Removingtheexteriortaillight1.Open the tailgate.2.Use the screwdriver from the onboard vejhicle tool kit to loosen the clip, arrow 1, andremove the cover, arrow 2.3.Release both nuts.4.Open the cover on the side trim in thecargo area, arrow, and remove the warning
triangle, refer to page 315.5.Loosen the screw and remove the holder.6.Remove the connector, arrow 1, and
loosen the screw, arrow 2.7.Detach the tail light from the body.
Replacingthebulbs
1.Loosen the four fasteners on the bulb
holder, arrow 1, and detach the bulb holder
from the tail light, arrow 2.2.Press the bulb gently into the bulb holder,
turn counterclockwise and remove it.3.Proceed in the reverse order to insert the new bulb and attach the bulb holder. Make

The battery is maintenance-free.
The added amount of acid is sufficient for the
service life of the battery.
More information about the battery can be rej
quested from a dealerss service center or anj other qualified service center or repair shop.
The manufacturer of your vehicle recommendsthat you have a dealerss service center or anjother qualified service center or repair shopregister the vehicle battery to the vehicle after
the battery has been replaced. Once the batj tery has been registered again, all comfort feaj
tures will be available without restriction and any Check Control messages displayed which
relate to comfort features will disappear.

Vehicle batteries that are not compatible
can damage vehicle systems and impair vehij cle functions. There is a risk of personal and
property damage. Only vehicle batteries that are compatible with your vehicle type should

BMW Group Accident Assistance can be conj tacted if assistance is needed in the event of an accident.
Generalinformation If the vehicle sensors detect a minor to moderjately severe accident, which did not trigger anyairbags, a Check Control message appears on
the instrument cluster. In addition, a text mesj sage appears on the Control Display.
When BMW Accident Assistance is activated, data on the vehicle's condition is sent to BMW.

dent of corresponding severity. Automatic
Collision Notification is not affected by pressj
ing the SOS button.

manually1.Touch the cover.2.Press the SOS button and hold until the
LED on the microphone lights up green.'yThe LED is illuminated green when an
Emergency Request has been initiated.
If a cancel prompt appears on the Control
Display, the Emergency Request can be
aborted.
If the situation allows, wait in your vehicle
until the voice connection has been estabj
lished.'yThe LED flashes green when a connection to the BMW Response Center has been
established.
The BMW Response Center then makes contact with you and takes further steps to
help you.
Even if you are unable to respond, the
BMW Response Center can take further
steps to help you under certain circumj
stances.
For this, data is transmitted to the BMW
Response Center which serves to deterj
mine the necessary rescue measures. E.g., the current position of the vehicle, if it canbe established.
Even if you can no longer hear the BMW Response Center through the loudspeakj
ers, the BMW Response Center may still
be able to hear you.
The BMW Response Center ends the Emerj
gency Request.
Jump-starting
Generalinformation If the battery is discharged, the engine can be
started using the battery of another vehicle and two jumper cables. Only use jumper caj
bles with fully insulated clamp handles.

an electric shock. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Do not touch any componentsthat are under voltage.'

Startingaidterminals
The starting aid terminal in the engine comj
partment acts as the battery's positive termij
nal.
Open the cover of the starting aid terminal.
A special connection on the body acts as the battery negative terminal.
Connectingthecables Before you begin, switch off all unnecessaryelectronic systems/power consumers, such asthe radio, on the assisting and receiving vehijcle.
1.Open the cover of the starting aid terminal.2.Attach one terminal clamp of the positive
jumper cable to the positive terminal of the battery, or to the corresponding starting
aid terminal of the vehicle providing assisj
tance.3.Attach the terminal clamp on the other end of the cable to the positive terminal of the
battery, or to the corresponding starting
aid terminal of the vehicle to be started.4.Attach one terminal clamp of the negative jumper cable to the negative terminal ofthe battery, or to the corresponding engine
or body ground of assisting vehicle.5.Attach the second terminal clamp to the
negative terminal of the battery, or to the corresponding engine or body ground of
the vehicle to be started.
Startingtheengine
Never use spray fluids to start the engine.
1.Start the engine of the assisting vehicle
and let it run for several minutes at an inj creased idle speed.
If the vehicle to be started has a diesel enj gine: let the engine of the assisting vehiclerun for approx. 10 minutes.2.Start the engine of the vehicle that is to bestarted in the usual way.
If the first starting attempt is not successj
ful, wait a few minutes before making anj
other attempt in order to allow the disj
charged battery to recharge.3.Let both engines run for several minutes.4.Disconnect the jumper cables in the rej verse order.
Check the battery and recharge, if needed.
Tow-startingandtowing Safetyinformation WARNING
Due to system limits, individual functions
can malfunction during tow-starting/towing with the Intelligent Safety systems activated.
There is a risk of an accident. Switch all Intellij gent Safety systems off prior to tow-starting/
towing.'
