Capacity: See
“Capacities”
When looking under the bonnet, with the engine hot,
even if stopped and the ignition switched off, the cooling fan may operate at any time.
B - Radiator - coolant
Checking the level and topping up must always be done
with the engine cold.
Engine hot:
Remove the protection cover. Wait ifteen minutes or
until the temperature is well below 100° C, then carefull
y
unscrew the cap to allow the pressure to drop, protecting
yourself with a cloth, for example.
Topping up the cooling system
The coolant level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on t he
header tank.
Top up the level. If you have to add more than 1 litre, h ave the cooling
system checked by a CITROËN dealer.
Fully secure the cap.
Note: The need to top up the coolant frequently is an indicat ion of a
malfunction, which you should have checked at the earliest op portunity.
Note: the cooling fan may operate for some ten minutes after the e ngine
has stopped.
C - Power steering oil
For topping up, it is necessary to go to a CITROËN dealer. L E V E L S

Adding engine oil
Remove the dipstick before top-
ping up.
Check the level after illing.
It should never exceed the maxi-
mum mark.
Screw on the cap before closing
the bonnet.
Quality:
Consult the Maintenance
Guide.
Brake luid
The synthetic luid not only gives protection against corrosion bu t also
ensures correct functioning of the braking system in all environment al
conditions, therefore you should only use the synthetic product
recommended by the CITROËN network. (this luid must be replaced
every two years).
These important requirements are detailed in your vehicle’s Maint enance
Guide.
Quality: Consult the Maintenance Guide.
Brake luid reservoir
Check and top up at regular
intervals.
The luid level must be situated
within the MAX and MIN marks
visible on the reservoir.
If the warning lamp comes on
while you are driving, stop imme-
diately and contact a CITROËN
dealer.
When working under the bonnet, the cooling fan could
operate if the power unit is hot (even when switched off). L E V E L S

HDi engines are of a highly technical nature.
All maintenance and repairs require speciic qualiica tions
which only your CITROËN Dealer can guarantee.
Draining water from the fuel ilter
To be bled on a regular basis (at every oil change).
To evacuate the water, slacken the bleed screw or the water i
n diesel fuel
sensor, which is located at the base of the ilter, until w ater ceases to low
out.
Then retighten the bleed screw or the water in diesel fuel sensor.

Access to the battery
The battery is located under the loor on the front right
hand side (see “Battery compartment fuses”).
Emergency starting with a slave battery
A vehicle with a discharged battery can be started
with either a slave battery or the battery of another
vehicle.
A Discharged battery
B Slave battery
C Earth point on broken down vehicle.
It is essential to proceed strictly following the sequence
indicated.
Check that the emergency battery is correctly charged
up (12 volts). If you are using the battery on another
vehicle, stop the engine of the assisting vehicle. The
two vehicles must not come into direct contact with
each other.
Connect the cables in the order indicated in the
diagram. Make sure that the clamps are properly
secured (risk of sparks).
Start the engine of the assisting vehicle. Let the engine
run for about a minute at a slightly accelerated speed.
Never apply a lame or create sparks close
to the battery (explosive gas). The battery contains diluted sulphuric acid which is highly corrosive.
If ever you are handling the battery, protect your eyes a nd face.
In the event of any contact with the skin, rinse
immediately with copious amounts of fresh water.
Advice
Replace it with a battery of the
same type (voltage, amp rating).
Do not touch the cable clamps
during the procedure.
Do not lean over the batteries.
Disconnect the cables in the
reverse order to connection,
ensuring that they do not touch
each other. Start the engine of the assisted vehicle.
Note:
For any repair necessitating a disconnection
of the battery, it is essential to wait three minutes
after switching off the ignition and to avoid any action
that could prevent the vehicle’s electrical circuit from
changing to standby mode (such as opening and
closing doors, using the remote control etc.).
