Adjust ing the m anu al se ats
Position, angle and shape of the manual seats can be
adjusted to provide safe and comfortable seating.
Reed and heed all WARNINGS=:> & before you adjust your
seat.
Moving the front seats forward or backward
- Lift the lever (D =:> page 88, fig. 80 and slide the seat to
the desired position.
- Release the lever and then move the seat further until
you feel and hear it engage.
Adjusting the seat height
- Pull
the lever 0 up and pump it to raise the seat.
-Push the lever down and pump it to lower the seat.
Adjusting the seatback angle
-Lean forward to take your weight off the seatback.
- Turn the hand wheel© in the direction you want the
seatback to tilt .
& WARNING
• Never adjust the driver's or front passenger's seat while the
vehicle is moving. If you do this while the vehicle is moving, you
will be out of position . Always adjust the driver's or front
passenger's seat when the vehicle is not moving.
• Be careful when adjusting the seat height. Check to see that no
one is in the way, or serious injury could result!

• To reduce the risk of injury in the case of sudden braking or
accident, front passengers must never ride in a moving vehicle
with the seatback reclined . Safety belts and the airbag system
only offer maximum protection when the seatback is upright and
the safety belts are properly positioned on the body. The more the
seatback is reclined, the greater the risk of personal injury from an
incorrect seating position and improperly positioned safety
belts! •

Adjustment switches
The operating logic for the switches corresponds to the
construction and function of the seat.

Push or pull either switch in exactly the same direction you like the
corresponding part of the seat to move.

• Never adjust the driver's or front passenger seat while the
vehicle is moving. If you do this while the vehicle is moving, you
will be out of position . Always adjust the driver's or front
passenger seat when the vehicle is not moving .

• Because the seats can be electrically adjusted with the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattended in the vehicle. Unsu­
pervised use of the electric seat adjustments may cause serious
injury. •

Power seat adjustment
The switches can be moved in various directions to allow
precise adjustment.

Push or pull the switch in the same direction you like the
seat cushion to move.
Moving the seat forward and backward G)
- Press the switch forward or backward horizontally=>& .
Adjusting the seat height 0 and 0 together
Pull the switch evenly at both ends to raise the seat =>& .
-Push the lever evenly at both ends to lower the seat=> &.
Angling the seat cushion up and down 0 or 0
To angle the seat cushion up, pull the switch at the front
only =>& .
Alternatively, push the sw itch at the rear only =>& .
To angle the seat cushion down, push the switch at the

Alternatively , pull the switch at the rear only =>& .

Lumbar support
The lumbar support can be adjusted to fit the natural
curvature of the occupant's spine .
Adjusting the curvature

Never adjust the lumbar support while the vehicle is moving. If you
adjust your seat while the vehicle is moving, you will be out of
position. Always adjust the lumbar support when the vehicle is
not moving. •
Head restraints
Adjusting head r estraints , front seats
The head restraints must be adjusted properly to provide
protection.

head restraint:
adjusting the height
The head restraints on the front seats can be adjusted to
provide safe support to head and neck at the optimum
height. When optimally adjusted, the top of the restraint
should be level with the top of the head=:>
page 132,
"Proper adjustment of head restraints".
Raising head restraint
-Grasp the side of the head restraint with both hands. -
Adjust the head restraints so that the top of the head
restraint is
at least level with your eyes or higher
=:> fig. 85.
Lowering head restraint
- Grasp the sides of the head restraint with both hands.
- Press the button=:> fig. 85 and adjust the head restraint.
- Adjust the head restraints so that the top of the head
restraint is
at least level with your eyes or higher
=:> fig. 85.
Refer to=> page 132, "Proper adjustment of head restraints" for
guidelines on how to adjust the height of the front head restraints
to fit the occupant's body size.
& WARNING
• Driving without head restraints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk of serious or fatal neck
injury dramatically.
• Read and heed all WARNINGS =>
page 132.

Correctly adjusted head restraints and safety belts are an extremely
effective combination of safety features .•

Luggage compartment
Applies to vehicles: with pass-through and removable ski bag
Pass-through with Ski Bag
Using the pass-through and the removable ski bag, you
can transport long objects (e.g. skis) neatly and without
damaging the interior.

-To unlock it, pull the handle and fold the cover of the
pass -through to the trunk=> fig. 86.

- Flip the cover upward in the direction of the arrow.
- Open the trunk lid.
- Push the ski bag from the trunk through the opening in
the rear wall

- Load up the ski bag.
Securing
Hook the ski bag's safety strap @=>fig. 87.
Adjust the retaining strap® to the desired length.
- Clip the retaining strap.
Storage
- Unhook the ski bag's safety strap@=> fig. 87.
- Fold the cover => fig. 86 downward in the opposite direc-
tion of the arrow .
- Loosen the retaining strap @.
Pull the ski bag backward through the rear wall.
- Close the cover of the pass-through to the trunk.
- Close the flip cover to the storage compartment between
the seatbacks => page
97.
- If necessary , collapse the ski bag.
& WARNING
After loading, the ski bag must be secured w ith the safety strap.

& WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident and personal injury .
• Never carry any beverage containers with hot liquids , such as
hot coffee or hot tea , in the veh icle while it is moving . In case of an
accident, sudden braking or other vehicle movement , hot liquid
could spill , causing scalding burns . Spilled hot l iquid can a lso
c ause an ac cident and per sonal injury .
• Use only soft cups in the cupholder . Hard cups and glasses can
cause injury in an accident .
• Never use the cupholder or adapter as an ashtray -risk of fire.

Only drink containers with lids should be carried in the cupholder.
Liquid cou ld spill out and damage your ve hicles electronic equip ­
ment or stain the upholstery, etc. •
Ashtray
Opening the ashtray
-Slide t he cover open.
Removing ashtray insert

- Press the asht ray insert back into i ts hol der.
& WARNING
Never put waste paper in the ashtray . Hot ashes or other hot
objects in the ashtray could set waste paper on fire .•

Cigarette lighter/socket
Cigarette lighter
The socket of the cigarette lighter may be used for 12 volt
appliances.

The cigarette lighter or socket only work with the ignition
on.
Using the cigarette lighter
- Slide the cover open to reach the c igarette lighter.
- Push the knob=> fig. 90 in .
- Wait until the cigarette lighter knob pops out.
- Remove the cigarette lighter immediately and use it.
- Reinsert cigarette lighter into the socket after use.
Connecting an appliance
- Slide the cover open to reach the cigarette lighter.
- Remove cigarette lighter.
- Plug in appliance to be used .

The socket of the cigarette lighter may be used for 12-volt appli­
ances with maximum consumption of up to 100 watts , such as a
flash ligh t, small vacuum cleaner, etc.
Before you purchase any accessories, always read and follow the
information in=>
page 296, "Additional accessories and parts
replacement" .
& WARNING
Improper use of the cigarette lighter can cause serious injury or
start a fire.
• Be careful when using the cigarette lighter. If you do not pay
attention to what you are doing when you are using the cigarette
lighter you can burn yourself.

To avoid damaging the socket, only use plugs that fit properly.

• When the engine is off and accessories are still plugged in and
are on, the vehicle battery can still be drained.
• The vehicle battery must not be charged with a standard small
charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter or outlet .•

• Always remove objects from the instrument panel. Any items
not put away could slide around inside the vehicle while driving or

when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when driving
around a corner.
• When you are driving make sure that anything you may have
placed in the center console or other storage locations cannot fall
out into the footwells . In case of sudden braking you would not be
able to brake, depress the clutch or accelerate. •
Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and can be locked .

- Pull the handle=> fig. 91 in the direct ion of the arrow
push down lid to the fully open position.
To close glove compartment
Push the glove compartment lid upward until the lock
engages.
You will find a glass case in the lid .
CD changer*
The CD changer for the Sound System is located in the glove
compartmen t.

To reduce the risk of personal injury in an accident or sudden stop,
always keep the glove compartment closed while driving. •

Storage compartment in the front seats
There is a fold-out storage compartment in the front of the
seats.
Opening
- Lift the handle and pull the drawer ou t.
Closing
- Push the drawer in completely until it latches.

The air conditioning automatically maintains the selected
temperature in the vehicleinterior throughout each
se aso n.

We recomme nd the following setting:
Rotate the knob=> fig. 93 @to th e right to switch on the
air conditioning.
Set t he temperature to 72 °F ( 22 °Cl.
Press th e !AUTO ]=> fig . 93 button.
Using the previously recommended setting is the quickest way to
achieve a comfortable climate in the vehicle . T his setting should
therefore on ly be changed when persona l comfort levels or certain
circumstances require it .
The climate contr ols are a combination of automatic heating and
ventilation systems and a cooling system which dehumidifies and coo ls the a ir inside the veh ic le .
The climate controls automa tically ma intain a temperature once it
has been set . T he temperature of the air from the vents, fan speed
(air volume) and air dis tribution are also automa tica lly adjusted . The
system also takes into account strong sunshine so that manual
adjustment is no t necessary. So in al most a ll cases,
automatic mode
offers the best conditions for the comfort of the occupants at all
times of the year~

Please note :
In cooling mode, relative humidity in the interior is reduced. This
prevents the w indows from fogging up.
When relative humidity and temperatures outside are high,
conden­
sate
can drip from the air conditioning evaporator and form a poo l
of water under the vehicle . This is normal and not an indication of a
leak!
When outside temperatures are low, the fan does not switch to a
higher speed until the coolant has reached an adequate tempera­
ture, with the exception of the defrost setting .
When accelerating at wide -open throttle, the air conditioning
compressor is temporarily switched off to maintain full engine
power .
I n order to ensure eng ine cooling under extreme engine loads, the
compressor is switched off if coolant temperatures climb too high. _,,,
