Manual gearbox
1.Check that you are in neutral.
2. Do not touch the accelerator.
3. For Diesel engines : turn the key as far as position M. Wait for the preheater warning lamp to go off if this has come on.
4. Action the starter by turning the key until the engine starts (not more than ten seconds).
5. In ambient temperatures low-er than 0°C, declutch during the action on the starter to fa-cilitate starting. Then remove your foot slowly from the clutch pedal.
NEVER RUN THE ENGINE IN A SPACE THAT IS ENCLOSED OR INSUFFICIENTLY VENTILATED.
Electronic Gearbox System (6-speed)
1.Check that you are in position N.
2.Press fi rmly on the brake pedal.
3. Do not touch the accelerator. 4.For Diesel engines : turn the key as far as position M. Wait for the preheater warning lamp to go off if this has come on.
5. Action the starter by turning the key until the engine starts (not more than ten seconds).
Note : After the vehicle has had a prolonged stop or if the brake ped-al has been applied several times when stationary, it is necessary to press the brake pedal fully down in order to authorise starting of the engine.
Advice
Vehicles equipped with a turbocharger
Never stop the engine without having allowed it to run for a few seconds at idle, this being the time required for t he turbocharger to return to a normal speed.
"Flicking the accelerator" at the moment of switching off the i gnition could cause serious damage.
Note : If the engine fails to start at the fi rst attempt, switch off the ignition. Wait ten seconds, then action the starte r again as indicated above.
Automatic gearbox
1. Check that you are in position P or N.
2. Do not touch the accelerator.
3. For Dieselengines: turn the key as far as position M. Wait for the preheater warning lamp to go off if this has come on.
4. Action the starter by turning the key until the engine starts (not more than ten seconds).
Note : To exit from position P, press on the brake pedal before moving the selector.

5 speed gearbox
Reverse gear
Never engage reverse gear before the vehicle has come to a complete halt.
The movement should be made slowly in order to prevent snatching noises.
Note : With a manual gearbox :
- the cruise control is active from 4th gear above speeds of 40 km/h (25 mph),
- the speed limiter is active above speeds of 30 km/h (19 mph).

The (6-speed) electronic gearbox offers you a choic
e of two driving modes :
- automatic mode,
- manual mode, with levers under the steering wheel 1.
Mode selection :
- automatic mode : selector 2 in position A.
- manual mode : selector 2 in position M.
Note : in automatic mode, instant manual operation is possible any time you action one of the levers 1.
Selection position
-The selector position is displayed in the instrument panel, on the left on multifunction screens A and C and on the right on multifunction screen DT.
-A background-litposition grille associated with the selector allows you to view the position selected.
When the ignition is on, lighting of the SERVICE wa rning lamp, accompanied by a sound signal and the message “Gearbox faulty” indicates a malfunctio n.
Urgently contact a CITROËN dealer.

Starting the engine
1. To start the engine, the selec-tor has to be in position N.
2.Press fi rmly on the brake pedal.
3. Action the starter.
4. When the engine is running, place the selector on R, A or M as desired.
5. Check, in the instrument pan-el, the position engaged.
6. Release the brake pedal and accelerate.
Note : If the selector is not in po-sition N, and/or if the brake pedal is not pressed, the correspond-ing warning lamp(s) display and a message informs you that at least one of these two conditions is not met.
In this case, the engine will not start, recommence the above pro-cedure.
Using the 6-speed electronic gearbox
Reverse gear
Engaging reverse gear
To engage reverse gear, move the selector to R.
Only attempt to change to reverse gear when the vehicle is stationary.
Automatic mode
Changing to automatic mode
To change to automatic mode, move the selector to A.
Manual mode
Changing to manual mode
Manual mode activates when you move the selector to M.- Pull the lever “+” to change up a gear.- Pull the lever “-” to change down a gear.
When the engine is running, be-fore accelerating to move the ve-hicle, make sure that the position engaged on the selector grille or in the instrument panel is either : R, A or AM.Do not leave the vehicle with the engine running in R, A or AM.
If the vehicle is moving rapidly, if an inadvertent attempt to engage reverse gear is made, the warning lamp N will fl ash and your vehicle will go automatically into neutral. To re-engage a gear, you have only to reposition the selector on A, Mor R.

Neutral
Changing to neutral
To change to neutral, move the selector to N. If the vehicle is mov-ing, do not select this position even momentarily.

To select automatic driving mode :
- Move the selector to position A. The warning lamp A lights up in the instrument panel to confi rm the selection.
The gearbox then functions in au-tomatic mode, without any inter-vention on your part.
It constantly selects the gear that is best suited to the following pa-rameters :
- driving style,
- road profi le,
- optimum fuel consumption.
Temporary manual operation when in automatic mode
- By pulling either of the levers “+” or “-”, you can exercise tempo-rary control over the changing of gears. The request to change gear will be taken into account. You will still be in automatic mode. The warning lamp A re-mains lit up in the instrument panel.
- This function enables you to an-ticipate certain situations such as the approach of a bend or the need to overtake another vehi-cle.

Cancellation of automatic mode
The change from position A (driv-ing in automatic mode) to position M (driving in manual mode) or vice versa can be made at any time. The warning lamp A disappears in the instrument panel.

To select manual mode :
- Move the selector to po-sition M.
Controls under the steering wheel
The levers under the steering wheel give you access to all the six forward gears.
To change gear :
- Pull the lever “+” to change up a gear.
- Pull the lever “-” to change down a gear.
Note : The levers do not permit you to select neutral or reverse gear, or to exit reverse gear.
In situations of high engine speeds (heavy acceleration), a change up will not occur unless the driver ac-tions this on the lever controls.

Observations :
- If the vehicle stops or reduces speed (for example when ap-proaching a stop sign), the gear-box changes down automatically to fi rst gear.
- In manual mode, it is not neces-sary to release the accelerator completely during gear changes.
- A request to change gear is ac-cepted only if the engine speed permits it.
- For safety reasons, depending on the engine speed, a change down may be performed auto-matically.

Do not use the accelerator to hold your vehicle on a gradient. Use either the brake pedal or the electric parking brake.
Before taking any action in the engine compartment, check that the selector is in neutral N.

Acceleration
For optimum acceleration (e.g. to overtake another vehicle), you o nly have to apply the accelerator pedal beyond the end-of-travel switch, by pressing down fi rmly.
Vehicle stationary with the engine running
In the event of a prolonged stop with the engine running, the gearbox changes automatically to neutral N.
Stopping the engine
Before stopping the engine, you can choose :
- to leave the vehicle in neutral : move the selector to posi tion N.
- to leave the vehicle with a gear engaged (R, A or M) : Place the selector in the chosen position prior to stopping the engine. In this case, the vehicle cannot be moved.
In all cases, it is essential to apply the parking brake. Check that the parking brake warning lamp is lit up in the instrument panel.
