Opening rear beverage holders

Holding beverages at the rear
To adjust the arm@, swing it in the d irectio n of t he arrow .

Closing cup holders
-Press on t he center sec tion between t he two arms and
push t he cup ho lder in t he slot as far as it wi ll go .
The ho ld ing arm must be adjusted such that it lies close ly against the
c u p ho lde r.
A max imum of two beverages can be placed i n th e cente r armr est.
& WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident and personal injury.
• Never carry any beverage containers with hot liquids, such a s
hot coffee or hot tea, in the vehicle wh ile it is moving. In case of
an accident, sudden braking or other vehicle movement , hot liquid
could spill, causing scalding burns. Spilled hot liqu id can also
cause an accident and personal injury .
• Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Ha rd cups and glasses can
c ause injury in an a ccident .
• Never use the cupholder or adapter a s an ashtray· risk of fire .

Using the socket
- Remove the cigarette light er.

The socket o f the cigare tte lighter may be used fo r 12-volt applia nces
with maximum consumption o f up to 100 watts, such as a flash light,
small v acuum cle aner, etc. Before you purchase any accessor

replac ement" .
& WARNING
• Use care when using the cigarette lighte r. Inattentive or unsu­
pervised u se of the cigarette lighter can cause burns - risk of
i njury!
• The cigarette lighter works when the ignition is switched off or
with the ignition key removed . Children should never be left unsu­
pervised in the vehicle, or there could be risk of fire!
• The power outlets and therefore the electrical accessories
connected to them operate only with the ignition on. Improper
use of the outlets or of electrical accessories can lead to serious
injuries or cause a fire. For thi s rea son , children should never be
left unattended in the vehicle -they could be injured!

• Alway s remove object s from the instrument panel. Any items
not put away could slide around in side the vehicle while dr iving or
when accelerating
or when applying the brake s or when driving
around a corner.
• When you are driving make sure that anything you may have
placed in the center console or other sto rage locat ions cannot fall
out into the footwells. In ca se of sudden braking you would not be
able to brake, depress the clutch or accelerate.
• Any pieces of clothing that you have
hung up must not int er­
fere with the driver 's view . The coat hooks a re designed only for
lightweight clothing . Never hang any clothing with hard, pointed
or heavy objects
in the pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects could injure any passengers inside the vehicle. •

T here are holders fo r a pen and a pad of paper in the glove compart ­
ment lid.
On the righ t side in the glove compartmen t is a holder with the key
body into which t he eme rgency key mus t be clip ped to be able to start
the vehicle.

-To open the lid you have to touch the bar => fig. 95
(Arrow ). The lid opens automatically.
- To close the lid, push it up until it engages .
& WARNING
Always keep the lid closed while driving to reduce the risk of injury
during a sudden braking maneuver or in the event of an accident. •
Coat hooks
The coat hooks are located on the side on the pillar in the
rear .
& WARNING
• Make sure that hanging clothing does not obscure the view to
the rear.
• Hang only lightweight clothing and be sure that there are no
heavy or sharp-edged objects in the pockets.
• Do not use coat hangers to hang the clothing otherwise the
efficacy of the head air bags* is compromised. •

Warm and cold
Deluxe automatic climate control
Applies to vehicles : wit h deluxe automat ic climat e cont ro l
Description
The climate control system can be used to set a comfort­
able temperature inside the vehicle.
The climate control system is a combination of a heating and ventila­
tion system as well a cooling system responsible for dehumidifying
and cooling the air inside the vehicle.
Th e automatic climate control system automatically maintains a
temperature once it has been set. The temperature of the air from
the vents, fan speed (air volume) and air distribution are a lso auto­
matically adjusted. The system also takes into account strong
sunlight so that manual adjustment is not necessary . So in almost all
cases,
automatic mode offers the best conditions for the comfort of
the occupants at all times of the year=>
page 97.
Please note the following :
The cooling mode lowers the humid ity level inside the vehicle. This
prevents fogging up of the windows.
In the case of high outside humidity and temperatures,
condensation
can drip from the air conditioning system evaporator and form a pool
under the vehicle . This is normal and not an indication of leaks!
At low outside temperatures, the fan automatically switches to a
higher speed when the coo lant reaches a sufficient temperature
except in the defroster position .
When starting with fu ll thrott le, the compressor of the automatic
climate control system is temporarily switched off to achieve full
eng ine power .
T o ensure engine cooling when the engine is under an extreme load,
the compressor is switched off at high coolant temperatures.

Pollutant filter
The pollutant fi
lter (particle filter) ensures that impurities in the
outs ide air (e.g. dust, pollen) and odors are significantly reduced or
stopped . The air is also filtered in recirculation mode.
T he pollutant filter e lement must be changed at the intervals speci­
fied in the service plan so that the performance of the automatic
climate contro l system is not impaired.
If the effectiveness of the filter dec reases prematurely due to opera­
tion of the vehicle in areas with significant pollution, the filter
element must be changed between the specified service dates.
Key recognition
Th e cur rent automatic clima te control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the master key.
Energy management
To prevent the battery from being discharged and to restore the
balance of energy, components which require large amounts of
energy are temporarily cut back or switched off=>
page 243. Heating
systems in particular require a great deal of energy. If you notice , for
example, that the rear window heater is not heating, then it has been
temporarily reduced or switched off by
energy management . These
systems are available again as soon as the energy balance has been
restored.
& WARNING
Traffic safety requires all window s to be clear of ic e, snow, and
condensation. Only then can good visibility be ensured . Famil­
iarize yourself with the correct operation of the automatic climate
control system as well as the proper procedure for defog-
ging/defrosting the windows. _,.

Recirculation mode (~I
The recirculation mode prevents polluted outside air
from entering the vehicle interior.
A ctiva ting
- Press the button [cD] => &.

[AUTO] button.
In recirculation mode, air is drawn from the vehicle interior, filtered
and recirculated . We recommend selecting recirculation mode under
the following conditions:
When driving through a tunnel or in a traffic jam so that exhaust
fumes and odors cannot enter the vehicle interior.

You can adjust the air distr ibut ion so that air flows from specific
vents. In position

flows to the drive r or passenger, and in position

footwell. There are additional combinations available to adjust air
distribution as needed .
To regulate air distribution automatically, switch to
! AU TO].
When the radio or MMI" is turned on, the air distribution setting
appea rs for a few seconds on the screen. •

The windshield and side windows are defrosted or cleared

switch the system off to avoid further damages, and have i t inspected
by a qua lified dealersh ip. •
Repairs to the Audi a ir conditioner require special techn ica l knowl­
edge and special tools . Co ntact an a uth orized Audi dealer fo r assis­
tance .
(I] Tips
• To avoid adversely affecting heating and cooling performance and
to prevent condensation on the windows, the air intake in front of the
w indshield must be free of ice, snow and leaves.
• Th e air flowing out of the vents and througho ut the veh icle's
entire inter ior is discharged at the rea r of the vehicle . Make su re that
the o utlet s lots are not covered by clothing, etc.
• Climate control works most effective ly if the windows and the
panoramic sliding/tilt ing sunroof * are closed. However, if the interior
of a parked vehicle is extremely hot from the sun, briefly opening the
windows can speed up the cooling process. •

The automatically preset fan speed can be reduced or
increased .

- Rotate the regulator to set the des ired fan speed (air

The clima te control system automatically regula tes fan speed based
on the interior temperature . You can adjust the volume of a ir
produced by the fan to your own requirements.
W hen the MMI display is tur ned on, t he fan speed setting appears for
a few seconds on the screen .

• It is possible that the fan speed may change automatically . This
occurs to ens ure that the desired temperature set ting is reached as
quickly as possible.
• T he fan speed cannot be reg ulated separately for the dr ive r and
front passenger .•

- Push the lever against the steeri ng column un til it loc ks.
T here must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) between your chest and the
cen ter o f the stee ring whee l. If you canno t sit more than 10 inches
(25 cm) from the steer ing wheel , see if adaptive equ ipment is avail­
able to help you reach the pedals and increase t he distance from the
steering wheel.

off. For veh icles with seat memory, the individual positions for the
stee ring wheel ca n be st ored along wi th t he sea t pos it ion.
& WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment and improper seating
position can cause serious personal injury .
• Adjust the steer ing wheel column only when the vehicle is not
moving to prevent loss of vehicle control.
• Adjust the dri ver's seat or steering wheel so that there is a
minimum of 10 inches (25 cm) between your che st and the
steering wheel=>
page 172, fig. 164. If you cannot maintain th is
minimum distance , the airbag system cannot protect you prop­
erly .
• If phy sical limitations prevent you from sitting 10 in ches (25
cm) or more from the steering wheel, check with your authorized
Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is available.
• If the steering wheel is al igned w ith your face , the supp le­
mental driver 's airbag cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the steering wheel is aligned with
your chest.
• Always hold the steering wheel with your hands at the 9 o 'clock
and 3 o'clo ck position s to reduce the risk of personal injury if the
driver 's airbag deploys .
• Never hold the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock po sition or with
your hands inside the steering wheel
rim or on the steer ing wheel
hub. Holding the stee ring wheel the wrong way can cause serious
injur ies to the hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys. •

Ignition Lock and ignition switch
Starting engine with the key
The ignition is switched on and the engine started with
the ignition key.

-Insert the key into the ignition lock.
-fvtanual transmission: Fully depress the clutch pedal and
move the shift lever to the neutral position.
-Automatic transmission*: Step on the brake pedal and
move the selector lever to the
P or N position.
- Press the key=> fig. 107 -the engine will start .
By pressing the key without stepping on the clutch or the brake, the
ign ition is switched on and off. With the ignition on, the steering
wheel is unlocked.
You can only remove the key with the ignition switched off . To do this,
you have to press on the key again. With an automatic transmiss ion,
the selector lever must be in the
P position.
When starting the engine, major electrical loads are switched off
temporarily . After
starting a cold engine, there may be a brief period of increased
noise because the oil pressure must first build up in the hydraulic
valve adjusters . This is normal and not a cause for concern .
If the engine should not start immediately, the starting process is
automatically stopped after a short time. Repeat starting procedure.
Driver message in the instrument cluster display
Press brake pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not step on the brake pedal to start
the engine on a vehicle w ith an automatic transmission .
Press clutch pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not step on the clutch pedal to start
th e engine on a vehicle with a manual transmission.
Engage N or P to start engine
This message appears when attempting to start the engine if the
selector lever for the automatic transmission is not in the
P or N posi­
tion . The engine can only be started with the selector in these posi­
tions.
Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away. Doors do not lock if lever
is not in P.
Thi s message appears for safety reasons along with a warning signal.
It appears if the selector lever for the automatic transmission is not
in the
P position after the ignition is switched off . Move the selector
lever to the
P position, otherw ise the vehicle is not secured against
rolling away. You also cannot lock the vehicle using the locking
button on the door handle or using the remote key.
& WARNING
• Always take the key with you whenever you leave your vehicle.
Otherwise, the engine could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operated. This can lead to
serious injury.
