Follow the instructions given in the Maintenance Guide.
If intervening under the bonnet when the engine is hot, even when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition switched off, be aware that the cooling fan could operate at any time.
Check the engine oil level frequently between each routine service visit, as well as before starting long journeys.
Engine coolant
The coolant level should be between the MIN. and MAX. marks on the expan-sion chamber.
If the engine is hot, wait 15 minutes for it to cool down.
Quality : See the Maintenance Guide.
Never intervene on the cooling system of an engine that is hot(See "Levels").

Radiator - coolant fl uid
Checking the level and topping-up with coolant should always be done with the engine cold.
Engine hot
Wait fi fteen minutes or for the engine temperature to fall below 100°C, then slowly undo the cap to allow the pressure to drop, pro-tecting yourself with a cloth for example.
Topping up the engine oil
Take out the dipstick before fi lling. Check the level after fi lling.
The maximum mark must never be exceeded.
Do up the cap before closing the bonnet.
Quality : See the Maintenance Guide.
Note : for vehicles with a particle fi lter, the cooling fan can operate as long as ten minutes after the engine has stopped.
If intervening under the bonnet when the engine is hot, even when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition switched off, be aware that the cooling fan could operate at any time.
The coolant level should be be-tween the MIN. and MAX. marks on the expansion chamber.
Top up the level. If you have to add more than 1 litre, have the cooling system checked by a CITROËN more than 1 litre, have the cooling more than 1 litre, have the cooling

Ensure that the cap is securely on.
Note : The need to top up frequently indicates a malfunction which should be checked out as soon as possible.

Priming the circuit
In the event of running out of fuel :
- After fi lling (minimum 5 litres), action the manual priming pump , until some resistance is felt.
- Then action the starter, gently pressing the accelerator until the engine starts.
If the engine fails to start at the fi rst attempt, wait 15 seconds before trying again.
If the engine fails to start after a few attempts, repeat the procedure from the beginning. When the engine is idli ng, accelerate gently to complete the purge of the circuit.

Emergency starting with a slave battery
A vehicle with a discharged battery can be started with either a slave battery or the battery of another vehicle.
A Discharged battery on broken-down vehicle (under the bonnet).
B Slave battery.
C Earth point on broken-down vehicle.Check that the emergency battery is correctly charged up (12 volts). If you are using the battery on another vehicle, stop the engine of the assisting vehicle. The two vehicles must not come into direct contact with each other.
Never apply a fl ame or create sparks close to the battery (explo-sive gas).
The battery contains diluted sulphuric acid which is highly corrosive.
If ever you are handling the battery, protect your eyes and fa ce.
In the event of any contact with the skin, rinse immediately with copious amounts of fresh water.
For any battery replacement, contact a ForCITROËN dealer.
If the vehicle is not being used for over a month, you are ad vised to disconnect the battery.
Advice
Deactivate the alarm before dis-connecting the battery.
Do not touch the cable clamps during the procedure.
Do not lean over the batteries.
Disconnect the cables in the re-verse order to connection, ensuring that they do not touch each other.
Connect the cables in the order indicated in the diagram. Make sure that the clamps are properl y secured orderorder(risk of sparks).
Start the engine of the assisting vehicle. Let the engine run for about a minute at a slightly accelerated speed.
Start the engine of the assisted vehicle.
Note : For any operation necessitating a disconnection of the batte ry, you should wait three minutes after switch-ing off the ignition, without taking any action which would prevent the vehicle’s electrical circuit from going to sleep (such as operating the doors and tailgate or the remote contro l, etc.).
After a disconnection and reconnection of the battery, when you switch on the ignition, wait for approximately one minute before operating the starter motor in order to allow the electronic systems to reinitialise. Following a pro-longed disconnection of the battery, it may be necessary to rei nitialise the parameters of the multifunction display (date, time, language, units of distance and of temperature).

Fuseboxes
There are two fuseboxes under the dashboard, one fusebox in the engine compartment and another on the battery.
Fuses under the dashboard
To access the fuses under the dashboard, undo the screw by a quarter turn and pivot the hous-ing.
Changing a fuse
Before replacing a fuse, it is es-sential to fi nd the cause of the in-cident and to have it rectifi ed. The fuse identifi cation numbers are in-dicated inside the fusebox.
Replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating (the same colour)
Use the special tool A that is pro-vided in the fuse housing fl ap, which also contains spare fuses.
