S : Steering lock
To free the steering, turn the steering wheel slightly at t
he same time as
turning the key ; avoid using undue force.
A : Accessories
This enables you to use certain electrical accessories. The battery charge
warning lamp comes on.
M : Ignition
The following warning lamps should light up : STOP, coola nt level and
temperature, battery charge, handbrake, engine oil pressure, ABS, d river’s
seat belt not fastened, airbag, depollution system.
Depending on the version of your vehicle, the following wa rning lamps
should also come on temporarily :
SensoDrive gearbox, electric power steering, water-in-diesel-fuel sen sor.
If these warning lamps do not illuminate, this indicates a malfunction.
D : Starter
Release the key as soon as the engine has started. Never operat e when
the engine is running.
These warning lamps are tested with the ignition key in the ignition on position.

24 NEVER REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS
COMPLETELY STATIONARY.
NEVER MOVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT STARTING THE ENGINE.
IF THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING THERE WILL BE NO BRAKING OR STEERING ASSISTANCE
(risk of engaging the steering lock, the safety features will not be present).
When stopped, after removing the key, turn the steering wheel slightly to ensure that the steering is locked.
Steering lock
S :
After removing the key, turn the steering wheel until the st eering is locked. The key can only be removed in
position S.
A : The steering is unlocked (by turning the key to position A : move the steering wheel slightly if necessary).
M : Running position.
D : Starting position.

DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE IN A CLOSED AREA
THAT IS NOT SUFFICIENTLY VENTILATED.
Manual gearbox

Ensure that you are in
neutral.
- Press on the brake pedal and do not touch the accelerator.
- For Diesel engines: turn the key to the ignition on position. Wait
for for the preheater warning
lamp to go out, if it has come
on.
- Action the starter by turning the key until the engine starts (not
more than ten seconds).
- In temperatures lower than 0°C, declutch while the starter is
operating to ease starting. Then

- Do not touch the accelerator.
- Action the starter by turning the key until the engine starts (not
more than ten seconds). Advice
Note : if the engine fails to start at the first attempt, switch off th e ignition. Wait for ten seconds, then action the
starter again as above. Diesel version
Never stop the engine without
having allowed it to idle for a few
seconds, this is the time required
to let the turbocharger return to a
normal speed.
Flicking the accelerator at the
moment you are switching off the
ignition could seriously damage
the turbocharger.

SENSODRIVE GEARBOX
The five-speedSensoDrive gearbox offers a choice between the comfort
of automatic operation or the pleasure of manual gear changing .
Driving mode
Select the driving mode by moving the gear lever.
R everse "R". This gear will be engaged when stationary or at a speed
below approximately 6 km/h (4 mph).
Engagement of reverse gear is accompanied by a sound signal and b y the
flashing of the display "R".
N eutral "N".
Position the lever to the right in position N, to start the engine .
E asy "E": automatic gear changing.
M anual ( + / - ) "M" : manual gear changing.
Driver information
The symbol which corresponds to the selection, R, N , E or M and the
number of the gear engaged 1 to 5, are displayed on the instrument panel
screen.
Starting the vehicle
With the handbrake applied, press the brake pedal then sele ct position N
to start the engine.
With your foot on the brake, select position R, E or M.
Release the handbrake, take your foot off the brake pedal, then
accelerate.
Notes: with the engine running, in these three positions, an a udible signal
is heard when the driver's door is opened.
You can change from position E to position M and vice versa at any time.

With the ignition on, the
lighting of this warning
lamp indicates a gearbox
malfunction.

EASY mode (automatic mode)
Select position
E using the gear lever.
The gear engaged is displayed on the instrument panel screen.
The gearbox continuously selects the most suitable gear.
If you press the accelerator pedal beyond the point of resistan ce,
the SensoDrive gearbox selects the gear below to permit sharper
acceleration.
Manuel mode
Place the gear lever in position M, then change up or down through the
gears by pressing:
- rearwards, "+" to change up,
- forwards, "-" to change down.
The gear engaged is displayed on the instrument panel screen.
In the event of under-revving, to prevent any risk of stalling, the gear below
is selected automatically.
In the event of overheating of the clutch, position N is selected automatically
and the symbol N flashes accompanied by an audible signal.
Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you can change to position N to be in
neutral.
In all cases, it is essential that you apply the handbrake to immobilise the
vehicle.
It is compulsory to press the brake pedal while starting the engine.
Never select neutral N while the vehicle is moving.

Operating fault
On a slope, use the brake to immobilise the vehicle and place the gear lever in position N, E or R.
Do not keep the vehicle immobilised using the accelera tor.

ing lamp
indicates that the handbrake is still on or has not been pro perly
released.
HANDBRAKE
Applying
Pull the handbrake to immobilise your vehicle.
Releasing
Pull on the handle and press the button to release the ha ndbrake.
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM
The ABS system, associated with the braking system, increases the stabil ity and manoeuvrability of your vehicle
during braking, especially on uneven or slippery road surfaces.
The ABS function intervenes automatically if there is a risk of th e wheels locking.
The normal operation of the ABS system may show itself through slig ht vibrations of the brake pedal.
Note: if you should change any of the wheels on your vehicle (tyres a nd wheel rims), make sure that the replacements
are approved.
The lighting of this warning lamp indicates a malfunctioni ng of the ABS system which could cause a loss of
control of the vehicle on braking.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
The simultaneous lighting of these warning lamps indicates a malfunctioning of the braking system
which could cause a loss of control of the vehicle on braking.
It is essential to stop the vehicle.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
If you should need to brake in an emergency, press the brake pedal very hard without relaxing the effort.
When parking on a slope, direct your wheels towards th
e pavement and pull the handbrake.

ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and ASR (Traction control)
These systems are associated with and complementary to the ABS. If
there is a discrepancy between the trajectory being taken by the vehicle
and that desired by the driver, the ESP system acts automatically on the
brake of one or more of the vehicle’s wheels as well as on the engine, in
order to bring the vehicle back onto the desired trajectory.
The ASR system optimises traction, so as to prevent the wheels from
skidding, by acting on the brakes of the driving wheels as wel l as on the
engine. It also improves the vehicle’s steering stability under acceleration.
System operational
These warning lamps light up for a few seconds when the
ignition is switched on, to signal that the ESP/ASR system
is operational.
The system will remain operational until the ignition is swi tched off again.
Functioning
When the ASR system is active, this warning lamp flashes.
When the ESP system is active, this warning lamp flashes
accompanied by a sound signal.
Functioning anomaly
If the system starts to malfunction, this warning lamp comes on.
Contact a CITROËN dealer to have the system checked. Safety advice
The ESP system offers you
increased safety in normal driving,
but it is not there to encourage the
driver to take extra risks or to drive
at excessive speeds.
The correct functioning of
this system is dependent on
compliance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations in terms of
wheels (both rims and tyres),
braking components, electronic
components, and CITROËN fitting
and repairing procedures.
After any collision, have this system checked out by a CITROËN dealer.

THE DOORS
Locking/unlocking a door from inside the vehicle
To lock a door, press on button A.
To unlock, pull on button A.
Remarks: it is possible to lock the vehicle’s doors from the inside but an
action on the handle will not unlock the door.
Never leave your vehicle without taking your key or remote control w ith
you.
Driver’s door left open alert
If the driver’s door should be left open, the interior lamp remains on (provided it has not been deactivated).
If you decide to drive with the doors locked,
remember that this will make access by the emergency services more difficult in the event of an emergency.
Central locking/unlocking from the driver’s side
To lock/unlock the vehicle, press/pull button
