This chapter describes all standard, country-spejcific and optional features offered with the series. It also describes features that are not necessarilyavailable in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selectedoptions or country versions. This also applies to

Anti-lock
Braking
System ABS
ABS prevents locking of the wheels during brakjing.
The vehicle maintains its steering power even during full brake applications, thus increasing acjtive safety.
ABS is operational every time you start the enj gine.
Brake
assistant
When you apply the brakes rapidly, this system
automatically boosts the vehicle braking capabilj
ity to the furthest possible extent. It reduces the
braking distance to a minimum during emerj gency stop. This system utilizes all of the capajbilities provided by the Antilock Brake SystemABS.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
for the duration of the emergency stop.
Automatic
Differential
Brake
The system controls the driving force by autoj
matic braking intervention on individual wheels. The function corresponds to a differential lock:
the system detects if a wheel begins to spin, bej
cause of loose road surface, for instance and auj
tomatically brakes it.
The driving force is diverted to the wheel with
better traction.
As a result, the engine force is transferred more efficiently to the wheels during accelerations.
DSC
Dynamic
StabilityControl
Concept
Within the physical limits, the system helps to
keep the vehicle on a steady course by reducing
engine speed and by applying brakes to the indij vidual wheels.
General
information DSC detects the following unstable driving conj
ditions, for instance:
'xFishtailing, which can lead to oversteering.'xLoss of traction of the front wheels, which can lead to understeering.
Dynamic Traction Control DTC, refer topage 173, is a version of the DSC where forward
momentum is optimized.

WARNING
The system cannot serve as a substitute for the
driverss personal judgment in assessing the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysj tem, it cannot independently react to all trafficsituations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
driving style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic
closely and actively intervene where approprij
ate.
WARNING
When driving with a roof load, for instance with
roof-mounted luggage rack, the vehicle's cenj
ter of gravity is higher, which increases the risk of the vehicle tipping in critical driving situaj
tions. There is a risk of accidents or risk of
damage to property. Do not deactivate DSC
Dynamic Stability Control when driving with
roof load.

Indicator/warning
lights The indicator light flashes: DSC controls
the drive and braking forces.
The indicator light lights up: DSC has malfuncj
tioned.
Deactivating
DSC:

information
When DSC is deactivated, driving stability is rej
duced during acceleration and when driving in
curves.
To increase vehicle stability, activate DSC again as soon as possible.
Deactivating
DSC Press and hold this button but not lonj
ger than approx. 10 seconds, until the
indicator light for DSC OFF lights up in the inj
strument cluster and displays DSC OFF.
DSC is switched off.
Activating
DSC Press button.
DSC OFF and the DSC OFF indicator
light go out.
Indicator/warning
lights When DSC is deactivated, DSC OFF is displayed
in the instrument cluster.
The indicator light lights up: DSC is dej
activated.
Automatic
activation
When DSC is deactivated, automatic activation

DTC
Dynamic
TractionControl
Concept
DTC is a version of the DSC Dynamic Stability
Control where forward momentum is optimized.
The system ensures maximum headway on spejcial road conditions or loose road surfaces, for inj
stance unplowed snowy roads, but with somej what limited driving stability.
When DTC is activated, the vehicle has maxij mum traction. Driving stability is limited during
acceleration and when driving in curves.
Drive carefully.
You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC unj der the following special circumstances:
'xWhen driving in slush or on uncleared, snow- covered roads.'xWhen driving off from deep snow or looseground.'xWhen driving with snow chains.

Activating
DTC Press button.
TRACTION is displayed in the instruj
ment cluster and the indicator light for DSC OFF lights up.
Deactivating
DTC Press button again.
TRACTION and the DSC OFF indicator
light go out.
Performance
Control
Performance Control enhances the agility of the
vehicle.
To increase maneuverability, wheels are braked individually when a sporty driving style is used.
xDrive
xDrive is the all-wheel-drive system of your vehij cle. Concerted action by the xDrive and DSC Dyjnamic Stability Control further optimizes tractionand driving dynamics. The xDrive all-wheel-drive
system variably distributes the drive forces to the
front and rear axles as demanded by the driving
situation and road surface.
HDC
Hill
Descent
Control
Concept
Hill Descent Control, HDC, is a downhill control
feature that controls the vehicle speed on steep downhill grades, for instance when driving on unjpaved roads.
When the system is active, the vehicle moves at
the speed set by the driver, without the driver having to depress the brake pedal.
While HTC is controlling the speed, the system
automatically distributes the braking force to the
individual wheels. This improves vehicle drivabilj ity and stability. If necessary, the Antilock BrakeSystem prevents the wheels from locking.
General
informationHill Descent Control can be activated at speedsbelow approx. 25 mph/40 km/h.
Speeds can be set between approx. 2 mph/3 km/h and approx. 20 mph/30 km/h.
When the vehicle is moving downhill, the system
reduces the speed to the set value, within the
physical limits.

Using
the
cruise
control
rocker
switch
The desired speed can be changed using the cruise control rocker switch on the steering
wheel.'xPress the rocker switch up: the speed inj
creases gradually.'xPress the rocker switch up and hold: the speed increases while the rocker switch ispressed.'xPress the rocker switch down: the speed rej
duces gradually.'xPress the rocker switch down and hold: the speed reduces while the rocker switch is
pressed.
Using
the
brake
pedal
While HDC is controlling the speed, the set dej
sired speed can be reduced by depressing the brake pedal.
Deactivating
HDC Press button again. The LED goes out.HDC is automatically deactivated above
approx. 25 mph/40 km/h.
Malfunction If a malfunction occurs, a message is displayed in
the instrument cluster.

Servotronic
Concept
Servotronic is a speed-dependent power steerj
ing function.
The system provides the steering force with more support at low speeds than at higher ones.
This makes it easier to park, for instance, and
makes steering more direct when driving at faster speeds.
Furthermore, the steering force adapts according
to the driving program, so that a direct, sporty feel or a comfortable steering response is conj
veyed.
M
sports
steering
M sports steering with Servotronic creates a dij
rect driving style by using smaller steering anj
gles. M sports steering features variable steering
force support that takes the speed and transj verse acceleration into account. This enhances
agility and improves handling while maintaining a
sporty driving style; for example, in tight corners
or during evasive maneuvers. At the same time, it
ensures improved comfort during parking, turnj ing, and maneuvering.

Control
Concept
The Driving Dynamics Control helps to fine-tune
the vehicle's settings and features. Various proj
grams can be selected for this purpose.

Drive-off
assistant
Concept
This system supports driving off on uphill grades.
The parking brake is not required.
Driving
off
with
the
drive-off
assistant
1.Hold the vehicle in place with the foot brake.2.Release the foot brake and drive off without delay.
After the foot brake is released, the vehicle is
held in place for approx. 2 seconds.
Depending on the vehicle load or when a trailer is
used, the vehicle may roll back slightly.

Camera-based
cruise control
with
Stop&Go function,
ACC
Concept
Using this system, a desired speed and a disj
tance to a vehicle ahead can be adjusted using
the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed on
clear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle accelerj
ates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle so that the set
distance to the vehicle ahead is maintained. The speed is adjusted as far as the given situation alj
lows.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respective
speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and then proceeds to drive again within a brief period,
the system is able to detect this within the given
system limits.
General
information
A camera on the interior mirror is used to detect
vehicles driving ahead.
Depending on the driving settings, the features
of the cruise control can change in certain areas.

necessary.

off
To switch off the system while standing, step on
brake pedal at the same time.
Press button on the steering wheel.
The displays go out. The stored desired speed is deleted.
Interrupting
manually Press button on the steering wheel.
If interrupting the system while stationary, press on the brake pedal at the same time.
Interrupting
automatically The system is automatically interrupted in the
following situations:'xWhen the driver applies the brakes.'xWhen selector lever position D is disengaged.'xWhen Dynamic Traction Control DTC is actij vated.'xIf DSC Dynamic Stability Control intervenes.'xIf the safety belt is unbuckled and the driver's
door is opened while the vehicle is standing

Maintaining/storing

speed
Press the rocker switch up or down once whilethe system is interrupted.
When the system is switched on, the current
speed is maintained and stored as the desired
speed.
The stored speed is displayed in the speedomej ter and briefly in the instrument cluster, refer to
page 182.
DSC Dynamic Stability Control is switched on, if necessary.
The speed can also be stored by pressjing a button.

Changing
the
speed
Press the rocker switch up or down repeatedly until the desired speed is set.
If active, the displayed speed is stored and the
vehicle reaches the stored speed when the road is clear.
