"Parking aid lines"
Lanes and turning radius are indicated.
'yObstacle marking
"Obstacle marking"
Spatially-shaped markings are displayed.
Pathwaylines
Pathway lines can be superimposed on the imj
age of the rearview camera.
Pathway lines help you to estimate the space
required when parking and maneuvering on
level roads.
Pathway lines depend on the current steering angle and are continuously adjusted to the
steering wheel movements.
Turningradiuslines
Turning radius lines can only be superimposed
on the rearview camera image together with pathway lines.
Turning radius lines show the course of the
smallest possible turning radius on a level road.
Only one turning radius line is displayed after
the steering wheel is turned past a certain anj
gle.
Obstaclemarking
Obstacle markings can be faded into the image
of the rearview camera.
The colored thresholds of the obstacle markj
ings match the markings of the PDC.
Parkingusingpathwayandturning

1.Position the vehicle so that the turning raj dius lines lead to within the limits of the

Systemlimits
Detectionofobjects
Very low obstacles as well as high, protruding objects such as ledges may not be detected by
the system.
Assistance functions also take into account
data of the PDC.
Follow instructions in the PDC chapter.
The objects displayed on the Control Display may be closer than they appear. Do not estij
mate the distance from the objects on the disj
play.
SideView
Concept
Side View provides an early look at cross traffic at blind driveways and intersections. Road users concealed by obstacles to the left andright of the vehicle can only be detected relaj
tively late from the driver's seat. To improve visibility, two cameras in the front of the vehij
cle record the traffic situation on each side.
The images from both cameras are shown sij multaneously on the Control Display.

Cameras
Two cameras integrated in the bumpers capj
ture the image.
The two camera lenses are located on the
sides of the bumper.
The image quality may be impaired by dirt. If
required, clean the camera lenses.
Switchingon/off
Switchingon/offmanually Press button.

The system switches off when a certain driving
distance or speed is exceeded.
Switch the system back on, if needed.
Display
The traffic area to the left and right is displayed
on the Control Display.
Guidelines at the bottom of the image show
the position of the front of the vehicle.
Brightness With the Side View switched on:

Contrast
With the Side View switched on:

The cameras capture a maximum range of
330 ft/100 m.
TopView
Theconcept Top View provides assistance in parking and
maneuvering. The area around the doors and
the road area around the vehicle are shown on
the Control Display for this purpose.
Generalinformation
The image is captured by two cameras integrated in the exterior mirrors and by the
rearview camera.

The range is at least 7 ft/2 m to the side and
rear.

Display
Visualwarning
The approach of the vehicle to an object can be shown on the Control Display.
When the distance to an object is small, a red
bar is shown in front of the vehicle, as it is in
the PDC display.
The display appears as soon as Top View is
activated.
When the image of the rearview camera is disj played, it is possible to switch to top view:
"Rear view camera"

With Top View switched on:

'yThe static, red turning radius line shows the space needed to the side of the vehicle
when the steering wheel is turned all the
way.'yThe variable, green pathway line assists you in assessing the amount of space acjtually needed to the side of the vehicle.
The lane line depends on the engaged
gear and the current steering angle. The
track line is continuously adjusted for the
steering wheel movement.
"Parking aid lines"
Turning circle and pathway lines are displayed.
Systemlimits
Top View cannot be used in the following sitj uations:
'yWith a door open.'yWith the tailgate open.'yWith an exterior mirror folded in.'yIn poor light.
A Check Control message is displayed in some
of these situations.
Parkingassistant Concept
This system assists the driver in parking paraljlel to the road.
Generalinformation
Parking assistant handling is divided into three
steps:

System status and instructions on required acjtions are displayed on the Control Display.
Ultrasound sensors measure parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.
Manual transmission:
The parking assistant calculates the best posj
sible parking line and takes control of steering
during the parking procedure.
Steptronic transmission:
The parking assistant calculates the best posj
sible parking line and during the parking procej
dure takes control of steering, the acceleration
and braking, and if needed, changes the gears. Press and hold the park assistance button for
the duration of the parking procedure.
The parking assistant uses the sensors of PDC
Park Distance Control. Also observe the safety
information for PDC Park Distance Control.

Parkingusingtheparkingassistant
Parking1. Press park assistance button or shift
into reverse gear to switch the parking asj
sistant on, refer to page 168. Activate the
parking assistant, if needed.
Parking assistant is activated.
2.Pass the row of parked vehicles at a speed
of up to approx. 22 mph/35 km/h and at a
distance of maximum 5 ft/1.5 m.
The status of the parking space search and
possible parking spaces are displayed on the Control Display, refer to page 168.3.Follow the instructions on the Control Disj
play.
Manual transmission:
The best possible parking position will
come after gear change on the stationary vehicle - wait for the automatic steering
wheel move.
Steptronic transmission:
Press and hold the park assistance button
for the duration of the parking procedure.
At the end of the parking procedure, the P
selector lever position is set.
The end of the parking procedure is indij
cated on the Control Display.4.Adjust the parking position yourself, if
needed.
Interruptingmanually
The parking assistant can be interrupted at any time:
'yPress park assistance button.'y "Parking Assistant" Select the symbol
on the Control Display.
Interruptingautomatically
The system is interrupted automatically in thefollowing situations:
'yIf the driver grasps the steering wheel ortakes over steering.'yIf a gear is selected that does not match
the instruction on the Control Display.'yIf the vehicle speed exceeds approx.
6 mph/10 km/h.'yPossibly on snow-covered or slippery road surfaces.'yWhen there are obstacles that are hard toovercome, such as curbs.'yWhen there are obstacles that suddenly
appear.'yIf the Park Distance Control PDC displays
clearances that are too small.'yIf a maximum number of parking attempts
or the time taken for parking is exceeded.'yIf a turn signal has been actuated contrary to the desired side for parking.'yWhen switching to another function on the
Control Display.
Steptronic transmission:
'yWhen the park assistance button is rej
leased.'yIf the tailgate is open.'yIf doors are open.'yWhen setting the parking brake.'yDuring acceleration.'yWhen braking.'yWhen unfastening the driver's safety belt.
