3.As soon as the interior mirror LED startsflashing slowly, hold the hand-held transmitjter for the system to be controlled approx. 1
to 3 inches/2.5 to 8 cm away from the butj
tons of the interior mirror. The required disj
tance depends on the hand-held transmitter.4.Likewise, press and hold the button of the
desired function on the hand-held transmitj ter.5.Release both buttons as soon as the interior
mirror LED flashes more rapidly. The LED
flashing faster indicates that the button on the interior mirror has been programmed.
The system can then be controlled by the
button on the interior mirror.
If the LED does not flash faster after at most
60 seconds, change the distance and repeat
the programming starting with step 4. Several
more attempts at different distances may be necessary. Wait at least 15 seconds betweenattempts.
Canada: if programming with the hand-held
transmitter was interrupted, hold down the inj
terior mirror button and repeatedly press and
release the hand-held transmitter button for
2 seconds.
Operation
WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operating rej mote-controlled systems, such as the garagedoor, using the integrated Universal Remote
Control. There is a risk of injury or risk of damj
age to property. Make sure that the area of movement of the respective system is clear
during programming and operation. Also follow
the safety information of the hand-held transj
mitter.
The system, such as the garage door, can be opj
erated using the button on the interior mirror while the engine is running or when the ignition
is started. To do this, hold down the button
within receiving range of the system until the
function is activated. The interior mirror LED
stays lit while the wireless signal is being transj mitted.
Deletingstoredfunctions All stored functions will be deleted. The funcj
tions cannot be deleted individually. Press and hold the two outer buttons on the interior mirror
simultaneously for approximately 20 seconds unj
til the LED on the interior mirror flashes rapidly.
Sunvisor
Glareshield
Fold the sun visor down or up.
Vanitymirror
A vanity mirror is located in the sun visor behind
a cover. When the cover is opened, the mirror
lighting switches on.
Ashtray/cigarettelighter

CigarettelighterPush in the cigarette lighter.
The cigarette lighter can be rej
moved as soon as it pops back
out.
WARNING
Contact with the hot heating element or the hot
socket of the cigarette lighter can cause burns. Flammable materials can ignite if the cigarettelighter falls down or is held against the respecj
tive objects. There is a risk of fire and injuries.
Take hold of the cigarette lighter by its handle.
Make sure that children do not use the cigaj
rette lighter and burn themselves.
NOTE
If metal objects fall into the socket, they can
cause a short circuit. There is a risk of damage
to property. Replace the cigarette lighter or
socket cover again after using the socket.

Battery chargers for the vehicle battery can
work with high voltages and currents, which
means that the 12 volt on-board network can be overloaded or damaged. There is a risk ofdamage to property. Only connect battery
chargers for the vehicle battery to the starting
aid terminals in the engine compartment.

cause a short circuit. There is a risk of damage to property. Replace the cigarette lighter or
socket cover again after using the socket.
Sockets
Generalinformation The lighter socket can be used as a socket for
electrical equipment while the engine is running
or when the ignition is switched on.
The total load of all sockets must not exceed
140 watts at 12 volts.
Do not damage the socket by using non-comj
patible connectors.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
Devices and cables in the unfolding area of the
airbags, such as portable navigation devices, can hinder the unfolding of the airbag or be
thrown around in the car's interior during unj
folding. There is a risk of injury. Make sure that
devices and cables are not in the airbag's area
of unfolding.

can be connected using the AUX-IN port.

The snap-in adapter features a separate USB
port that is automatically connected when a
compatible mobile phone is inserted.'xAudio devices with USB port, for instance MP3 player.'xUSB storage devices.
Common file systems are supported. FAT32
and exFAT are the recommended formats.
Information about compatible USB media can be
found at www.bmwusa.com/bluetooth.

Overview
The USB interface and the AUX-IN port are lojcated in the center armrest.

'xDo not use force when plugging the connecj
tor into the USB interface.'xUse a flexible adapter cable.'xProtect the USB storage device against mej
chanical damage.'xDue to the large number of USB media availj
able on the market, it cannot be guaranteed that every device is operable on the vehicle.'xDo not expose USB media to extreme envij
ronmental conditions, such as very high temj peratures; refer to the owner's manual of the
device.'xDue to the many different compression techj niques, proper playback of the media storedon the USB storage device cannot be guarj
anteed in all cases.'xA connected USB storage device will be supj plied with charging current via the USB interj
face if the device supports this. At higher
temperatures, the USB storage device may
cause a reduction in the charging current.'xTo ensure proper transmission of the stored data, do not charge a USB storage device viathe onboard socket, when it is connected to
the USB interface.'xDepending on how the USB storage device is
being used, settings may be required on the
USB storage device, refer to the owner's
manual of the device.

The ski bag makes it possible to transport two
pairs of skis up to a length of 6 ft/2.10 m.

and remove the insert from the front. If necj
essary, when pulling the release, press

3.Press button in the cargo area, open tailboardand attach to the rear wall via magnetic
holder.4.Load the ski bag. If necessary, wrap the sharp edges of the skis.5.Tighten the retaining strap.

vehicle occupants if it is not secured correctly, for instance in case of an accident, braking or
evasive maneuvers. There is a risk of injuries or
danger to life. Secure ski bag with the retaining strap.
Stowingtheskibag
Proceed in the reverse order of loading. When replacing the insert, place both pins intothe rail at the bottom and press the insert back inplace until a 'click' is heard. Ensure that the rear
seat backrest upholstery is not damaged.

The storage compartment in the armrest can be
locked with an integrated key to separately sej cure the tailgate, for instance.
After the storage compartment is locked, the rej mote control can be handed out without theintegrated key, refer to page 60, for instance at a
hotel.
This prevents access to the storage compartj ment and to the cargo area.

An external audio device, for inj
stance an MP3 player, can be connected via the AUX-IN port or
the USB audio interface in the
center armrest.
Clotheshooks
Safetyinformation
WARNING
Clothing articles on the clothes hooks can obj struct the view while driving. There is a risk of
an accident. When suspending clothing articles from the clothes hooks, ensure that they will
not obstruct the driver's view.

Improper use of the clothes hooks can lead to a
risk of objects flying about during braking and
evasive maneuvers. There is a risk of injury and
risk of damage to property. Only hang lightj
weight objects, for instance clothing articles,
from the clothes hooks.
