ve hicle or a transponder is
located on the key ring .

- When you leave your vehicle - even if on-
ly briefly - always remove the ignition
key. This applies particularly when chil
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise the
children could start the engine or oper
ate electrical equipment (e.g . power win
dows). The power windows are function
al until the driver's door or passenger's
door has been opened.
- Pay close attention when closing the win dows to prevent pinching of hands or
limbs.
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied since the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.

- When you open the doors, the windows
automatically lower about
10 mm .
- After the ignition has been switched off, the windows can still be opened or
closed for about
10 minutes. The win
dow regulators are not switched until
the driver's or passenger's door is
opened.

correct the cause of the malfunction as
soon as possible.
- If parking the vehicle with the power top
open, remember that the vehicle interior
will not be protected from the weather
or from unauthorized entry. Closing the
power top before leaving the vehicle is
recommended . If you leave items in the
vehicle, lock them in the trunk.
=-· Power top operation
The indicator light monitors the power top .
The I!!! indicator light illuminates for approxi
mately 2 seconds when the ignition switches
on to check the function and then goes out
again . The indicator light also:
- illuminates when the power top opens or
closes.
- blinks if the power top switch is operated
but the conditions for opening or closing the
power top are not met . A warning message
also appears in the instrument cluster dis
play ¢

-if the power top did not open or close com
pletely.

An error message appears if the power top
cannot open or close.
Several conditions must be met for the power
top to open or close automatically.
An error message in the instrument cluster
d isplay indicates if one of the conditions is not
met or there is a malfunction.
Power top 43
Power top: please close rear lid
The luggage compartment lid must be closed
when the power top is opening or closing. This
error message appears in the instrument clus
ter display if the luggage compartment lid is
not closed.
Storage bay not lowered. Please remove
obstruction
The power top storage bay must lower when
the power top is opening. This error message
appears in the instrument cluster display if
the storage bay is not lowered. If the storage
bay does not lower automatically because of
objects in the luggage compartment, remove
the objects that are in the way from the stor
age bay area . Otherwise, you can operate the
power top storage bay manually

Power top: cannot be used
This error message appears if the convertible
cannot open or close automatically because of safety reasons or if there is a malfunction. The
following causes are possible :
-Vehicle speed too high: Power top opera
tion is deactivated and an error message ap
pears if the vehicle speed is too high. Re
duce the vehicle speed and operate the
sw itch again to open or close the power top.
-Battery voltage too low: The power top can
not be operated if the battery voltage is too
low. This ensures there will be enough bat
tery voltage left to start the vehicle. The
power top can be operated again after the
engine is started.
- Rollover protection active: If the power top
is operated continuously for an extended pe
riod of ti me, rollover protection will activate
to prevent damage to the hydraulic unit .
This protective function prevents the power top from opening or close for approximately
15 to 30 minutes .

bag and fold it apart

wind deflector frame is at the top .

the trim above the rear seat on the driver

- Do not use the wind deflector to secure
cargo .
- Be careful when instal ling so you do not
pinch your fingers .
- Pay attention to the traffic when instal
ling the wind deflector, if necessary .

Do not lean aga inst the vehicle when in
stalling the wind deflector. Hard objects
and decorat ions on clothing such as be lt
buckles can scratch the paint. Your cloth
i ng could also become dirty .
(D Tips
- The wind deflector works best when all
of the windows are rolled up while driv
ing.
- Only store the wind deflector in the stor
age bag when it is dry.
Power top emergency
operation
General information
The power top can be closed by hand if there
is a malfunction .
.. Ac tivate the pa rking brake.
.. Open the windows
.. Remove the key from the ignition .
Only close the power top manually in an emer
gency . The best so lution is to have your au
thorized Audi dea ler correct the cause of the
malfunction .
Power top emergency operation consists o f
the following steps :
-Unl ocking the power t op compartm ent
c o ver :
The cove r on the power top compart
ment m ust be released by hand.
- Clo sin g the pow er top : The power top must
be lifted out of the tray and closed .
- Lo cking the power top : The power top
latches must be locked with the emergency
key.
A WARNING
- When positioning the power top, avoid
contact with the s upports or other mov
ing pa rts . Make s ure all of the windows
are lowered. Otherwise yo u could pinch
your hands. -

@ Tips
- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted

- When you remove your key from the igni
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru
ment cluster disp lay¢
page 22.
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .

Travel mode*
T he headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro
v ides stronger illum ination on the s ide of the
road on wh ich you are driving .
If you are driv
i ng in a country that d rives on the opposite
side of the road from your own country, th is
will cause glare for on coming drivers. To pre
vent glare:
- Trave l mode must be selected in vehicles
with Xenon headlights*.
- In veh icles with halogen headlights, ce rtain
areas of the head light lenses must be cov
ered with wate rproof adhesive covers that
prevent light from passing thro ugh. For

the driver information system indicates

The emergency flashers makes other moto
rists aware that you or your vehicle are in an
emergency situation .

When the emergency f las hers are on, all four
turn s ignals b link at the same time. The turn
s ignal indicator lights .

ment cluster, as well as the light in the emer
gency flasher switch ~ blink likewise.
You can indicate a lane change or a tu rn w hen
the emergency flashers are switched on by us
ing the turn signal lever. The emergency flash
ers stop temporarily .
T he emergency flashers also work when the
ign it ion is turned off .
T he emergency flashers w ill turn on a utomat i
ca lly if yo u are in an accident where the airbag
has deployed.

You sho uld turn on the emergency f lashers
when:
- yo u are the last veh icle standing in a t raf
fic jam so that any other vehi cles coming
can see you, or whe n
- your vehicle has bro ken down or you are
in an eme rgency s ituation, or when
- yo ur vehicle is be ing towed by a tow
truck or if you are tow ing another vehicle
beh ind you.

Press the button ®· T he LED in the button il
luminates.
If the LED illum inates, the interior lights turn
on automatically when you un lock the vehicle,
open a door or remove the ignition key. The in
ter ior lights turn off several seconds after
your close the doors, when you lock the vehi
cle or when you turn the ignition on. When a
door is open, the light turns off after a few
minutes .
@ Front/rear reading lights
To turn a reading light on/off, press the but

Instrument illumination
The basic brightness of the illumination for
the instruments, the center console and the
display can be adjusted.

increase the brightness .

(!') Tips
The instrument illumination (for dials and
needles) lights on when the ignition is
switched on and the vehicle lights are
turned off. As the daylight fades, the illu
mination of the dia ls likewise dims auto
matically and will go out completely when
the outside light is very low. This feature is
meant to remind you to switch on the
headlights when outside light conditions
become poor.

Turn the knob to the desired position:
Q/ P -In this position , you can adjust the
driver's and front passenger's exterior mirrors by turning the knob in the desired direction.
(ijjl -The mirrors are heated depending on the
outside temperature.
Passenger exterior mirror tilt function*
To help you see the curb when backing into a parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts
slightly . The knob must be in the P posit ion
for this to happen .
You can adjus t the tilted mirror sur face by
turning the knob in the desired direction .
When you move out of reverse and into anoth
er gear, the new mirror position is stored and
assigned to the key you are using.
T he mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) or switch the ignition off .
_& WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex or spheri
cal*) increase your field of view. Remem
ber that vehicles or other objects will ap
pear smaller and farther away than when
seen in a flat mirror. If you use this mirror
to estimate distances of following vehicles
when changing lanes, you could estimate
incorrectly and cause an accident .

- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic
car wash, you must fold the exterior mir
rors in to reduce the risk of damage to
the mirrors.

- The exterior mirror settings are stored
with the memory function*

-If there should be a malfunction in the
electrical system, you can still adjust the
exterior mirrors by pressing the edge of
the mirror.

Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic
dimming mirrors if the glass is broken .
Electrolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes and
respiratory system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to elec
trolyte can cause irritation to the respira
tory system, especially among people
with asthma or other resp iratory condi
tions . Get fresh air immediately by leav
ing the vehicle or, if that is not possible,
open windows and doors all the way.
- If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush
them thoroughly with large amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes;
medical attention is recommended.
- If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affect
ed area with clean water for at least 15
minutes and then wash affected area
with soap and water; medical attention
is recommended. Thoroughly wash af
fected clothing and shoes before reuse .

-If swallowed and person is conscious,
rinse mouth with water for at least 15
minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless
instructed to do so by medical professio
nal. Get medical attention immediately.

Liquid electrolyte leaking from broken mir
ror glass will damage any plastic surfaces
it comes in contact with. Clean up spilled
electrolyte immediately with clean water
and a sponge.
@ Tips
- Switching off the dimming function of
the inside rear view mirror also deacti
vates the automatic dimming function of
the exterior mirrors.
-Automatic dimming for the mirror only
operates properly if the light striking the inside mirror is not hindered by other ob
jects.
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not
dim when the interior lighting is turned
on or the reverse gear is selected.

The sun visors for the driver and passenger
can be pulled out of their brackets in the cen
ter of the vehicle and turned towards the
doors @.
The mirror light switches on when the cover over the vanity mirror@ opens.
Wiper and washer

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre
sponding position:
@ -Windshield wiper off
@ -Interval mode. To extend/shorten the
wiper intervals, move the switch@ to the
left/right. In vehicles with a rain sensor* the
wipers turn on in the rain once the vehicle
speed exceeds approximately 2 mph (4 km/h).
The higher the sensitivity of the rain sensor* is
set (switch @ to the right), the earlier the
windshield wipers react to moisture on the
windshield. In some models, you can switch
rain sensor mode off and switch intermittent
mode on in the MMI*. Select:

> Rain sensor . In intermittent mode,
you can adjust the interval time using the@
switch.
@ -Slow wiping
@ -Fast wiping
@-Single wipe
® -Clean the windshield. To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one
afterwipe operation after several seconds
while driving . You can switch this function off
by moving the lever to position ® within 10
seconds of the afterwipe operation. The after
wipe function is reactivated the next time the
ignition is switched on.
