A Check Control message is displayed in some
of these situations.
Parkingassistant Concept
The system supports parking in the following
situations:
'yWhen parking parallel to the road.'yWhen reverse parking diagonally to the
road.
Generalinformation
Parking assistant handling is divided into three
steps:
'ySwitching on and activating.'yParking space search.'yParking.
Ultrasound sensors measure parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.
The parking assistant calculates the best posj
sible parking line and takes control of steering
during the parking procedure.
System status and instructions on required acj tions are displayed on the Control Display.
The parking assistant uses the sensors of PDC
Park Distance Control.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess the traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysjtem, it cannot independently react to all trafficsituations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch
traffic closely and actively intervene in the rej
spective situations.'

Ultrasoundsensors
The four ultrasound sensors for measuring
parking spaces are located in the front and rear on the side of the vehicle.
Functionalrequirements

Diagonal parking:
'yMinimum width of the gap: own vehicle's width plus approx. 2.6 ft/0.8 m.'yMinimum depth: your vehicle's length.
The depth of diagonal parking spaces must be estimated by the driver. Due to technij
cal limitations, the system is only able to approximate the depth of diagonal parking
spaces.

Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if necesj sary by using the maximum cooling or heatingpower, and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
Do not rapidly switch between different temj perature settings. Otherwise, the automatic clijmate control will not have sufficient time to adj
just the set temperature.
Airconditioning Concept
The air in the vehicle's interior will be cooled
and dehumidified and, depending on the temj
perature setting, warmed again.
The vehicle's interior can only be cooled with
the engine running.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Air conditioning is switched on or off.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and side windows may fog up briefly when the enjgine is started.
The cooling function is switched on automatij cally with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control,
condensation water, refer to page 184, develjops and drains underneath the vehicle. This is
normal.
AUTOprogram
Concept
Depending on the selected temperature and
outside influences, the air is directed to the
windshield, side windows, upper body, and
into the floor area.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Air flow, air distribution and temperaj
ture are controlled automatically.
The cooling function, refer to page 158, is
switched on automatically with the AUTO proj gram.
Recirculated-airmode Concept
You may react to unpleasant odors or polluj tants in the immediate environment by tempojrarily suspending the supply of outside air. Thesystem then recirculates the air flow within thevehicle.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select an
operating mode:'yLED off: outside air flows in continuously.'yLED on, recirculated-air mode: the supply
of outside air into the vehicle is permaj
nently blocked.
To prevent window fogging, recirculated-air
mode switches off automatically after a certain amount of time, depending on the environj
mental conditions.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air
quality in the vehicle's interior deteriorates and the fogging of the windows increases.

needed.
Controllingtheairflowmanually
Concept
The air flow for climate control can be adjusted
manually.
Operation Press the left or right side of the butj
ton: decrease or increase air flow.
The air flow from the air conditioner may be rej
duced automatically to save battery power.
Controllingtheairdistribution

condensation
Direct the air distribution toward windows, injcrease the air flow and temperature, and ifneeded, use the cooling function.
Rearwindowdefroster Press button. The LED lights up.
The rear window defroster switches
off automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter
