Emergency braking assistance
System which, in an emergency, enables you to   obtain   the   optimum   braking   pressure   more
q

uickly,   thus   reducing   the   stopping   distance.
Activation
It is triggered by the speed at which the brake pedal   is   pressed.
The
effect   of   this   is   a   reduction   in   the
r

esistance   of   the   pedal   and   an   increase   in
b

raking
 e
fficiency.
When
  braking   in   an   emergency,   press
f

Trajectory control systems
Anti-slip regulation (ASR)
and dynamic stability
control (
d
SC)
The anti-slip regulation (also known as traction control)   optimises   traction   to   prevent   skidding
o

f   the   wheels,   by   acting   on   the   brakes   of   the
d

riving   wheels   and   on   the   engine.
The electronic stability control acts on the
brake
of   one   or   more   wheels   and   on   the   engine

Active City Brake
Active City Brake is a driving assistance system   that   aims   to   avoid   a   frontal   collision
o

r   reduce   the   speed   of   an   impact   if   the   driver
d

oes   not   react   sufficiently   (inadequate   brake
a

pplication). This
  system   is   designed   to   improve
d

riving   safety.
It
  remains   the   driver's   responsibility   to
c

ontinuously   monitor   the   state   of   the
t

raffic   and   to   assess   the   distances   and
r

elative   speeds   of   other   vehicles.
Active
  City   Brake   can   in   no
c

ircumstances   replace   the   need   for
v

igilance   on   the   part   of   the   driver.
Never
look   at   the   laser   sensor   through
an o

ptical
 in
strument
 (
magnifying
 g
lass,
 m

icroscope...)   at   a   distance   of   less   than
1

0   centimetres:   risk   of   eye   injury.Automatic
  braking   occurs   later   than   if
d

one   by   the   driver,   so   as   to   intervene
o

nly   when   there   is   a   high   risk   of
c

ollision.Principle
Using a laser sensor located at the top of the windscreen,   this   system   detects   a   vehicle
r

unning   in   the   same   direction   or   stationary
a

head   of   your   vehicle.
When
  necessary,   the   vehicle's   braking   system
i

s   operated   automatically   to   avoid   a   collision
w

ith   the   vehicle   ahead.
Conditions for activation
Active City Brake only operates if the following conditions   are   met:

i
gnition   on,

t
he   vehicle   is   in   a   for ward   gear,

s
peed   is   between   about   3   and   18   mph
(5
  and   30   km/h),

t
he   braking   assistance   systems   (ABS,
E

BFD,   emergency   braking   assistance)   are
n

ot faulty,

t
he   trajectory   control   systems   (ASR,   DSC)
a

re   not   deactivated   or   faulty,

t
he   vehicle   is   not   in   a   tight   corner,

t
he   system   has   not   been   triggered   during
t

he   previous   10   seconds.
Safety

Operation
When your vehicle is too close to or
approaches  the   vehicle   ahead   too   quickly   the
s

ystem   automatically   applies   the   brakes   to
a

void   a   collision.
The
collision   can   be   avoided   automatically   if   the
 d

ifference   in   speed   between   your   vehicle   and   the
 v

ehicle   ahead   does   not   exceed   9   mph   (15   km/h).
Above
this   threshold,   the   system   will   do   what
 i

s   possible   to   avoid   or   reduce   the   accident   by
 l

owering   the   speed   of   impact.
The
automatic   braking   may   bring   the   vehicle   to
a

complete   stop   if   the   situation   requires   it.
In
this   case,   the   vehicle   is   held   stationary
t

emporarily   (for   about   1.5   seconds)   to   allow
t

he   driver   to   take   back   control   by   pressing   the
b

rake
 ped
al.
You
are   then   alerted   by   the   display   of   a
m

essage.
The
brake   lamps   on   your   vehicle   come   on   to
w

arn   other   road   users.
After
  an   impact,   the   system   is
a

utomatically   put   out   of   service:   it   no
lon

ger
 ope
rates.
You
must   go   to   a   CITROËN   dealer   or   a
q

ualified   workshop   to   have   the   system
m

ade   operational   again.
During
  automatic   braking,   the   driver
c

an   always   obtain   a   higher   rate   of
d

eceleration   than   that   controlled   by   the
s

ystem,   by   pressing   firmly   on   the   brake
ped

al.
The
triggering   of   the   system   may   cause
t

he   engine   to   stall,   unless   the   driver
d

epresses   the   clutch   pedal   quickly
e

nough   during   automatic   braking.
deactivation
The system is deactivated in the vehicle configuration   menu,   accessible   with   the   ignition   on.
Its
state   is   memorised   when   the   ignition   is
 s

witched off.
When the system is deactivated, a m essage   is   displayed   every   time   the
i

gnition   is   switched   on,   to   warn   you.

Seat belts
Front seat belts
The front seat belts are fitted with a pretensioning   and   force   limiting   system.
This

Advice
In order to be effective, a seat belt must:
-  b e   tightened   as   close   to   the   body   as
p

ossible,
-

b
e   pulled   in   front   of   you   with   a   smooth
m

ovement,   checking   that   it   does   not
t

wist,
-

b
e   used   to   restrain   only   one   person,
-

n
ot   bear   any   trace   of   cuts   or   fraying,
-

n
ot   be   converted   or   modified   to   avoid

After
folding   or   moving   a   seat   or   rear   bench
s

children
Use a suitable child seat if the passenger is less   than   12   years   old   or   shorter   than   one
a

nd   a   half   metres.
Never
use   the   same   seat   belt   to   secure
m

ore   than   one   person.
Never
allow   a   child   to   travel   on   your   lap.
For
more   information   on   child   seats,   refer   to
t

he   corresponding   section.
In the event of an impact
depending on the nature and
seriousness of the impact , the
pretensioning
  device   may   be   deployed
b

efore   and   independently   of   the   airbags.
D

eployment   of   the   pretensioners   is

If
a   collision   occurs,   the   electronic   detectors
r

-

i

-

i

  equipment   will   only   deploy   once.
I

f   a   second   impact   occurs   (during   the
s

a

irbag   will   not   be   deployed   again.
Impact detection zones
A. Front  impact   zone.
B. S ide   impact   zone.
Deployment
of   one   or   more   of   the
a

irbags   is   accompanied   by   a   slight
e

mission   of   smoke   and   a   noise,   due
t

o the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge
  incorporated   in   the   system.
This
smoke   is   not   harmful,   but   sensitive
i

ndividuals   may   experience   slight
ir

The
noise   of   detonation   related   to   the
d

eployment   of   one   or   more   airbags
m

ay   result   in   a   slight   loss   of   hearing   for
a

  short   time.
The airbags do not operate when the
ignition is switched off.
