Valet Lockout Switch
The valet lockout switch
is located inside the
glove box.
Press the switch to ON to disable the use of the trunk,
fuel door, garage door opener and optional cellular
telephone. The remote keyless entry transmitter cannot
open the trunk if the valet lockout switch is in ON.
Press this switch to OFF to enable the use of the trunk,
fuel door, garage door opener and optional cellular
telephone.
Locking the glove box with your key will also help to
secure your vehicle.
PASS-Key®III
Your PASS-Key®III system operates on a radio
frequency subject to Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) Rules and with Industry Canada.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
1. This device may not cause harmful interference.
2. This device must accept any interference received,
including interference that may cause undesired
operation.

PASS-Key
®III uses a radio frequency transponder in
the key that matches a decoder in your vehicle.

A (OFF):This is the only position in which you can
insert or remove the key. This position locks the ignition
and transaxle. It is a theft-deterrent feature.
B (ACCESSORY):This position allows you to use
things like the radio and the windshield wipers when the
engine is off. This position will allow you to turn off
the engine. If your vehicle has a column shifter, you will
still be able to move the shift lever. Use ACCESSORY
if you must have your vehicle in motion while the engine
is off, for example, if your vehicle is being pushed
or towed.
C (ON):This position is for driving. If your vehicle
has a console shifter and you turn off the engine,
the transaxle will lock. If you need to shift the transaxle
out of PARK (P), the ignition key has to be in ON.
D (START):This position starts the engine.Retained Accessory Power (RAP)
The following accessories on your vehicle may be used
for up to 10 minutes after the ignition key is turned
from ON to OFF:
Cellular Telephone
Radio
Power Windows
Audio Steering Wheel Controls
Sunroof
Power to these accessories stops after 10 minutes or
if a door is opened. If you want power for another
10 minutes, close all the doors and turn the ignition key
to ON and then back to OFF. If the cellular phone is
being used while retained accessory power is active,
the timer is suspended to avoid interruption of the call.
The timer resets to 10 minutes at the end of the call.

OnStar®Steering Wheel Controls
A steering wheel control can be used to interact with the
OnStar®personal calling feature.
Press the top part of the
control with this symbol on
the steering wheel, to
connect to OnStar
®. Place
a phone call after the
ready prompt is heard.
If the vehicle has the Navigation System, a ready
prompt will come from that system rst. Say the word
“phone” to make a call.
When calling into voice mail systems, or to dial directory
numbers, press the control, say the number(s), then
say “dial.”
To end a call, press the bottom part of the control
labeled END.

Storage Areas
Glove Box
To open the glove box, lift up on the lever. The glove
box has a light inside.
Instrument Panel Storage Area
This storage compartment is located in the center of the
instrument panel below the radio. Pull the door out to
reveal the accessory power outlet and storage
compartment. To clean the storage compartment,
lift out while pulling on the sides.
Front Storage Area
If your vehicle is equipped with the front storage area,
it comes with a coinholder, a storage compartment,
an optional cellular telephone and a dual cupholder.
Full Floor Console Storage Area
If your vehicle is equipped with the full oor console,
it has an upper and lower storage area. The upper
storage area is available for the optional cellular
telephone. The lower storage area has two removable
bins that can hold tapes and/or CDs.
To open the console, pull up on either lever to open the
upper or lower storage area.
There is also a removable coinholder that attaches to
the side of one of the bins. A dual cupholder is located in
front of the console. Open and close by pressing on
the cupholder.
Center Console Storage Area
If your vehicle is equipped with the center console,
it comes with a storage tray, a storage compartment for
CDs or tapes, a dual cupholder that unfolds, a
coinholder, an optional phone and an armrest.
The cupholder can be opened by pressing on the
surface panel located in front of the armrest and
unfolding it. Close the lid to secure it.

Center Flex Storage Unit
Your vehicle may be equipped with a center ex storage
unit that includes a front center seat with a lap belt
and an underseat storage compartment. The center
seatback can also be used as a fold down armrest with
extra space for CDs or tapes. An optional cellular
telephone may be located in the underseat storage
compartment. Cupholders are also located at the front
edge of the storage unit and can be accessed by folding
the compartment forward.When not being used, the center seat lap belt can be
stored in the underseat storage compartment as shown.

It may also ash red if the ultrasonic sensors are not
kept clean. So be sure to keep your rear bumper free of
mud, dirt, snow, ice and slush or materials such as
paint or the system may not work properly. If after
cleaning the rear bumper and driving forward at least
15 mph (25 km/h), the display continues to ash red,
see your dealer. For cleaning instructions, seeWashing
Your Vehicle on page 5-91.
It may also ash red if your vehicle is moving in
REVERSE (R) at a speed greater than 3 mph (5 km/h).
Other conditions that may affect system performance
include things like the vibrations from a jackhammer or
the compression of air brakes on a very large truck.
As always, drivers should use care when backing up a
vehicle. Always look behind you, being sure to check
for other vehicles, obstructions and blind spots.
Accessory Power Outlets
Your vehicle is equipped with accessory power outlets.
The outlets can be used to plug in electrical equipment
such as a cellular telephone, CB radio, etc.
If you have a vehicle with a center storage compartment
located on the instrument panel, you may have an
accessory power outlet in the storage drawer. There is
also an outlet on the front passenger’s seat near
the umbrella tray.There are two accessory power outlets in the rear seat
area located on the door armrests next to the ashtrays.
Your vehicle may have a small cap that must be
removed to access the accessory power outlet. If it
does, when not using the outlet be sure to cover it with
the protective cap.
The accessory power outlet will only operate when the
ignition is in ACCESSORY or ON and for 10 minutes
after turning the ignition OFF. If you would like the
accessory power outlet to operate regardless of ignition
position, and for extended periods of time, see your
dealer for more information.
Notice:Leaving electrical equipment on for
extended periods will drain the battery. Always turn
off electrical equipment when not in use and do
not plug in equipment that exceeds the maximum
amperage rating.
Certain accessory power plugs may not be compatible
to the accessory power outlet and could result in
blown vehicle or adapter fuses. If you experience a
problem see your dealer for additional information on the
accessory power outlets.
Notice:Adding any electrical equipment to your
vehicle may damage it or keep other components
from working as they should. The repairs would not
be covered by your warranty. Do not use equipment
exceeding maximum amperage rating. Check
with your dealer before adding electrical equipment.

Driver Information Center (DIC)
This display gives you the status of many of your
vehicle’s systems. The DIC is also used to display driver
personalization features and warning/status messages.
All messages will appear in the DIC display, located
at the bottom of the instrument panel cluster.
DIC Controls and Displays
The Driver Information Center (DIC) buttons are located
to the right of the steering wheel on the instrument
panel, near the air outlets.
«INFOª(Information):Pressing this button up or
down will display the MILES RANGE (Analog Cluster),
MPG AVG, MPG INST, GAL FUEL USED, AVG
MPH, TIMER, BATTERY VOLTS, LF-RF-LR-RR TIRE
(if equipped), RPM TACHOMETER (Digital Cluster),
ENGINE OIL LIFE, TRANS FLUID LIFE, PHONE
(if equipped), FEATURE PROGRAMMING and Blank
Display.
INFO RESET:Pressing this button will reset the MPG
AVG, GAL FUEL USED, AVG MPH, TIMER, ENGINE
OIL LIFE and TRANS FLUID LIFE. For more information
about the trip odometer, seeTrip Odometer on
page 3-43.
MPG AVG (Average Miles Per Gallon):This
message shows the approximate fuel economy you
have averaged since the last time you reset the
value. To reset the MPG AVG (Average Fuel
Economy), press the INFO button to display the
MPG AVG, then press and hold the INFO RESET
button until 0.0 MPG AVG is displayed.
GAL (Gallons) FUEL USED:This message shows
how much fuel has been used since the last reset.
To learn how much fuel is used from a new
starting point, press the RESET button while the
GAL FUEL USED is displayed in the DIC.

Audio System(s)
Notice:Before adding any sound equipment to
your vehicle, such as an audio system, CD player,
CB radio, mobile telephone, or two-way radio, make
sure that it can be added by checking with your
dealer. Also, check federal rules covering mobile
radio and telephone units. If sound equipment can
be added, it is very important to do it properly.
Added sound equipment may interfere with
the operation of your vehicle’s engine, radio, or
other systems, and even damage them. Your
vehicle’s systems may interfere with the operation
of sound equipment that has been added.
Notice:The chime signals related to seat belts,
parking brake, and other functions of your vehicle
operate through the GM radio/entertainment system.
If that equipment is replaced or additional
equipment is added to your vehicle, the chimes may
not work. Make sure that replacement or additional
equipment is compatible with your vehicle before
installing it.Figure out which audio system is in your vehicle, nd
out what your audio system can do, and how to operate
all of its controls.
Your vehicle has a feature called Retained Accessory
Power (RAP). With RAP, the audio system can be
played even after the ignition is turned off. SeeRetained
Accessory Power (RAP) on page 2-25for more
information.
Setting the Time for Radios without
Radio Data Systems (RDS)
Press and hold HR until the correct hour appears on the
display. Press and hold MN until the correct minute
appears on the display. Display the time with the ignition
off by pressing one of these buttons.

SCAN:Scan the stations within a PTY by performing
the following:
1. Press PTY to activate program type select mode.
PTY will appear on the display.
2. Press LEVEL to select a PTY.
3. Once the desired PTY is displayed, press SCAN,
and the radio will begin scanning the stations in
the PTY.
4. Press SCAN to stop at a station.
RDS Messages
ALERT!:Alert warns of local or continental U.S.-based
emergencies. When an alert announcement comes on
the current radio station or a related network station,
ALERT will appear on the display. You will hear the
announcement, even if the volume is low or a cassette
tape or a CD is playing, or if RDS mode is turned off.
To increase or to decrease the volume, turn the
PWR/VOL knob. TA VOLUME will appear on the
display while the volume is being adjusted.If the radio tunes to a related network station for an alert
announcement, it will return to the original station when
the announcement is nished. If a cassette tape or CD is
playing, play will stop during the announcement.
Alert announcements cannot be turned off.
ALERT! will not be affected by tests of the emergency
broadcast system. This feature is not supported by all
RDS stations.
MSG (Message):If the current station has a message,
MSG will appear on the display. Press this button, to
see the message. The message may display the artist,
song title, call in phone numbers, etc.
If the entire message does not appear on the display,
parts of the message will appear every three seconds.
To scroll through the message, press and release
the MSG button. A new group of words will appear on
the display after every press of the MSG button.
Once the complete message has been displayed,
MSG will disappear from the display until another new
MSG is received.
