ON RADIO FREQUENCIES
CAUTION
The radio frequency used byyour remote control can also beused by other short distance radiotransmissions (e.g. amateur radios,medical equipment, wirelessheadphones, remote controls andalarm systems). If the frequencies arejammed, you will not be able to useyour remote control. You can lockand unlock the doors with the key.
Note:You could unlock the doors ifyou press the buttons on the remotecontrol unintentionally.
The operating range between yourremote control and your vehiclevaries depending on theenvironment.
PROGRAMMING THE
REMOTE CONTROL
A maximum of eight remote controlscan be programmed (including theones delivered with the vehicle). Theremote controls must remain insidethe vehicle during the programmingprocedure. Fasten the front seatbelts and close all doors to ensurethat conflicting chimes do not soundduring programming.
•To programme new remotecontrols turn the ignition key toposition II four times within sixseconds.
•Turn the ignition to position 0. Atone sounds to indicate that it isnow possible to programme theremote controls for ten seconds.

•Switch the ignition back on(position II) or wait for tenseconds without programminganother remote control to end thekey programming. Only theremote controls which you havejust programmed are now able tolock and unlock the vehicle.
Reprogramming theunlocking function
You can change the unlockingfunction so that pressing the unlockbutton once deactivates the centrallocking or double locking, disarmsthe anti-theft alarm system andunlocks only the driver’s door.Pressing the unlock button twicewithin three seconds also unlocks thepassengers’ doors.
In order to re-programme thefunction, press and hold the unlockand lock buttons simultaneously forat least four seconds with the ignitionswitched off. The direction indicatorswill flash twice to indicate that theunlocking function has beensuccessfully re-programmed.
Pressing and holding both buttonssimultaneously for at least fourseconds again will change thefunction back.
CHANGING THE REMOTE
CONTROL BATTERY
If the range of the transmitter in theremote control decreases gradually,the battery (type 3V CR 2032) shouldbe replaced.

First, press the button to release thekey blade.

Remove the spare key.

•Insert a screw driver as far aspossible into the slot at the sideof the remote control and push ittowards the key blade to releasethe container from the key blade.
•Insert the screw driver into theopening at the side of thecontainer and rotate it to startopening the container.

•Insert the screw driver into theopening at the front of thecontainer and rotate it to open thecontainer completely. Be carefulnot to lose the key ring.

•Carefully separate the transmitterunit from the key using ascrewdriver at the recess on theback.
•Open the transmitter unit byseparating the retaining clips onthe sides with the screwdriver.

•Insert the screw driver into theopening marked with an arrowand carefully prise out the battery.Take care not to touch the batterycontacts or the printed circuitboard.
•Insert a new battery. The pluscontact of the battery (markedwith a +) must face upwards.

Snap the two halves of the housingtogether.
Remote control type 1
Assemble the key blade until it snapsonto the container.
Remote control type 2
Snap the transmitter unit back ontothe key.

Insert the spare key blade into thepassive key until it clicks into place.

Push the button on the side of theignition switch and pull out thecontainer.
Insert the spare key blade into thecontainer until it clicks. Make sure theblade is inserted the right way up.
To release the spare key blade fromthe container, press the upper partof the button.
Insert the spare key blade back intothe passive key until it clicks.
Insert the container back into theignition switch.
Disabled passive keys
Note:All your passive keys will beenabled, regardless of whether theyare located inside the vehicle or not.
If one or more passive keys are leftinside the vehicle interior when it islocked, the passive keys inside thevehicle will be disabled. In order touse these passive keys again, theyhave to be enabled.
To enable all your passive keys:
Using an enabled passive key,depress the clutch pedal (manualtransmission) or brake pedal(automatic transmission), push theignition switch in and turn it to positionII.

Insert the spare key into the ignitionswitch.
Push the ignition switch in and turn itto position II.
As soon as the ignition is turned toposition II, all your passive keys willbe enabled.
Unlocking the vehicle
Note:If the vehicle is not unlockedfor longer than five days, the key freesystem will enter an energy-savingmode. This is to prevent the batteryfrom discharging. When the vehicleis unlocked while in this mode, thereaction time of the system may bea little longer than normal. Unlockingthe vehicle once will deactivate theenergy-saving mode.
Pull any door handle to unlock all thedoors and the tailgate and disarm thealarm.
Note:A valid passive key must belocated within the detection range ofthat door.
One long flash of the directionindicators confirms that all the doors,the tailgate and the fuel filler flap havebeen unlocked and that the alarmhas been disarmed.

WARNING
The vehicle does not lock itselfautomatically. If no lockingbutton is pressed, the vehicle willremain unlocked.
Note:Before leaving the vehicle,ensure that the ignition switch ispulled out. See Ignition switch(page 141).
Note:A valid passive key must belocated within the detection range ofthe respective door. If locking fromthe tailgate, the passive key must bewithin the tailgate detection range.
Note:Once activated, the vehiclewill remain locked for approximatelythree seconds, even if the passivekey is within the detection rangeduring this delay period. This is toallow you to pull a door handle andcheck if the vehicle is locked. Whenthe delay period is over, the doorscan be opened again, provided thepassive key is within the respectivedetection range. The delay periodcan be set to zero by an expert.
Note:If a passive key is left insidethe vehicle PASSIVE KEY LEFTINSIDE appears in the informationdisplay. Remove the passive keyfrom the vehicle interior. All passivekeys left inside the vehicle when it islocked will be disabled.
To activate central locking and armthe alarm:
•Press the locking button on oneof the front doors or the tailgateonce.
•On vehicles without doublelocking, the direction indicatorswill flash twice as confirmation.
To activate double locking, to armthe alarm and the interior sensors:
•Press the locking button on oneof the front doors or the tailgatetwice within three seconds.
•The direction indicators will flashtwice as confirmation.
Deactivating the key freefunction
The key free function can bedeactivated using the informationdisplay. See Information displays(page 96).
Once it is deactivated:
•the vehicle can only be lockedand unlocked using the spare keyin the lock cylinder on the driver’sdoor or using the buttons on thepassive key.
•the engine can only be startedwith the spare key.

OPERATION
The engine immobiliser is a theftprotection system that preventssomeone from starting the enginewith an incorrectly coded key.
CODED KEYS
Note:Do not shield your keys withmetal objects. This may prevent thereceiver from recognising your keyas a valid one.
Note:Have all of your remainingkeys erased and recoded if you losea key. Ask your dealer for furtherinformation. Have replacement keysrecoded together with your existingkeys.
If you lose a key, you can obtain areplacement from your Ford Dealer.If possible, provide them with the keynumber from the tag provided withthe original keys. You can also obtainadditional keys from your FordDealer.
ARMING THE ENGINE
IMMOBILISER
The engine immobiliser is armedautomatically a short time after youhave switched the ignition off.
The indicator in the instrument clusterwill flash to confirm that the systemis operating.
DISARMING THE ENGINE
IMMOBILISER
The engine immobiliser is disarmedautomatically when you switch theignition on with a correctly coded key.
The indicator in the instrument clusterwill come on for approximately threeseconds and then go out. If theindicator stays on for one minute orflashes for approximately one minuteand then repeatedly at irregularintervals, your key has not beenrecognised. Remove the key and tryagain.
If you attempt to start the engine withan incorrectly coded key, you willneed to wait for approximately 20seconds before attempting to startthe engine again with a correctlycoded key.
If you are unable to start the enginewith a correctly coded key, thisindicates a malfunction. Have theimmobiliser checked immediately.
