This reminder appears along with the II symbol
if the master key is removed from the vehicle
with the eng ine running. It is intended to remind
you (e .g. when changing drivers) not to continue
the journey without the master key .
If the master key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch off the ignit ion after stopping the
e ngine and you a lso cannot start the engine
aga in . You also cannot lock the veh icle from the
outsid e.

If the symbol illum inates, the light sensor has
failed. For safety reasons the low beams are
tu rned on permanently with the sw itch in
AUTO .
However, you can contin ue to turn the lights on
and off using the light sw itch. In the case of a de
f ect in the rain sensor, the windshie ld wiper lever
functions are still available. Have the light/rain
sensor checked as soon as possib le by an author
i zed Audi dealer.

When the II symbol illum inates, you can alte r
your driving style to assist the fi lter self-clean ing
process . Drive for approximately 15 minu tes wi th
the selector lever in the S position at a minimum
speed of 37 mph (60 km/h) and an engine speed
of approximately 2,000 RPM. The temperature
increase that will result from this can burn off
the soot in the fi lter. The symbol will sw itch off
when the clean ing is successful. After a success
ful cleaning, there is no need to b ring the car to
an author ized deal er or qualified wo rkshop be
cause this is part of normal ve hicle operation.

- You cannot open the doors o r the rear lid from
the
outside (increased security, for example
when you are stopped at a red light) .
- The diodes in the power locking switches illumi
nate when all the doors are closed and locked.
- Front doors: yo u can un lock and open the doors
from the inside by pulling on the door handle.
- Rear doo rs: pull the door handle
once to re
lease the lock. Pull the hand le
again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is act ivated,
the doors automatically un lock.
A WARNING
- The power locking sw itch works with the ig
nition off and automatically locks the entire
vehicle when it is actuated.
- On a vehicle locked from the outs ide the
power locking system switch is inoperative.
- Locked doors make it more difficu lt for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts lives at risk. Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially children.

Emergency locking of the doors
Each door mus t be locked separately if the pow
er locking sys tem fails.

An emergency lock is located on the front end of
the passenger's door and the rear doors (only
visible when door is open).
• Take the mechanical key out of the master key
¢page 37 .
• Pull the cover cap out of the opening ¢ fig. 33.
• Insert the key in the inside slot and turn it all
the way to the right (right door) or left (left
door) .
Once the door has been closed, it can no longer
be opened from the outside. The door can be
opened from th e inside by pulling the door han
dle. If the child safety lock in a rear door is acti
vated , you must first pull the door handle on the
inside . T hen you can open the door from the out
s ide .

difficult for the lid to move.

Closing will be stoppe d immed iate ly when :

- when something blocks the rear lid or makes it

The pressing the lock button or the handle re peatedly, you can open/stop the lid ¢ .&. .
You can manua lly stop the a utomatic opening/
closing of the luggage compartment lid. In this
situation, the lid can be manua lly opened. Press
down on the lid and the automatic closing will re
sume once again .
_& WARNING
-Never close the rea r lid inattentively o r with
ou t checking fi rst. Although the clos ing
for ce of the rear lid is lim ite d, you can s till
serio usly inju re yourse lf or o thers.

locks . The lock is only visib le when the door is

Child safety locks
When the safety button® c> fig. 40 is pressed,
the ~ symbol in the button lights up. The power
window switches in the rear doors are switched
off .
A WARNING
-W hen you leave you r vehicle - even if only
briefly -always remove the ignition key. This
applies pa rticula rly when children remain in
the vehicle. Otherwise t he ch ild ren could
s t art the e ngi ne or operate ele ct rical eq uip
men t (e.g. p ower windows). The power w in
dows are functional unt il the dr iver's door or
passenger's door has been ope ned.
- Pay close attention w he n closing t he win
dows to p revent p inching of hands o r limbs .
- W hen locking the ve hicle from outside, the
vehi cle must be unoccupied since the win
dows can no longer be opened in an emer
gency .

After t he ig nit ion has bee n swi tc h ed off , th e
windows can st ill be o pened or closed for
a bo ut 10 m inutes. The power windows are
not switched off until the driver's door or pas
senger's door has been opened .

erate the Panoramic sliding sunroof for about 10
minutes . As soon as the driver's or passenger's
door is opened, the switch is inoperative .
The power sunshade can also be closed when the Panoramic sliding sunroof is open .
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when closing the Panor
amic sliding sunroof -otherwise serious injury
cou ld result! For th is reason, always remove
the ignition key when leaving the vehicle .

Always close your Panoram ic sliding sunroof
when leav ing you r vehicle. Sudden rain can
cause damage to the interior equipment of
your veh icle, particularly the electron ic equ ip
ment.

You can activate var ious systems such as garage
doors, security systems and home lighting from in side your vehicle using the garage door opener
(Homelink). There are three buttons for th is in
the vehicle headliner that can be in used in place
of up to three hand-held transmitters.
To operate systems using the garage door open
er, the three buttons in the roof headliner must
be programmed first .
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the im
mediate vicinity of the equipment when using
or programming the garage door opener. Peo ple can be injured and objects can be dam
aged if they are caught in the equipment.

W ith the swi tch i n the AUTO position, the low
beams are switched o n automatically depend ing
on the ambient light, fo r example in a tunnel, at
dusk and when it is raining or sno win g . When th e
low beams are switched on, the

on . The low beams rema in switched on regard
less of the amb ient light when you turn on the
fog lights .
When you turn
off the ignition, the low beams
are automatically switched

t he high-b eam function available . However , if you
have not switched high beams back to low beams
while dr iving with automatic headlight control ,
on ly the low beams come on the next time you
turn o n automatic headlight control. In order to

the high beam lever back to the no rma l posit ion
and t hen push the lever forwa rd .
Light sensor malfunction
In the event o f a light sensor malfunction, the
driver is notified in the instrument cluster dis
play:

- Automatic headlights are only intended to
as sis t the driver. T hey do no t re lieve the
driver of his re sponsibili ty to c heck th e
headligh ts and to turn them o n manually
according to the c urrent light and visibility
conditions . For e xamp le, fog cannot be de
tected by the light sensors. So always switch
on t he headlights
io unde r these weather
conditions and whe n driving in the dark .
- Cras hes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by ot her motorists. Always turn on the
headl ights so that you ca n se e ahead a nd so
that others can se e yo ur car fro m the back.
- Please obey all laws when usi ng the lighting
sys tems described her e.

- The light sensor for headlight control is lo
cated in the rear v iew mirror mount . You
should therefore not app ly any st ickers to
the windsh ield in this area in o rder to pre
vent malfunctions or fail ures.
