1. Don’t push the accelerator pedal before starting your engine. In some
other vehicles you might need to do this, but because
of your vehicle’s
computer systems, you don’t.

2. Turn your ignition key to “Start.” When the engine starts, let go of the
key. The idle speed
will go down as your engine gets warm.
3. If it doesn’t start right away, hold your key in “Start” for about three
seconds at a time until your engine starts. Wait about

4. If your engine still won’t start (or starts but then stops), it could be
flooded with too much gasoline. Try pushing your accelerator pedal all
the way to the floor and holding it there
as you hold the key in “Start’’
for about three seconds.
If the vehicle starts briefly but then stops
again, do
the same thing.

vehicle can roll.

Don’t leave your vehicle when the engine is running unless y
have to. If you have left the engine running, the vehicle can
move suddenly.
You or others could be injured. To be sure yo
vehicle won’t move, when you’re
on fairly level ground, always
set your parking brake and move the shift lever to
“P” (Park).
See “Shifting Into “P” (Park)” in the Index. If you are parking
on
a hill, or, if you’re pulling a trailer, also see, “Parking on
Hills” or “Towing

Ensure the shift lever is fully in
“P” (Park) range before starting the
engine. Your Cadillac has a brake-transaxle shift interlock.
You have to

the ignition key is in the “Run” position.

running. Your vehicle could move suddenly if the shift lever is
not fully in
“P” (Park) with the parking brake firmly set. And, if
you leave the vehicle with the engine running,
it could overheat
and even catch fire.
You or others could be injured. Don’t leave
your vehicle with the engine running unless you have to.
If you have to leave your vehicle with the engine running, be sure your
vehicle is
in “P” (Park) and your parking brake is firmly set before you
leave it. After you’ve moved the shift
lever into the “P” (Park) position,
hold the regular brake pedal down. Then, see if you can move the shift
lever away from “P” (Park) without first pulling it toward you.
If you can,
it means that the shift lever wasn’t fully locked into “P” (Park).
SHIFTING OUT OF “P” (PARK)
Your Cadillac has a brake-transaxle shift interlock. You have to fully
apply your regular brake before you can shift from “P” (Park) when the
ignition
is in the “Run” position. See “Automatic Transaxle” in the Index.
If you cannot shift out of “P” (Park), ease pressure on the shift lever --

If you ever
hold the brake pedal down but still can’t shift out of “P” (Park), try this:

Express Down Window (Driver's Side)
Just press the switch once -- for half a second or more -- and then let go.
The window will
go all the way down. If you want to stop the window as it
is going down, press the switch again.
Your vehicle has Retained Accessory Power (RAP). When you stop your
vehicle and turn the ignition key to
"OFF", you can still use your power
windows. The electrical power to the power windows will not shut
off
until you open a door or 10 minutes has passed. If you want this power
for another
10 minutes, just turn the key to "RUN" and then back to
"OFF".

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Odometer
Your Cadillac has a “tamper-resistant odometer.” On the analog
odometer, if
you see silver lines between the numbers, probably someone
has tried to turn it back.
The numbers may not be true. If you have the
optional digital odometer, it will say
ERROR if someone has tampered
with it.
You may wonder what happens
if a car has to have a new odometer
installed. If possible, the new one
has to be set to the same reading the
old one had.
If it can’t be, then it’s set at zero, but a label on the driver’s
door must show the old reading and when the new one was installed.
WMING LIGHTS
This section describes the warning lights that are on your vehicle. The
pictures will help you locate them.
Warning lights can signal that something is wrong before it becomes
serious enough to cause an expensive repair or replacement. Paying
attention to your warning lights could also save you or others from injury.
Warning lights go on when there may be or is a problem with one
of your
vehicle’s functions.
As you will see in the details on the next few pages,
some warning lights come
on briefly when you turn the ignition key just to
let you know they’re working.
If you are familiar with this section, you
should not be alarmed when this happens.

I
Your brake system may not be working properly if the brake
warning light is on. Driving with the brake warning light
on can I
lead to an accident. If the light is still on after you’ve pulled off
the road and stopped carefully, have the vehicle towed for
service. 1’
Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light
With anti-lock, this light will go on when you start your engine and may
stay on for several seconds or
so. That’s normal. If the light doesn’t come
on, have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if there is a problem.
If the light stays on or comes on when you’re driving, stop as soon
as
possible and turn the key off. Then start the engine to reset the system. If
the light still stays on, or comes on again while you’re driving, your
Cadillac needs service. Unless the regular brake system warning light is
also
on, you will still have brakes, but not anti-lock brakes. If the regular
brake system warning light is also on, see “Brake System Warning Light”
earlier in this part.
The anti-lock brake system warning light may also come on when you are
driving with a compact spare tire. If this happens, the light means you
won’t have anti-lock until you replace the compact spare with
a full-size

When you turn the key

If a light stays on, you need service, and you should take your Cadillac to
the dealer at once.
To save your battery until you get there, turn off all
accessories, and set your Electronic Climate Control system to “OFF.”

When this light comes on and stavs on, it means
oil isn’t going through
your engine properly. You could be
low on oil, or you might have some
other oil problem.
