Depending on the situation, the drive torque is
shifted from the wheel on the inside of the
curve to the wheel on the outside of the curve
or vice-versa.
To increase the maneuverability, the rear wheel on the outside of the curve is acceler#j
ated when the driving style is correspondingly
sporty.
The steering responds directly; simultane#j
ously, the understeering tendency of the four-
wheel drive is reduced.
With the oversteering tendency, the system exerts a stabilizing effect by accelerating the
rear wheel on the inside of the curve.
The system noticeably improves the traction
and simultaneously increases the driving
safety, especially on road surfaces having fluc#j
tuating coefficients of friction.
DSCDynamicStability
Control
Concept
Within the physical limits, the system helps to
keep the vehicle on a steady course by reduc#j
ing engine speed and by applying brakes to
the individual wheels.
Generalinformation Dynamic Stability Control detects, e.g., the fol#jlowing unstable driving conditions:'yFishtailing, which can lead to oversteering.'yLoss of traction of the front wheels, which
can lead to understeering.
Dynamic Traction Control DTC, refer to
page 142, is a version of the DSC where for#j
ward momentum is optimized.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sys#j tem, it cannot independently react to all trafficsituations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch
traffic closely and actively intervene in the re#j
spective situations.'

DeactivatingDSC:DSCOFF
When DSC is deactivated, driving stability is
reduced during acceleration and when driving in curves.
To increase vehicle stability, activate DSC again as soon as possible.
DeactivatingDSC Press and hold this button but not lon#jger than approx. 10 seconds, until the
indicator lamp for DSC OFF lights up in the in#j strument cluster and displays DSC OFF.
DSC is switched off.
The steering and, depending on the equip#j ment, suspension are tuned for sporty driving.
ActivatingDSC Press button.
DSC OFF and the DSC OFF indicator
lamp go out.
Indicator/warninglights
When DSC is deactivated, DSC OFF is dis#j played in the instrument cluster.
The indicator lamp lights up: DSC is
deactivated.
DTCDynamicTraction
Control
Concept
DTC is a version of the DSC where forward
momentum is optimized.
The system ensures maximum headway on special road conditions or loose road surfaces,e.g., unplowed snowy roads, but with some#jwhat limited driving stability.
When DTC is activated, the vehicle has maxi#j
mum traction. Driving stability is limited during acceleration and when driving in curves. Therefore, drive with appropriate caution.
You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC under the following special circumstances:'yWhen driving in slush or on uncleared,
snow-covered roads.'yWhen freeing vehicle from deep snow or driving off from loose ground.'yWhen driving with snow chains.

axles as demanded by the driving situation and
road surface.

HDCHillDescentControl
Concept
HDC is a downhill driving assistant that auto#j matically controls vehicle speed on steep downhill gradients. Without applying the
brakes, the vehicle moves at slightly more than walking speed. It the brakes are actively ap#j
plied, the system distributes force according to
the traction.
Vehicle stability and maneuverability are im#j proved on downhill gradients.
Hill Descent Control can be activated at speeds below approx. 22 mph/35 km/h. When
driving downhill, the vehicle reduces its speed
and then keeps its speed constant.
Only use HDC in low gears or in selector lever
position D or R.
Increasingordecreasingvehicle
speed
Specify desired speed in the range from ap#j prox. 4 mph/6 km/h to approx. 15 mph/25 km/h using the rocker switch of the cruise control on
the steering wheel. Vehicle speed can be changed by lightly accelerating.'yPress the rocker switch up to the point of
resistance: the speed increases gradually.'yPress up the rocker switch past the point
of resistance: the speed increases while
the rocker switch is pressed.'yPress the rocker switch down to the point
of resistance: the speed decreases gradu#j ally.'yPress the rocker switch down past thepoint of resistance: when driving forward, the speed decreases to approx.
6 mph/10 km/h; when reversing, the speed
decreases to approx. 4 mph/6 km/h.

approx. 37 mph/60 km/h.

Malfunction
A message is displayed in the instrument clus#j
ter. HDC is not available, e.g., due to elevated brake temperatures.
ActiveSteering
Active Steering varies the steering angle of the
wheels in relation to the steering wheel move#j ment as a function of the speed.
At lower speeds, for example during turning or
maneuvering, the steering angle is increased, that is to say the steering becomes more di#j
rect.
At higher speeds, the steering angle is increas#j ingly reduced.
This enables even more precise handling at high speeds and more responsive steering
with reduced steering angle at low speeds.
Activerollstabilization Theconcept
The system reduces the lateral inclination of the vehicle that occurs during rapid driving in
curves or during quick evasive maneuvers.
Driving stability and driving comfort are in#j
creased under all driving conditions. The sys#j
tem utilizes active stabilizer bars on the front and rear axles that react immediately to all driv#jing situations.
Programs The system offers two different programs.
Select the programs via the Driving Dynamics
Control.
SPORT Sporty tuning for greater driving agility.
COMFORT
Comfort-oriented tuning for optimal comfort.
VerticalDynamicControl Concept
This system reduces undesirable vehicle mo#j tion when using a dynamic driving style or trav#j
eling on uneven road surfaces.
This enhances the driving dynamics and driv#j
ing comfort depending on the road surface
condition and driving style.
ProgramsThe system offers several different programs.
Select the programs via the Driving DynamicsControl.

Self-levelingsuspensionTheconcept The self-leveling suspension keeps the vehicleheight and ground clearance constant. Theheight of the vehicle at the rear axle is main#jtained at a predefined level under all load con#j
ditions.
The system ensures consistent comfort by keeping spring travel constant in all driving sit#j
uations.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed. The
system is disrupted. Vehicle handling may be altered and driving comfort may be noticeablyreduced. Visit the nearest dealer#ss service cen#jter or another qualified service center or repair

DrivingDynamicsControl TheconceptThe Driving Dynamics Control can be used to
adjust the driving dynamics of the vehicle. For
this purpose various programs are available for selection that are activated via the two buttons

DrivingcomfortVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.

Concept
Using this system, a desired speed and a dis#j
tance to a vehicle ahead can be adjusted using the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed on clear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle ac#j
celerates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle within the
given system limits so that the set distance to
the vehicle ahead is maintained.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respec#j tive speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and
then proceeds to drive again within a brief pe#j
riod, the system is able to detect this within the given system limits.
Generalinformation
Depending on the driving settings, the features of the cruise control can change in certain
areas.Safetyinformation
