-The light illuminates when the folding top
opens or closes .
- It flashes if one of the conditions for auto­
matically lowering or raising the convertib le
top is not met and the switch to actuate the convertible top is pressed.
- The light i lluminates when the convertib le
top is opened or closed
incompletely.
nl /J Electronic stabilization program
(ESP)
If the G1 i ndicator lamp blinks while dr iv ing,
the ESP or ASR (Ant i-S lip Regulation) is active­
l y regulating.
If the G1 indicator lamp illuminates, the sys ­
tem has sw itched the ESP off. In this case, you
can switch the ignition off and then on to
switch the ESP on again. The system is func­
tioning completely whe n the indicator lamp
switches off .
I f the
I indicato r lamp illuminates, the ESP
was switched off with the
[ru bu tton.
ESP/ ABS fault! See owner's manual
If the G1 indicator lamp and the ll] ABS indi­
cator lamp illuminate and the dr iver message
appears, the ABS or e lectronic differential lock
is malfunctioning. This also interrupts the
E SP . The brakes st ill function with the ir nor­
mal power, but ABS is not active.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dea ler immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected .

~ Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Ind icator Lamp (MIL) is part
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system .
The symbol
rfl lights up when the ignition is
turned o n and will turn off after the engine
has started and ha s settled at constant idle
speed. This ind icates that the MIL is working
p roperly.
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunction in the engine e lectronic system. Contact
your authorized Audi dea ler and have
the malfunction corrected .
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

[D High beam
The . warn ing/ indicato r light illum inates
when the high beams are on or when you use
the headlight flasher. For more information
about using the high beams, see¢
page 55.
-::}. Rear spoiler
The warning/indicator light monitors the
electrically retractable rear spoiler .
The warning/indicator light I! has the follow­
ing functions:
- It comes on for about 3 seconds as a func­
tion check when the ignition is switched on.
- It comes on if there is a malfunction in the
electrically ret ra ctab le rea r spo ile r.

¢¢Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal.
Whenever you use the left II or the right II
turn s ignal, the indicator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flasher, both indicator
lights flash.
If one of the turn signa l light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor­
mal.

When a yellow symbol appears, a warning
tone will sound
once. Check the d isp layed
f u nction as soon as possib le. If
more than one
malfunction is detected, a ll symbols will ap­
pear one after the other for abou t two sec­
onds.
Driver information
In addition to th e warning/indicator lights
a nd the symbols in the inst rument cluster dis­
play, driver information is displayed.

To display Driver information
As an examp le, the . symbo l appears in the
display. If yo u now p ress the button¢
fig. 26,
the following driver message appears in the display:
Switch off engine and che ck oil level
The driver message in the display goes out af­
te r about 5 seconds. Yo u can display t he drive r
message aga in by briefly pres sing the button.
BRAKE /(©) Brake system
The indicator light flashes if the brake fluid
level is too low, if there is a malfunction in
t he ABS sys tem o r when the parking brake is
engaged.
If the - (USA models),1111 (Canada
model s) symbo l flashes in the d isplay w it h t he
par king brake rele ase d, there is a mal func tion
in the brake system. In ad dition to the sym­
bo l, one o f two messages appears in the dis ­
play :
STOP V ehicle and check brake fluid
ABS fault! See Owner's manual

.,. Obtain profess iona l assistance.

range control is no longer working properly.
Have the system checked and repaired at your
authorized Audi dealer.

The II! symbol illuminates when there is an
engine control malfunction. The indicator
light ~ in the instrument cluster also illumi­
nates . The engine speed is limited to the
speed displayed in the driver information sys­
tem . Keep in mind that the eng ine speed will
not exceed the va lue disp layed in the driver in­
fo rmation system , fo r example when down­
shifting.
Please go to an authorized Aud i dealer or oth­
er qualified workshop to have the malfunction
r epaired.
O Windshield washer fluid level too low
If the (-J '>ymbol illuminates, add windshield
washer fluid to the washer system

D Battery voltage low
If the (•i symbol illuminates, contact your au­
thor iz ed Audi dealer and have the following
components inspected:
- drive be lt
- battery charge

® Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you
when o vehicle light bulb hos become defec­
tive.
If a defective bulb has been detected by the
system or a light bulb burns out, the
II sym­
bo l with a message appears in the display to
te ll you which bulb is burnt out and where it is
located. For example :
Rear left turn signal
After S seconds, the message disappears. If
you want to recall the message into the dis­
play, p ress the CHECK button

The re are three reasons why the defective
bulb message would appear in the disp lay:
- The light bulb has burnt out¢
page 230 .
-The fuse is "blown" ¢ page 22 7, Replacing
fuses .
-The wire connect ion to the light bulb is de-
fective.
Have the bulb replaced or the connection re­
paired by your authorized Audi Service depart­
ment .
.&, WARNING
-Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode wh ile they are being changed caus­
ing serious pe rsonal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-voltage sect ion of gas discharge
(xenon) lamps. Failing to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury!
BRAKE LIGHT!< ®> Brake light defective
In case of a malfunction or component fail-
ur e, the symbo l (USA models)/
l1J (Canada models) can appear. The follow­
ing electrical components should be checked,
repaired or replaced, as necessary:

- All w iring connections
- Brake light switch
Contact your author ized Audi dealer for assis­
tance if necessary .
(D Tips
The brake light switch is only inspected as
pa rt of the functional check after the en­
gine is started .
@9 Light/rain sensor defective
Applies to vehicles: with a utomat ic headlights
The indicator light indicates a defect in the
automatic headlights/automatic wiper sys ­
tem .
If the symbol illuminates, the light sensor has
failed . For safety reasons, the low beams are
turned on permanently with the switch in
AU­
TO . However, you can continue to turn the
lights on and off using the light switch. In the
case of a defect in the rain senso r, the wind­
shie ld wiper lever functions are still available .
H ave the light/rain sensor checked as soon as
possible at a n authorized Audi dealer .
:sO Adaptive light defective
Applies to vehicles: wit h Adaptive Light
rlJ Adaptive light defective
When this symbo l m;J illuminates, it means
that Adaptive Light is defective. Go to a quali­
fied workshop to have the headlights or the
contro l unit for the Adaptive Light repaired.

Some of the equipment i tems lis ted are op­

change. In the event of discrepancies, the la­
bel on the inside of the cover always takes
precedence.
The power seats are protected by circuit
breakers,
which automatically reset after a
few seconds after the overload has been rem­
edied .
