EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control.
The ~ warn ing/ indicator light (Electron ic
Power Control) illuminates when you switch
on the ignition as a function check .
(D Tips
If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are dr iving, then there is a mal­
function in the engine elect ron ics. Have
t he malfunction co rrected as soon as pos­
sible by you r autho rized Aud i dea ler o r
qualif ied workshop .
~ Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The symbol
l\l lights up when the ignition is
turned on and will turn off after the engine
h as started and has settled at constant idle
speed . Th is ind icates that the MIL is working
properly .
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunct ion i n the engine electronic system.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer and have
the ma lfunction corrected.

speed displayed in the driver in format ion sys­
tem. Keep in mind that the engine speed wi ll
not exceed the val ue disp layed in the driver in­
format ion system, for example when down­
shifting.
P lease go to an au thorized A udi dealer or oth ­
er qualified wo rkshop to have the malfunctio n
repaired.

there are about 1.9 gallons (7 liters) of fuel
left in the fuel tank. Time to refuel!

® Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you
when a vehicle light bulb has become defec­
tive.
If a defect ive bulb has been detected by the
system or a light bu lb burns out, the
fsl sym­
bol with a message appears in the disp lay to
tell you wh ich bu lb is burnt out and where it is
l ocated. For example:
Rear left turn signal
After 5 seconds, the message disappears. If
you want to recall the message into the dis­
p lay, press the CH ECK button

There are three reasons why the defective
bulb message would appear in the display:
- The light bulb has burnt out

- The fuse is "blown" Q page 228, Replacing
fuses.
- The wire connection to the light bu lb is de-
fective.
H ave the bu lb rep laced or the connection re­
pa ired by your a uthorized Audi Service depart­
ment.
A WARNING
- Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode wh ile they are being changed caus­
ing serious pe rsonal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
h igh-voltage sect ion of gas discharge
(xenon) lamps. Fa iling to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury!
BRAKE LIGHT t<® > Brake light defective
In case of a ma lfunction or component fail-
ure, the symbo l (USA models)/
(@ ll <Canada mode ls) can appear. The fo llow­
ing electrical components should be checked,
repaired or replaced, as necessary:
- Brake light bulbs
- All wir ing connections
- Brake light switch
Contact your authorized Audi dea ler for assis­
tance if necessary.
(D Tips
The brake light sw itch is on ly inspected as
part of the functional check after the en­
gine is started.
i,0 Headlight range control defective
Applies to vehicles: wit h dynamic headlight range adjust­
ment
If the II illuminates, the dynamic headlight
range control is no longer working properly.
Have the system checked and repaired at your
authorized Audi dealer .
rsO Adaptive light defective
Applies to vehicles: with Ada ptive Lig ht
rm Adaptive light defective
When this symbol rm illuminates, it means
that Adaptive Light is defect ive. Go to a qua li­
fied workshop to have the headlights or the
control unit for the Adaptive Light repaired.

@:> Light/rain sensor defective
Applies to vehicles: with a utomat ic head lights
The indicator light indicates a defect in the
automatic headlights/automatic wiper sys­
tem .
If the symbol illuminates, the light sensor has
failed . For safety reasons, the low beams are
turned on permanently with the switch in
A U­
TO . However , you can continue to turn the
lights on and off using the light switch . In the
case of a defect in the rain sensor, the w ind­
shie ld wiper lever functions are sti ll available.
Have the light/rain sensor checked as soon as
possible at an authorized Audi dealer.
; Audi magnetic ride
App lies to vehicles: with Audi magnetic ride
The indicator light monitors vehicle damping .
The indicato r light B illum inates when the ig­
n it ion is switched o n as a funct ion check.
(j) Tips
If the ind icator lamp illum inates while you
are driving, there is a malfunct ion in the
veh icle damping. The chass is should be in­
spected immediately by an authorized
Audi dea ler .
:::/, Rear spoiler
The warning/indicator light monitors the
electrically retractable rear spoiler.
The warning/indicator light l'J has the fol­
l owing f un ctions:
- It comes on for about 3 seconds as a func­
t ion check when the ignition is sw itched on .
- It comes on if there is a malfunction in the
electrically retractable rear spoiler .

¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal .
Whenever you use the left II or the r ight II
turn s ignal, the indica tor light blinks. When
you use the emergency flasher, both indicator lights flash .
If one of the turn signa l light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor­
mal.

Introduction
The Driver information display inside the in ­
strument cluster provides you, the driver ,
with important information.

Some f unctions and vehicle components are
scanned for the ir operating status when you
s witch the ign ition on and whi le you are driv­
ing . Malfunctions or required service proce­
dures are s ignaled audibly and ind icated by
red and yellow illuminated symbols and re­
minders in t he d isplay.

- Neve r rely ex clusively o n the o utside
tempera ture display to de termine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in m ind
that road surfaces, espec ially br idges
and overpasses, co uld be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature

-Always remember, even if the "snow­
f lake" symbo l (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice co uld be on
the road .
- Always red uce your speed and d rive with

- If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
dr iving at a very low speed , the tempera­
t u re shown in the d isplay might be
slightly h igher than the actua l o utside
tempe rature. Thi s is caused by the heat
be ing rad iated from t he engine.
- On ve hicles with Audi Nav igation sys­
tem*, the disp lays may differ from their
normal appe aran ce during navig ation.

Displaying intermediate time and pausing
timing
• To disp lay an intermediate time, press the
l ower section of the wiper switch @. The in­
termediate time appears in line
CD and is

• To pause timing, press the lower section of
the wiper switch @again.
• To continue timing, press the upper section
of the w iper switch @.
If t iming is paused, you can conti nue it later
even if you switch the ign it ion off.
Evaluating times and continuing or
resetting timing

You can evaluate the fastest, slowest and
average lap times.

proximately 2 seconds. The display shows
the fastest lap"+", the slowest lap"-" and
the average lap time "0".

• To reset th e timer to zero, press and hold

2 seconds.
• To switch the lap timer off completely,
press the
I RESET I button briefly.
@ Tips
-Saved lap times cannot be individually
deleted from the total results.
- The saved lap timer values will not be
l ost after turning the ignit ion off .
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) &ii in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
T he warning/indicator light ill uminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the id le has stabilized.
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv ­
ing, a malfunction may exist in the engine sys­
tem .
If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged .
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer.
If the light il luminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be malfunctioning. For more

An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Boa rd Diagnostics monitors the compo ­
nents of your emission contro l system. Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been assigned a code. In case of a .,.

malfunction, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control module memory.
The MI L light may a lso illuminate if there is a
l eak in the on-board fue l vapor recovery sys­
tem . If the light illuminates after a refuelling,
stop the veh icle and make sure the fue l filler
cap is properly closed ¢
page 178.
In o rder to make an accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can only be displayed using spe­
cial diagnostic equipment (gener ic scan tool
for OBD).
I n o rder to connect the special diagnostic
equipment, push the plug into the Data Link
Connector (DLC) . The DLC is located to the
right of the hood release ¢

Your authorized Audi dealer or a qualified
service station can interpret the code and per­
form the necessary repair .
A WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for
personal use. Incorrect usage can cause
malfunctions, which can increase the risk
of a coll is ion!
Electronic speed limiter
-
Your veh icle may be factory equipped with
tires that are rated for a maximum speed of
130 mph (210 km/h) . T his is less than the
maximum speed o f yo ur vehicle. To reduce the
risk of s udden tire failure and loss o f control if
the vehicle is operated at excessive speeds,
your vehicle also has an electronic speed limit­
er. The electronic speed limiter prevents your
veh icle from going faster than the tire speed
rating. For more informat ion ¢

If the engine control unit rece ives fau lty vehi­

Your vehicle's top speed is electron ically limit ­
ed to 175 mph (280 km/h).

A WARNING

A lways observe the posted speed lim its
and adjust your speed to suit prevailing road, traffic and weather conditions. Never
drive your vehicle faster than the maxi­
mum speed rating of the tires installed.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. To fold the key out and back

The valet key on ly fits the lock in the driver's
door and the ignition lock. If you have to leave
the key with somebody e lse, you are well-ad­
vised to turn over the valet key only.
Be aware that the rear lid and glove compart­
ment can be opened from inside the vehicle
using the release buttons .

The eme rgency key is only for temporary use if
the vehicle key should be lost or misplaced

Registered ke ys
You can check to find out how many keys have
been reg istered to your vehicle. Therefore,
when buy ing a used veh icle, make sure to get
all of the keys that belong to it.

unauthorized persons could endange r
you o r result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle. A lways loc k all doors a nd take the
key.
- D o not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially wi th access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro ­
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­ supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by children can result in ser ious in­
jury.
{!) Tips
- If you open the driver's door with the key
left in the ignit ion lock, a chime will
sound . Th is is your rem inder to remove
the key and lock the door.
- For security reasons, rep lacement keys
are only ava ilable from Audi dealers .

34 Opening and closing
Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors simultaneously.
The power lock ing system in your ve hicle in­
corporates the fo llow ing funct ions:
- Central locking function
- Remote con tro l feature q page 33 .
- Anti -Theft Alarm Sys tem q page 38.
A ll the doors and the rear lid are locked by the
centra l locking system when you lock the vehi­
cle.
The unlocking a nd lock ing mode * can be
changed in t he d river i nfo rmation system
qpage24.
Unlocking the vehicle
You can un lock the vehicle from outs ide e ither
by using the remote control
or by insert ing
a nd turning the key in t he driver's door lock.
When you
unlock your veh icle:
- The anti-theft alarm system is deactivated br iefly.
- The veh icle inter ior lights ill uminate for ap­
proximate ly 30 seconds.
- All turn signa l lights will f lash twice w hen
the car is unlocked.
- After unlock ing the vehicle, yo u have 30 sec­
onds to open a door or the rear lid. After 30
seconds, the vehicle automatically locks and
the ant i-theft a larm system activates again.
The rear lid can be locked or un locked either
by using the remote control
or by insert ing
a nd turning the key in the driver's door lock.
Unlock ing the ve hicle w ith the remote co ntrol
c::::5 will only unlock the rear lid, to open it, the
lid handle needs to be p ressed .
Locking the vehicle
You can lock the vehicle from o utside e ither by
using the remote control
or by insert ing and
turning the key in the drivers's door lock.
When you
lo ck the vehicle:
- All doors and the rear lid are locked. -
All turn signal lights wi ll flash once when
the car is loc ked .
- The ant i-theft a larm system is ac tiva ted.
The ho rn of the anti -theft alarm system wi ll
sound and t he anti-theft a la rm system read­
iness light, located in the center of the in­
strument panel be low the w indshield on the
r ight side of the air vent, will start to blink.
- The vehicle interior lights turn off.
Automat ic lock ing*
T he au tom atic locking fea ture locks a ll the ve­
hicle doors an d the rear lid when you drive
faster than 9 m ph (15 km/h).
You can unlock t he vehi cle from the i nside by:
- remov ing the key from the igni tion swi tc h
(the vehi cle w ill automatically u nlock itself)
or
- pressi ng the un loc k pa rt of the power lock
sw itch
ll:D or
pull ing the door ha ndle (to open the doo r).
If you wish, yo u can have an a utho rized Aud i
dealer convert your power doo r lock system to
automat ic locking.
Unintentionally locking yourself out

side th e wi ndows cannot be o pened from
the inside.

move the ign ition key and take it w ith
