IDENTIFYING THE CLIMATE

SWITCHING CLIMATE
CONTROL ON AND OFF
Press the button.
SWITCHING RECIRCULATED
AIR ON AND OFF
Press the button to recirculateair currently in the passengercompartment.
Note:Recirculated air may turn offautomatically, or prevent you from switchingon in all air flow modes except MAX A/C toreduce the risk of fogging. Recirculation mayalso turn on and off automatically in variousair distribution control combinations toimprove heating or cooling efficiency.
SWITCHING AIR
CONDITIONING ON AND OFF
Press the button.
Note:Under certain conditions, the airconditioning compressor could continue tooperate after you switch air conditioning off.
Note:To keep the system and itscomponents fully functional, switch airconditioning on and let your vehicle idle atleast once per month for a minimum of twominutes.
SWITCHING MAXIMUM
DEFROST ON AND OFF
Turn the temperature controlclockwise past the highestsetting to maximize defrosting.
Note:The temperature control springs backto the highest setting.
Air flows through the windshield air vents,and the blower motor adjusts to thehighest speed.
Note:To prevent window fogging, youcannot select recirculated air whenmaximum defrost is on.
Note:The heated rear window also turnson when you select maximum defrost.
SWITCHING MAXIMUM
COOLING ON AND OFF
Turn the temperature controlcounterclockwise past thelowest setting to maximizecooling.
Note:The temperature control springs backto the lowest setting.
Note:When you switch maximum coolingoff, air conditioning remains on.

When you switch the heated rearwindow on, the heated wiperpark also turns on.
SWITCHING THE HEATED
REAR WINDOW ON AND OFF
Press the button to clear the rearwindow of thin ice and fog. Theheated rear window turns offafter a short period of time.
Note:Do not use harsh chemicals, razorblades or other sharp objects to clean orremove decals from the inside of the heatedrear window as this could cause damage tothe heated rear window grid lines notcovered by the vehicle Warranty.
SETTING THE BLOWER MOTOR
SPEED
Turn the control.
Note:Lights on the control illuminate toindicate the blower motor speed.
Note: When you switch the blower motoroff, air conditioning turns off and thewindows could fog up.
SETTING THE TEMPERATURE
Turn the temperature controlcounterclockwise for cooler temperaturesettings.
Turn the temperature control clockwisefor warmer temperature settings.

CLIMATE CONTROL HINTS
General Hints
•Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to fog up.
•You may feel a small amount of airfrom the footwell air vents regardlessof the air distribution setting.
•To reduce humidity build-up inside yourvehicle, do not drive with the systemswitched off or with recirculated airalways switched on.
•Do not place objects under the frontseats as this may interfere with theairflow to the rear seats.
•Remove any snow, ice or leaves fromthe air intake area at the base of thewindshield.
•To improve the time to reach acomfortable temperature in hotweather, drive with the windows openuntil you feel cold air through the airvents.
Quickly Heating the Interior
1.Adjust the blower motor speed to thehighest speed setting.
2.Adjust the temperature control to thehighest setting.
3.Direct air to the footwell air vents.
Recommended Settings forHeating
1.Adjust the blower motor speed to thecenter setting.
2.Adjust the temperature control to themidway point of the hot settings.
3.Direct air to the footwell air vents.
Quickly Cooling the Interior
1.Press MAX A/C.
2.Drive with the windows open for a shortperiod of time.
Recommended Settings forCooling
1.Adjust the blower motor speed to thecenter setting.
2.Adjust the temperature control to themidway point of the cold settings.
3.Direct air to the instrument panel airvents.
Defogging the Side Windows inCold Weather
1.Direct air to the instrument panel andwindshield air vents.
2.Press and release A/C.
3.Adjust the temperature control to thesetting you prefer.
4.Adjust the blower motor speed to thehighest setting.
5.Direct air toward the side windows.
6.Close the instrument panel air vents.

WHAT IS THE CABIN AIR
FILTER
The cabin air filter improves the quality ofair in your vehicle by trapping dust, pollenand other particles.
LOCATING THE CABIN AIR
FILTER
You can locate the cabin air filter behindthe glove box.
REPLACING THE CABIN AIR
FILTER
Replace the filter at regular intervals. SeeScheduled Maintenance (page 411).
Note:Make sure you have a cabin air filterinstalled at all times. This prevents foreignobjects from entering the system. Runningthe system without a filter in place couldresult in degradation or damage to thesystem.
Note:Using an aftermarket cabin air filtercould reduce cabin air filtration and climatecontrol performance.

SITTING IN THE CORRECT
POSITION
WARNING: Sitting improperly, outof position or with the seatback reclinedtoo far can take weight off the seatcushion and affect the decision of thepassenger sensing system, resulting inserious injury or death in the event of acrash. Always sit upright against yourseat back, with your feet on the floor.
WARNING: Do not recline the seatbackrest too far as this can cause theoccupant to slide under the seatbelt,resulting in personal injury in the eventof a crash.
WARNING: Do not place objectshigher than the top of the seat backrest.Failure to follow this instruction couldresult in personal injury or death in theevent of a sudden stop or crash.
When you use them properly, the seat,head restraint, seatbelt and airbags willprovide optimum protection in the eventof a crash.
We recommend that you follow theseguidelines:
•Sit in an upright position with the baseof your spine as far back as possible.
•Do not recline the seat backrest so thatyour torso is more than 30 degreesfrom the upright position.
•Adjust the head restraint so that thetop of it is level with the top of yourhead and as far forward as possible.Make sure that you remaincomfortable.
•Keep sufficient distance betweenyourself and the steering wheel. Werecommend a minimum of 10 in(25 cm) between your breastbone andthe airbag cover.
•Hold the steering wheel with your armsslightly bent.
•Bend your legs slightly so that you canpress the pedals fully.
•Position the shoulder strap of theseatbelt over the center of yourshoulder and position the lap straptightly across your hips.
Make sure that your driving position iscomfortable and that you can maintain fullcontrol of your vehicle.
HEAD RESTRAINTS
WARNING: Fully adjust the headrestraint before you sit in or operate yourvehicle. This will help minimize the riskof neck injury in the event of a crash. Donot adjust the head restraint when yourvehicle is moving.

WARNING: The head restraint is asafety device. Whenever possible itshould be installed and properlyadjusted when the seat is occupied.Failure to adjust the head restraintproperly could reduce its effectivenessduring certain impacts.
WARNING: Adjust the headrestraints for all passengers before youdrive your vehicle. This will help minimizethe risk of neck injury in the event of acrash. Do not adjust the head restraintswhen your vehicle is moving.
Note:Adjust the seat backrest to an uprightdriving position before adjusting the headrestraint. Adjust the head restraint so thatthe top of it is level with the top of your headand as far forward as possible. Make surethat you remain comfortable. If you areextremely tall, adjust the head restraint toits highest position.

Installing the Head Restraint
Align the steel stems into the guide sleevesand push the head restraint down until itlocks.
Tilting the Front Seat HeadRestraint (If Equipped)
The front head restraint tilts for extracomfort. To tilt the head restraint, do thefollowing:
1.Adjust the seat backrest to an uprightdriving or riding position.
2.Pivot the head restraint forward towardyour head to the desired position.
After the head restraint reaches theforward-most tilt position, pivot it forwardagain to release it to the rearward, un-tiltedposition.
Rear Seat Outermost Head Restraint
The head restraint consists of:
An energy absorbing headrestraint.A

Guide sleeve unlock and removebutton.C
Fold button (if equipped).D
Removing the Head Restraint
1.Pull the head restraint up until itreaches its highest position.
2.Press and hold both C buttons.
3.Pull the head restraint up.
Installing the Head Restraint
Align the steel stems into the guide sleevesand push the head restraint down until itlocks.
Folding the Head Restraint
1.Press and hold button D.
2.Pull the head restraint back up to reset.

REAR SEATS
Folding the Seat Backrest
WARNING: Do not drive yourvehicle with a seat that is unlatched orin the folded position. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury or death in the event of a suddenstop or crash.
WARNING: Do not fold a seat if itis occupied. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injury.
WARNING: To prevent possibledamage to the seat or seatbelts, makesure that the seatbelts are not fastenedbefore folding the seatback.
1.Before folding the seat backrest, stowthe seatbelt in the stowage clip. Thisprevents the seatbelt from gettingcaught in the seat latch.
2.Fold the outermost head restraints andpull the center head restraint up to thefirst locked position. See HeadRestraints (page 141).
Note:If you have head restraints that donot fold, move the front seats forward toavoid interference between the front andrear seats. This allows the rear seat backrestto be properly folded.
3.Press the button at the top of the seatbackrest.
4.Push the seat backrest forward.
