Safety Warnings and Symbols
There are a number of safety cautions in this book. We
use a box and the word CAUTION to tell about things
that could hurt you if you were to ignore the warning.
{CAUTION:
These mean there is something that could hurt
you or other people.In the caution area, we tell you what the hazard is.
Then we tell you what to do to help avoid or reduce the
hazard. Please read these cautions. If you do not,
you or others could be hurt.
You will also nd a circle
with a slash through it in
this book. This safety
symbol means “Do Not,”
“Do Not do this” or “Do Not
let this happen.”

Vehicle Damage Warnings
Also, in this manual you will nd these notices:
Notice:These mean there is something that could
damage your vehicle.
A notice tells about something that can damage the
vehicle. Many times, this damage would not be covered
by your vehicle’s warranty, and it could be costly. But
the notice will tell what to do to help avoid the damage.
When you read other manuals, you might see
CAUTION and NOTICE warnings in different colors or in
different words.
There are also warning labels on the vehicle. They use
the same words, CAUTION or NOTICE.

The vehicle has components and labels that use
symbols instead of text. Symbols are shown along with
the text describing the operation or information
relating to a specic component, control, message,
gage, or indicator.
If you need help guring out a specic name of

Ignition Positions
Your vehicle has an
electronic keyless ignition
with a pushbutton start.
/(START):Press this button while your foot is on the
brake for an automatic transmission, or while pressing
in the clutch for a manual transmission, to start the
engine. If your vehicle is in OFF or RAP mode,
the keyless access transmitter must be inside the
vehicle to start the engine.
9ACC (OFF/ACCESSORY):When the engine is on
or the vehicle is in accessory power mode, a manual
transmission must be placed in REVERSE (R) or
an automatic transmission must be placed in PARK (P),
then press the
9ACC button to turn the engine offand place the vehicle in RAP. See “Retained Accessory
Power (RAP)” later for more information. If a manual
vehicle is not correctly placed in REVERSE (R) a
SHIFT TO REVERSE message will display on the Driver
Information Center (DIC). If an automatic vehicle is
not correctly placed in PARK (P) a SHIFT TO PARK
message will display on the Driver Information
Center (DIC).

Notice:If you do not put a manual transmission in
REVERSE (R) before exiting your vehicle, your
vehicle will not be secured, the battery will drain
and could be damaged. Always put a manual
transmission in REVERSE (R) before shutting off the
engine and exiting the vehicle.
When the engine is off, press this button to place the
vehicle in accessory mode. ACCESSORY MODE
ON will display on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
This mode allows you to use things like the radio
and the windshield wipers while the engine is off. Use
accessory mode if you must have your vehicle in motion
while the engine is off, for example, if your vehicle is
being pushed or towed.
After being in accessory mode for about 20 minutes, the
vehicle will automatically enter RAP or OFF, depending
on if the doors are opened or closed.

Stopping Your Engine
If your vehicle has an automatic transmission, move the
shift lever to PARK (P) and press the ACC button. If
the shifter is not in PARK (P), the vehicle will go
into accessory mode and the DIC will display SHIFT TO
PARK. Once the shifter is moved to PARK (P), the
vehicle will turn off.
If your vehicle has a manual transmission, move the
shift lever to REVERSE (R) and press the ACC button.
If the shifter is not in REVERSE (R), the vehicle will
go into accessory mode and the DIC will display SHIFT
TO REVERSE. Once the shifter is moved to
REVERSE (R), the vehicle will turn off.
If the keyless access transmitter is not detected while
going to off, the DIC will display NO FOB – OFF
OR RUN?.

Notice:If you do not put a manual transmission in
REVERSE (R) before exiting your vehicle, your
vehicle will not be secured, the battery will drain

transmission in REVERSE (R) before shutting off the

Racing or Other Competitive Driving
See your warranty book before using your vehicle for
racing or other competitive driving.
Notice:If you use your vehicle for racing or other
competitive driving, the engine may use more
oil than it would with normal use. Low oil levels can
damage the engine. Be sure to check the oil level
often during racing or other competitive driving and
keep the level at or near 1 quart (1 L) above the
upper mark that shows the proper operating range
on the engine oil dipstick. For information on
how to add oil, seeEngine Oil on page 5-13. After
the competitive driving, remove excess oil so
that the level on the dipstick is not above the upper
mark that shows the proper operating range.
Vehicles with the Z51 performance package have
greaseable outer ends on both of the rear toe-links.
Under normal use, lubrication should be performed as
described in the maintenance schedule. SeeScheduled
Maintenance on page 6-4andRecommended Fluids
and Lubricants on page 6-12. If you use the vehicle for
racing, lubrication should be performed at the end of
each racing day. See your dealer for lubrication
and make sure any needed repairs are made at once.

Parking Brake
The parking brake lever is located to the right of the
center console.
To set the parking brake, hold the brake pedal down.
Pull the parking brake lever up. If the ignition is on, the
brake system warning light will come on.
To release the parking brake, hold the brake pedal
down. Then push the release button in as you move the
parking brake lever all the way down.
Notice:Driving with the parking brake on can
overheat the brake system and cause premature
wear or damage to brake system parts. Verify that
the parking brake is fully released and the brake
warning light is off before driving.
Shifting Into Park (P)
(Automatic Transmission)
{CAUTION:
It can be dangerous to get out of your vehicle
if the shift lever is not fully in PARK (P) with
the parking brake rmly set. Your vehicle can
roll. If you have left the engine running, the
vehicle can move suddenly. You or others
could be injured. To be sure your vehicle will
not move, even when you are on fairly level
ground, use the steps that follow.
1. Hold the brake pedal down with your right foot and
set the parking brake.
2. Move the shift lever into PARK (P) by holding in the
button on the lever and pushing the lever all the
way toward the front of the vehicle.
3. Turn the ignition off.

Lowering the Power Convertible Top
1. Park on a level surface and set the parking brake.
The vehicle must be running or in ACC. Shift an
automatic transmission into PARK (P). Shift a
manual transmission into NEUTRAL.
2. Make sure the trunk is closed and that the trunk
partition in the rear storage area is in the fastened,
upright position, and that no objects are forward
of the divider.
3. Release the convertible top front latch, located
above the inside rearview mirror, by pulling and
turning it clockwise toward the driver’s door.
The windows will automatically lower.4. Push and hold the
bottom of the power
convertible top button,
located to the left of
the steering wheel, on
the instrument
panel.
The windows will automatically lower and the convertible
top will lower into the rear of the vehicle. A chime will
sound when the convertible top has lowered completely.
If the radio is on the sound may be muted for a brief time.
If the convertible top is operated multiple times, the
engine should be running to prevent drain on the
vehicle’s battery. Under certain conditions, the Driver
Information Center (DIC) may display a message
regarding the power convertible top. SeeDIC Warnings
and Messages on page 3-54for more information.

If the vehicle has lost power, the convertible top can still
be raised by releasing pressure on the hydraulic
pump, located under the passenger’s side of the
tonneau cover, by using the following steps.
1. Open the tonneau cover.
2. Locate the pressure release bolt on the front side of
the hydraulic pump.3. Use the wrench, attached to the inboard side of the
hydraulic pump, and turn the pressure release bolt
counterclockwise one revolution, to relieve
pressure to the hydraulic pump. This will allow you
to manually raise the convertible top.
4. Then follow the steps under raising the manual
convertible top. See “Convertible Top (Manual)”

When power is restored to the vehicle, the hydraulic bolt
must be tightened, by turning it clockwise. The power
convertible top button can then be used to lower or raise
the convertible top.
If the power convertible top is operated multiple times,
the engine should be running to prevent drain on
the vehicle’s battery. Under certain conditions, the Driver
Information Center (DIC) may display a message
regarding the power top. SeeDIC Warnings and
