Using Universal Home Remote Press and hold the appropriate button for at least
half of a second. The indicator light will come on
while the signal is being transmitted.
Reprogramming Universal Home
Remote Buttons Any of the three buttons can be reprogrammed by
repeating the instructions.
Erasing Universal Home Remote
Buttons The programmed buttons should be erased when the
vehicle is sold or the lease ends. To erase either Rolling Code or Fixed Code on the
Universal Home Remote device:
1. Press and hold the two outside buttons at the
same time for approximately 20 seconds, until
the indicator lights, located directly above the
buttons, begin to blink rapidly.
2. Once the indicator lights begin to blink, release both
buttons. The codes from all buttons will be erased.

Luggage Carrier For vehicles with a luggage carrier, items can be loaded
on top of the vehicle.
The luggage carrier has siderails attached to the roof and
crossrails, if equipped, which can be moved back and
forth to help secure cargo. To adjust them, turn the knob
located at each end of the crossrail counterclockwise until
the crossrail can move freely. To secure the crossrail,
turn the knob located at each end of the crossrail
clockwise until tightened. Tie the load to the siderails or
siderail supports.
Notice: Loading cargo on the luggage carrier that
weighs more than 200 lbs (91 kg) or hangs over the
rear or sides of the vehicle can damage the vehicle.
Load cargo so that it rests as far forward as possible
and against the side rails, making sure to fasten it
securely.
Do not exceed the maximum vehicle capacity when
loading the vehicle. For more information on vehicle
capacity and loading, see Loading the Vehicle on
page 5-33 .
To prevent damage or loss of cargo, check now and
then to make sure the luggage and cargo are still
securely fastened. Be sure the cargo is properly loaded.
If small heavy objects are placed on the roof, place
the load in the area over the rear wheels (behind the
rear side door on extended models). If needed, cut a
piece of 3/8 inch plywood to t inside the crossrails
and siderails to spread the load. If plywood is used,
tie it to the siderail supports.
Tie the load to the crossrails or the siderail supports.
Use the crossrails only to keep the load from sliding.
To move the crossrails, pull out on the latch release
handle at each end. Slide the crossrail to the desired
position balancing the force side to side. Push the
release handle back into the latched position and
slide the crossrail back and forth slightly to be sure
the latch snaps securely into place.
If needed to carry long items, move the crossrails as
far apart as they will go. Tie the load to the crossrails
and the siderails or siderail supports. Also tie the
load to the bumpers. Do not tie the load so tightly
that the crossrails or siderails are damaged.
After moving a crossrail, be sure it is securely locked
into the siderail.
A Center High-Mounted Stoplamp (CHMSL) is located
above the glass or above the rear load doors.
If items are loaded on the roof of the vehicle, care
should be taken not to block or damage the CHMSL unit.

Hazard Warning Flashers | (Hazard Warning Flasher): Press this button
located on top of the steering column, to make the front
and rear turn signal lamps ash on and off. This warns
others that you are having trouble. Press again to turn
the ashers off.
When the hazard warning ashers are on, the vehicle’s
turn signals will not work.
Horn To sound the horn, press the center pad on the steering
wheel.
Tilt Wheel The power tilt wheel
control is located on the
left side of the steering
column. Push the control up or down to tilt the steering wheel up
or down.
To set the memory position, see Memory Features on
page 1-7 .
Heated Steering Wheel For vehicles with a heated steering wheel, the button for
this feature is located on the steering wheel.
( : Press to turn the heated steering wheel on or off.
A light on the button displays when the feature is
turned on.
The steering wheel takes about three minutes to start
heating.

Turn and Lane-Change Signals An arrow on the instrument
panel cluster ashes in the
direction of the turn or
lane change.
Move the lever all the way up or down to signal a turn.
Raise or lower the lever for less than one second
until the arrow starts to ash to signal a lane change.
This causes the turn signals to automatically ash three
times. It will ash six times if tow-haul mode is active.
Holding the turn signal lever for more than one second
will cause the turn signals to ash until you release
the lever.
The lever returns to its starting position whenever it is
released.
If after signaling a turn or a lane change the arrows
ash rapidly or do not come on, a signal bulb could be
burned out.
Have the bulbs replaced. If the bulb is not burned out,
check the fuse. See Fuses and Circuit Breakers on
page 6-106 . Turn Signal On Chime If the turn signal is left on for more than 3/4 of a mile
(1.2 km), a chime will sound at each ash of the
turn signal and the message TURN SIGNAL ON will
also appear in the Driver Information Control (DIC).
To turn the chime and message off, move the turn
signal lever to the off position.
Headlamp High/Low-Beam Changer
53 (Headlamp High/Low Beam Changer):
To change the headlamps from low to high beam,
push the lever toward the instrument panel. To return
to low-beam headlamps, pull the multifunction lever
toward you. Then release it.
When the high beams
are on, this indicator light
on the instrument panel
cluster will also be on.

Flash-to-Pass This feature lets you use the high-beam headlamps to
signal a driver in front of you that you want to pass.
It works even if the headlamps are in the automatic
position.
To use it, pull the turn signal lever toward you, then
release it.
If the headlamps are in the automatic position or on low
beam, the high-beam headlamps will turn on. They will
stay on as long as you hold the lever toward you. The
high-beam indicator on the instrument panel cluster will
come on. Release the lever to return to normal operation.
For vehicles with High Intensity Discharge (HID)
headlamps, the low-beam headlamps must be on
for the ash-to-pass feature to work.
Windshield Wipers Turn the band with the wiper symbol to control the
windshield wipers.
8 (Mist): Turn to mist for a single wiping cycle.
Hold it there until the wipers start. Then let go.
The wipers stop after one wipe. Hold the band
on mist longer, for more wipe cycles. 9 (Off): Turns the wipers off.
6 (Delay): Turn the band to adjust the delay time.
The delay between wiping cycles becomes shorter as
the band is moved to the top of the lever. This can
be very useful in light rain or snow.
6 (Low Speed): For steady wiping at low speed.
? (High Speed): For high-speed wiping.
Clear ice and snow from the wiper blades before using
them. If they are frozen to the windshield, gently loosen
or thaw them. Damaged wiper blades may not clear the
windshield well, making it harder to see and drive safely.
If the blades do become damaged, install new blades or
blade inserts. For more information, see Windshield
Wiper Blade Replacement on page 6-54 .
Heavy snow or ice can overload the wiper motor.
A circuit breaker will stop the motor until it cools down.
Clear away snow or ice to prevent an overload.

The cruise control buttons are located on left side of the
steering wheel.
T (On/Off): Turns the system on or off. The indicator
light is on when cruise control is on and turns off
when cruise control is off.
+ RES (Resume/Accelerate): Press to make the
vehicle accelerate or resume to a previously set speed.
SET − (Set/Coast): Press to set the speed or make
the vehicle decelerate. [ (Cancel): Press to cancel cruise control without
erasing the set speed from memory.
Setting Cruise Control Cruise control will not work if the parking brake is set,
or if the master cylinder brake uid level is low.
The cruise control light on the instrument panel cluster
comes on after the cruise control has been set to
the desired speed.
{ CAUTION: If you leave your cruise control on when you are
not using cruise, you might hit a button and go into
cruise when you do not want to. You could be
startled and even lose control. Keep the cruise
control switch off until you want to use cruise
control.
1. Press the
I button.
2. Get up to the desired speed.
3. Press the SET − button located on the steering
wheel and release it.

Using Cruise Control on Hills How well the cruise control will work on hills depends
upon the vehicle speed, load, and the steepness of
the hills. When going up steep hills, you might have to
step on the accelerator pedal to maintain the vehicle’s
speed. When going downhill, you might have to brake
or shift to a lower gear to keep the vehicle’s speed
down. When the brakes are applied the cruise control
turns off.
Ending Cruise Control There are three ways to end cruise control:
Step lightly on the brake pedal.
Press the
[ button on the steering wheel.
Press the
I button on the steering wheel.
Erasing Speed Memory The cruise control set speed memory is erased when
the cruise control or the ignition is turned off. Exterior Lamps The exterior lamps control
is located on the instrument
panel to the left of the
steering wheel.
It controls the following systems:

Taillamps
Parking Lamps
License Plate Lamps

The exterior lamps control has four positions:
9 (Off): Turns off the automatic headlamps and
daytime running lamps (DRL). Turning the headlamp
control to the off position again will turn the automatic
headlamps or DRL back on.
For vehicles rst sold in Canada, the off position only
works when the vehicle is shifted into the P (Park)
position.
AUTO (Automatic): Automatically turns on the
headlamps at normal brightness, together with the
following:
Parking Lamps
Instrument Panel Lights
Taillamps
License Plate Lamps
; (Parking Lamps): Turns on the parking lamps
together with the following:
Instrument Panel Lights
Taillamps
License Plate Lamps 2 (Headlamps): Turns on the headlamps together
with the following lamps listed below.

When the headlamps are turned on while the vehicle is
on, the headlamps will turn off automatically 10 minutes
after the ignition is turned off. When the headlamps
are turned on while the vehicle is off, the headlamps
will stay on for 10 minutes before automatically turning
off to prevent the battery from being drained. Turn the
headlamp control to off and then back to the headlamp
on position to make the headlamps stay on for an
additional 10 minutes.
