the low tire pressure telltale illuminates, youshould stop and check your tires as soon aspossible, and inflate them to the proper presj
sure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to
tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efj ficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the
vehicle's handling and stopping ability. Please
note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver's
responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure, even if under-inflation has not reached the
level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low
tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also
been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indij
cator to indicate when the system is not operj
ating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicaj
tor is combined with the low tire pressure
telltale. When the system detects a malfuncj
tion, the telltale will flash for approximately one
minute and then remain continuously illumij
nated. This sequence will continue upon subj
sequent vehicle start-ups as long as the malj
function exists. When the malfunction indicator
is illuminated, the system may not be able to
detect or signal low tire pressure as intended.
TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of
reasons, including the installation of replacej
ment or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle
that prevent the TPMS from functioning propj
erly. Always check the TPMS malfunction tellj
tale after replacing one or more tires or wheels
on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement
or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS
to continue to function properly.
IntelligentSafety TheconceptIntelligent Safety enables central operation of
the driver assistance system.
Depending on how the vehicle is equipped, Inj telligent Safety consists of one or more sysj
tems that can help prevent a imminent collij
sion. These systems are active automaticallyevery time the engine is started using the
Start/Stop button:'yFront-end collision warning, refer to
page 123.'yPedestrian warning, refer to page 129.

WARNING
Indicators and warnings do not relieve
the driver from personal responsibility. Due to
system limits, warnings or reactions of the sysj
tem may not be output or they may be output
too late or incorrectly. There is a risk of an acj
cident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely and activelyintervene in the respective situations.'

Front-endcollisionwarning
Depending on the equipment, the collision
warning system consists of one of the two sysj
tems:

function
Concept
The system can help prevent accidents. If an
accident cannot be prevented, the system will help reduce the collision speed.
The system sounds a warning before an immij
nent collision and actuates brakes independj
ently, if needed.
The automatic braking intervention is done with limited force and duration.
A camera in the area of the rearview mirror
controls the system.
The approach control warning is available even if cruise control has been deactivated.
With the vehicle approaching another vehicle
intentionally, the approach control warning and braking are delayed in order to avoid false sysj
tem reactions.
Generalinformation The system warns at two levels of an imminentdanger of collision at speeds from approx.3 mph/5 km/h. Time of warnings may vary withthe current driving situation.
Appropriate braking kicks in at speeds of up to
35 mph/60 km/h.
Detectionrange
Objects are responded to if they are detected
by the system.

Prewarning
This warning is issued, e.g., when there is the impending danger of a collision or the distanceto the vehicle ahead is too small.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is a prewarning.
Acutewarningwithbrakingfunction
Acute warning is displayed in case of the immij nent danger of a collision when the vehicle apj
proaches another object at a high differential
speed.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is an acute warning. If necessary, the driver is
assisted by a minor automatic braking interj
vention in a possible risk of collision.
Acute warnings can also be triggered without
previous forewarning.
Brakingintervention
The warning prompts the driver himself/herself
to react. During a warning, the maximum brakj
ing force is used. Prerequisite for the brake
booster is sufficiently quick and hard stepping on the brake pedal. The system can assist with
some braking intervention if there is a risk of a collision. At low speeds vehicles may thus
come to a complete stop.
The braking intervention is executed only if vej
hicle stability has not been restricted, e.g., by
deactivating the DSC Dynamic Stability Conj
trol.
The braking intervention can be interrupted by
stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acj
tively moving the steering wheel.
Object detection can be restricted. Observe
the limitations of the detection range and funcj tional restrictions.
Systemlimits
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system can react incorrectly or not
at all due to the system limits. There is a risk of
accidents or risk of property damage. Observe the information regarding the system limits
and actively intervene, if needed.'

Pedestrianwarningwith
Approachcontrol
Concept
The system can help prevent accidents with
pedestrians.
When driving at city speeds, the system will isj sue a warning if there is imminent danger of a
collision with pedestrians and includes a brakj
ing function.
The camera in the area of the rearview mirror
controls the system.
Generalinformation
With sufficient brightness, the system warns
about possible collision danger with pedesj trians starting at approx. 6 mph/10 km/h to apj
prox. 35 mph/60 km/h and assists with braking before a collision.
Under those circumstances it reacts to peoplewho are within the detection range of the sysj
tem.
Detectionrange
The detection area in front of the vehicle is divjided into two areas:
'yCentral area, arrow 1, directly in front of thevehicle.'yExpanded area, arrow 2, to the right and
left.
A collision is imminent if pedestrians are loj
cated within the central area. A warning is isj
sued about pedestrians who are located within the extended area only if they are moving inthe direction of the central area.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Indicators and warnings do not relieve
the driver from personal responsibility. Due to
system limits, warnings or reactions of the sysj
tem may not be output or they may be output
too late or incorrectly. There is a risk of an acj
