Check Gas Cap Message
If your vehicle has this
message, it will come
on when the ignition
is turned to ON or
START and the gas cap
is open.
PASS-Key®III Security Message
If you are ever driving and this message comes
on and stays on, you will be able to restart
your engine if you turn it off.Your PASS-Key
®III system, however, is not
working properly and must be serviced by your
dealer. Your vehicle is not protected by the
PASS-Key
®III system at this time. See
PASS-Key®III on page 124for more information.
Low Washer Fluid Warning
Message
Your vehicle may have a low washer uid warning
message. If your washer uid is low, this warning
message will come on and stay on until you
add washer uid. SeeWindshield Washer Fluid on
page 388for adding washer uid instructions.
If the warning message is still on after adding uid,
you need to reset the warning message. To
reset the warning message, turn the ignition off
and then back on. If the message stays on,
see your dealer.

XM Locked Theft lock active The XM™ receiver in your vehicle may have previously
been in another vehicle. For security purposes, XM™
receivers cannot be swapped between vehicles. If this
message is received after having your vehicle serviced,
check with the servicing facility.
Radio ID Radio ID label (channel 0) If tuned to channel 0, this message alternates with the
XM™ Radio 8 digit radio ID label. This label is needed to
activate the service.
Unknown Radio ID not known
(should only be if
hardware failure)If this message is received when tuned to channel 0, there
could be a receiver fault. Consult with your dealer.
Chk XMRcvr Hardware failure If this message does not clear within a short period of time,
the receiver could have a fault. Consult with your dealer.
Navigation/Radio System
Your vehicle may have a navigation radio system.
The navigation system has built-in features
intended to minimize driver distraction. Technology
alone, no matter how advanced, can never
replace your own judgment. See the Navigation
System manual for some tips to help you
reduce distractions while driving.
Rear Seat Entertainment System
Your vehicle may have a DVD Rear Seat
Entertainment (RSE) system. The RSE system
includes a DVD player, a video display screen,
two sets of wireless headphones, and a remote
control.

Winter Driving
Here are some tips for winter driving:
Have your vehicle in good shape for winter.
You may want to put winter emergency
supplies in your vehicle.
Also seeTires on page 406.Include an ice scraper, a small brush or broom, a
supply of windshield washer uid, a rag, some
winter outer clothing, a small shovel, a ashlight, a
red cloth, and a couple of reective warning
triangles. And, if you will be driving under severe
conditions, include a small bag of sand, a
piece of old carpet, or a couple of burlap bags to
help provide traction. Be sure you properly
secure these items in your vehicle.

If you put things inside your vehicle — like
suitcases, tools, packages, or anything else, they
will go as fast as the vehicle goes. If you have
to stop or turn quickly, or if there is a crash, they
will keep going.
{CAUTION:
Things you put inside your vehicle can
strike and injure people in a sudden stop
or turn, or in a crash.
Put things in the cargo area of your
vehicle. Try to spread the weight
evenly.
Never stack heavier things, like
suitcases, inside the vehicle so that
some of them are above the tops of
the seats.
Do not leave an unsecured child
restraint in your vehicle.
When you carry something inside the
vehicle, secure it whenever you can.
Do not leave a seat folded down
unless you need to.
Towing
Towing Your Vehicle
Consult your dealer or a professional towing
service if you need to have your disabled vehicle
towed. SeeRoadside Assistance Program on
page 498.
If you want to tow your vehicle behind another
vehicle for recreational purposes (such as behind
a motorhome), see “Recreational Vehicle
Towing” following.

If exhaust does come into your vehicle
through a window in the rear or
another opening, drive with your front,
main heating or cooling system on
and with the fan on any speed. This
will bring fresh, outside air into your
vehicle. Do not use the climate control
setting for maximum air because it
only recirculates the air inside your
vehicle. SeeClimate Control System
on page 200.
Towing a trailer requires a certain amount of
experience. Before setting out for the open road,
you will want to get to know your rig. Acquaint
yourself with the feel of handling and braking with
the added weight of the trailer. And always
keep in mind that the vehicle you are driving is
now a good deal longer and not nearly as
responsive as your vehicle is by itself.Before you start, check all trailer hitch parts and
attachments, safety chains, electrical connector,
lamps, tires and mirror adjustment. If the trailer has
electric brakes, start your vehicle and trailer
moving and then apply the trailer brake controller
by hand to be sure the brakes are working.
This lets you check your electrical connection at
the same time.
During your trip, check occasionally to be sure
that the load is secure, and that the lamps and any
trailer brakes are still working.
Following Distance
Stay at least twice as far behind the vehicle ahead
as you would when driving your vehicle without
a trailer. This can help you avoid situations
that require heavy braking and sudden turns.
Passing
You will need more passing distance up ahead
when you are towing a trailer. And, because
you are a good deal longer, you will need to go
much farther beyond the passed vehicle
before you can return to your lane.

To inspect or replace the air cleaner/lter, do the
following:
1. Remove the two clamps on the duct.
2. Remove the duct.
3. Unlatch the two hooks on top of the engine air
cleaner/lter housing.
4. Inspect or replace the engine air cleaner/lter.
5. Align the tabs located on the bottom of the
panel with the slots at the bottom of the
housing.
6. Latch the hooks to secure the panel in place.
If the panel moves easily, check that the tabs
are seated correctly in the slots.
7. Put the duct back on and reinstall the clamps.
{CAUTION:
Operating the engine with the air cleaner/
lter off can cause you or others to be
burned. The air cleaner not only cleans the
air; it helps to stop ames if the engine
backres. If it is not there and the engine
backres, you could be burned. Do not
drive with it off, and be careful working on
the engine with the air cleaner/lter off.
Notice:If the air cleaner/lter is off, a backre
can cause a damaging engine re. And, dirt
can easily get into your engine, which will
damage it. Always have the air cleaner/lter
in place when you are driving.

To replace the windshield wiper blade assembly
do the following:
1. Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.2. Push the release lever (B) to disengage the
hook and push the wiper arm (A) out of the
blade (C).
3. Push the new wiper blade securely on the
wiper arm until you hear the release lever
click into place.
To replace the rear wiper blade, follow the steps
listed above.

To reset the system, do the following:
1. With the engine off, turn the ignition to ON.
2. Press the MODE button until the DIC reads
LOW TIRE PRESSURE HOLD SET TO
RESET.
3. Press and hold the SET button until you hear
a chime, and TIRE PRESSURE RESET is
displayed.
You will hear three chimes, then the LOW TIRE
PRESSURE message will go off and the DIC
will return to TIRE PRESSURE NORMAL. If the
LOW TIRE PRESSURE message comes back on,
the check tire pressure system has not reset.
Repeat the procedure.
The system completes the calibration process
during driving. The system learns the pressure at
each tire throughout the operating speed range
of your vehicle. The system normally takes
between 30 and 60 minutes of driving to learn
the tire pressures. The system normally takes
10 to 20 minutes of driving in each speed range
to learn tire pressures. The speed ranges are
20 to 40 mph (32 to 64 km/h), 40 to 60 mph
(64 to 96 km/h), and above 60 mph (96 km/h).
This time may be longer depending on yourindividual driving habits. The learning process
does not need to be completed during a single trip.
Once learned, the system will remember the tire
pressure until the system is reset.
Tire Inspection and Rotation
Tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles
(8 000 to 13 000 km).
Any time you notice unusual wear, rotate your tires
as soon as possible and check wheel alignment.
Also check for damaged tires or wheels. SeeWhen

Make sure the spare tire is stored securely. Push,
pull, and then try to rotate or turn the tire, If it
moves, use the folding wrench to tighten the cable.

The purpose of regular rotation is to achieve
more uniform wear for all tires on the vehicle. The
rst rotation is the most important. SeeScheduled
Maintenance on page 475.

4. Remove the protective cap covering the outlet.
5. Attach the other end of the hose to the
outlet.
6. Press the accessory inator switch. The light
in the switch will come on to show the system
is working.
If the accessory inator system does not turn on or
the light does not come on, the fuse may be blown
or installed incorrectly. SeeFuses and Circuit
Breakers on page 463or see your dealer for
service.
Your accessory inator will automatically shut off
after about 10 minutes. The light in the switch will
blink. After about one minute you can use the
system again. Press the inator switch and the
indicator light will come on.
Notice:If you run the accessory inator
longer than 30 minutes at a time, you could
damage the inator. The repairs would not be
covered by your warranty. Run the inator
for short periods of time only.After running the accessory inator for 30 minutes,
wait at least 10 minutes before restarting the
accessory inator.
To turn off the inator, do the following:
1. Press the switch and detach the hose, rst
from the inated object, then from the outlet.
2. Put the protective cap back on.
3. Place the inator kit tools in the pouch, and
store in the glove box.
To put the cover back on, line up the tabs at the
back of the cover and put it in place. Push down the
tab to secure the cover.

9. Tighten the wheel
nuts rmly in a
crisscross sequence,
as shown.
Notice:Wheel covers will not t on your
compact spare. If you try to put a wheel cover
on the compact spare, you could damage
the cover or the spare.
10. Do not try to put a wheel cover on the
compact spare tire. It will not t. Store
the wheel cover securely in the rear of the
vehicle until you have the at tire repaired or
replaced.Secondary Latch System
Your vehicle has an underbody mounted tire hoist
assembly equipped with a secondary latch system.
It is designed to stop the compact spare tire from
suddenly falling off your vehicle if the cable holding
the spare tire is damaged. For the secondary latch
to work, the tire must be stowed with the valve stem
pointing down. SeeStoring a Flat or Spare Tire and
Tools on page 444for instructions on storing the
spare tire correctly.
{CAUTION:
Before beginning this procedure read all
the instructions. Failure to read and follow
the instructions could damage the hoist
assembly and you and others could get
hurt. Read and follow the instructions
listed next.
